I remember going to see Saw 6 on release day, and at the end when Hoffman breaks out of the jaw trap, people started cheering for him. That was probably one of the best Saw cliffhangers.

I LOVE SAW 6! All the traps are super creative, and they parallel William’s formula of how he’d treat sick patients, which really gives him a taste of his own medicine. And he is by far the best trap player in any Saw movie. He has a personal connection to John, so it makes sense why he’d be targeted. And the traps seem to have made him realize his wrongdoings and made him learn the lesson that he was supposed to learn, as we see him sympathetic towards everyone he encounters in the traps. And the cop plot was amazing too. The way they get so close to finding out Hoffman is an apprentice via little things like the scalpel he uses to cut the jigsaw pieces and decoding the voice was so intense, and I love the short action sequence when he kills all the police in the room, something we had never seen before, and they didn't go overboard with him being a slasher villain like in saw 7

Unpopular opinion but spiral is actually one of my favorite Saw films. I like how they placed less emphasis on the traps and horror aspects of the franchise, which made it feel more like a detective thriller, something which felt new and fresh and fit well with the saw franchise. While the twist was obvious, I felt like the motivations behind the twist and the backstory was great.

I would agree I like the story and how it’s different but it just doesn’t feel like a Saw movie. Sometimes it takes me out and makes me feel like im watching a cop drama. That’s also why I didn’t like some of the last saw movies. It became a Hoffman revenge story instead of being Saw.

Recently new subscriber new soul taken. Ranking with 1-2 watches and watched most of em in theaters except 3 of em. 1. SAW (such a classic and most mind blowing ending of any film) 2. SAW II (almost like 1a and such a a great film and better in some ways than OG 3. SAW VI ( omg I had this way too low til a rewatch and it was so great) 4. SAW III 5. SAW IV ( love the twist is happening simultaneously w/3 6. SAW X ( could def rise need to see again) 7. SAW VII 8. Spiral 9. Jigsaw 10. SAW V ( absolute worst and felt like filler but haven’t watched since the theater) While he’s great in VI and love the attack on our health care and getting what they deserve - felt like Hoffmann as an accomplice was over kill and less believable along with Amanda and she they carried out the legacy but feel like his test exposed Hoffmann as not a true apprentice to me if anything happened to Jill, lack of trust,then him going all stereotypical slasher I hated. Lacked the belief in the cause too and what John stood for. But they should’ve waited 5-6 films in to kill John.

Your analysis of Saw 3D is wild. It should be last place, always and forever. 1. We leave off where saw 6 ended (such an amazing ending) only to have Jill scamper away like a weak helpless woman in high heels? 2. The “twist” was so obvious before the movie even came out, and they even spoiled it by having Gordon in the therapy scene so we all knew he was alive, evil monologue and all, 3. Hoffman wasn’t a dirty cop early on yet they portrayed him as one in the flashbacks where he shot a man cold blank, 4. Pink blood, 5. Dream sequence with Jill 6. God awful acting, 7. Side traps were so stupid, including the one where a girl had to slap her abuser to win? And the public trap had no place being in the movie and didn’t contribute anything 8. 3D gimmick 9. Least amount of scenes with John 10. Why did the wife deserve to be burned alive while the husband survived? Also, Dr. Gordon didn’t put the main character in the traps, Hoffman did. Anyways, such a stupid film to wrap up the series

Dudeeee our rankings are so different lol . I absolutely love that you love saw 6 !!! Let’s not forget that it’s the film where Hoffman goes pure evil even a slasher icon I would say . I think saw 3D was also ahead of its time cause Nowadays with how strong social media is , anyone could lie about a tragic event and get famous or even worse, anyone could make up a tragedy and become famous and nobody would question that person or even an already famous could lie about it too. I think spiral could have been a nice concept for a saw series cause on the film, everything happens so quick. One of the things I appreciate about saw 4 is that we get to see the first jigsaw trap with the guy and the knifes and the reason why jigsaw became who he is , honestly I wouldn’t mind a new film expanding that world , with Jill even . Very interesting insight! Saw X definitely became my second favorite in the franchise while the original first will always be the best in my opinion. I really liked Spiral, the slightly humorous homage payed to Saw especially that scene when Chris Rock sees the sawblade and considers using it 😂 And I was surprised with your #1. It was good no doubt but to see a movie so far into the franchise as #1, your explanation makes sense! Great video overall, loving your content!

