depends on team, generally if wingers are Inside forwards, then the 10 is a midfielder, deeper wingers then the 10 would be a forward

@@PlayThenSay Bad rule of thumb. Look at United, the wingers play relatively deep and look for breaks and are generally proper wingers, but Bruno cannot in any way shape or form be called an attacker.

Yes kdb be player in the league. Rodri is catching Form. And gündogan or silva are more effective than kovacic. I would even put Liverpool over chelsea. Chelsea don't have the right balance because kovacic, kante and jorghino don't compliment each other that well. But i think that chalobah and RLC could really help the miedfield when on Form. Rlc as kovacic replacement which brings goalthreat and I think in a couple of years chalobah really can play the jorghino role similiar to someone like fabhino

The problem with Gundogan is just he will do nothing defensively. When you watch him, there are times a guy will run past him with the ball and he won't even attempt to sprint. Gundo is absolutely elite on the offensive side. His intelligent, runs, the way he plays switches, his progression, it's all some of the best in the league, but he's also a passenger in a regard because he won't press and he isn't a good tackler. I think Gundogan is one of those players that absolutely thrives off of the system he is in. He wouldn't start at a team like United (not to say he isn't better than Fred, obviously he is) but in a team that doesn't have as much talent and possession, it just wouldn't work, he would get ran all over.

Something that gets overlooked very often i feel is the difference between "not being good defensively" and "not contributing defensively". It's an important distinction as one is quite clearly down to the player and the other one more often than not is down to the manager. So when it comes to someone like Luke Shaw it's reasonable to point out that he doesn't contribute that much defensively but not that he's bad defensively, since all his "misgivings" in that regard are tied to his often very advanced position on the pitch, his team not pressing effectively at all and many attacks against United coming through the centre of the pitch, all of those factors being mostly down to coaching. When he's actually defending, he's decent at it, boasting a higher tackle success rate than both Trent and Robertson across the whole of last season.

I mean a lot of midfielders are genuinely better than Jorginho, but Jorginho has the hype right now so no one who ACTUALLY watches football will agree. Jorginho fanboys cant seem to answer to what he does on a football pitch over these guys over than ''he controls the game well''. Like genuinely, tell me why Jorginho is better than Fabian Ruiz? Ruiz is better with his weak foot, controls the game almost as well, is far more athletic in terms of pace and jumping ability, does far more in build up, does far more ball progression, does far more creation, is far more of a goal threat and isn't covered by a fantastic system and Ngolo Kante. Yet Jorginho is apparently a top ten player and Ruiz is literally never talked about. Like I genuinely fail to see it, whether it's watching him or looking at the statistics, what does this guy actually do that is so above and beyond every other midfielder? Barella, Ruiz, Kimmich, Pogba, Pellegrini, Savic, Goretzka. Give me any of these guys over Jorginho. So overrated it's ridiculous. I cannot wait until him and Rudiger aren't playing in Tuchels system. Cannot wait.

Give Aston Villa some respect. There’s very little holes in that midfield compared to a side like Everton or Wolves. Deserves good in my opinion. I think their midfield is just as good if not better than Brighton’s midfield.

Definitely should be a category below good that isn't underwhelming, McGinns a one man midfield and gets in most sides midfields, Luiz is tidy for any sub top 6/8 midfield, Ramsey is serviceable at best, Buendia can play number 10 and would be one of the best number 10s in the league, and Chukwuemeka is 17 and makes playing against adults look effortless

I get that Everton don't have the greatest midfield, but Allan and the barely even mentioned Doucoure have been very good this year. Doucoure in particular has been terrific. At the start Joe mentioned that current form was the basis for the ratings and Doucoure on form has been one of the best midfielders in the league so far this season.

Not sure about the Man City midfield analysis. I think Romeo Lavia could be one of 3 reasons they don't go out and buy a new CDM. He's just made his debut, very successfully, and been one of the stand outs. He's already being nurtured by Fernandinho to replace him. On top of that Rodri is the nailed on starter for that spot really, if you go out to buy someone they will most likely have to play a role like Fernandinho and not play all that much being behind Rodri. Finally City want a Striker and probably a left back, and they will probably be going for top dollar players. So a great young prospect combined with a fixed starter on top of other position needs, I don't think City will necessarily buy a Fernandinho replacement next summer. It's still possible but I suppose it depends who they sell and how much they end up spending. If Bernardo goes I think it's a lot more likely.

McFred is the core issue in terms of the XI on the pitch. Ole is a whole different mess on his own, but McFred is so trash. They are poor defensively - even though this is the argument in favor of them from Ole In cultists, but look at the stats, they are trash - they can't take the ball off the backline, they can't pass, they can't pick up runners, and neither of them should be starting for a title chasing club. They are bench players at best.