For saw 4. The “saving everyone plot” resulted that some people got hurt while he did so, the whole “grit” causes the cop to fail methods by not paying attention . But, I always thought, Kramer or Hoffman were just trying to kill off the cops and investigators on Jigsaws Back. Like (forgot her name) but, the female cop in with the acid jar, didn’t explain why she was being tested. So my head cannon was that they were just excuses to kill them

Kerry's reason for being tested was her "obsessive fascination with death". She so obsessed with her work, which primarily involved investigating the fates of dead people, that she neglected the living people around her and eventually even lost contact to her family. Yeah, I too felt like they were just tryna kill off the cops on Jigsaw's back.

The best Saw will always be the original but the worst is debatable. Some say Saw The Final Chapter, some say Saw 5 but for me it’s Jigsaw hands down. I saw that movie in a theater with my cousin and there were points where I was laughing out loud. It’s not just the worst Saw film I’ve ever seen. It’s one of the worst horror movies I’ve ever seen and one of the worst movies in general that I’ve ever seen. The movie is so bad that it’s actually unwatchable. There was nothing about this movie that I enjoyed. The only thing that kept me going on a rampage was the fact that it made me laugh and not because it was funny but because it was stupid on every conceivable level I could possibly imagine.

On your points about portraying villains in a sympathizing way; I think a lot of times, people only really focus on the the idea that, because everyone has goodness and humanity in them, they're worthy of being forgiven. But I think it's worth stating that having sympathetic villains also serves to show that sometimes people can still be villains despite whatever humanity or sympathetic qualities they display. So many times, I see people forgive toxic people over and over again because "they're not THAT bad" or they do nice things sometimes, and I find myself doing this a lot too. But it's important to be reminded that, no matter how nice someone seems to be, real situations will not be cut-and-dry. That bit of humanity in them, or whatever genuine motive someone might have for doing something hurtful, shouldn't be used as a tool to forgive or justify their actions. Sympathetic people have the capacity to be villainous and I think that's really important to show. In the case of Saw X, what I appreciated was the fact that John was shown to be sympathetic, yes. But this was balanced by the fact that John is physically present and directly interacting with his victims more-so in this movie than any other. Even when confronted directly, face-to-face with the suffering caused by his own actions, he wouldn't bat an eye, cementing his place as, yes, the villain. (but, of course, I adore him all the same)

4 with Rigg being tested was about how because he tried to save everyone, his marriage was suffering. There is like one scene with his wife before he gets put in his game and he tells her he has a case and she leaves for her parents because I guess he isn't around too much. That's how I saw it anyway, but I do agree that it is the weakest rationale of the series.

Yeah it's about not being overly obsessed with your job, and being a husband first and foremost. He didn't need to be "cop of the year". There are other cops who can do the job too. I personally loved the rationale behind that. It's not necessarily about saving people, it's about not putting work ahead of everything else in your life, especially your marriage

Damn, I rewatched VI, IV and put VI my top 3 and now watched V again and I owe it a damn apology and have a new found respect for Hoffman lol. Forgot the in-depth back story and how far he went back. I just rewatched all the second time the first time was like 2 years ago. The first 7 worked both times very as an addictive Tv series. Very easy to get drawn in after the first one. The following two are disconnected to the franchise. The killed John and Amanda to early in the series. Now he have to have had tons of accomplishes. Saw X connects well with the original films since he was denied alternative cancer care by the insurance company. The films are very gory but have also mystery and twists that make one keep up the interest effortlessly

Tbh I totally understand how it can feel personal with medical debt being a real burden to more and more people and corporate greed just getting outta control. I hate it so much! I still need to get caught up with the Saw franchise, I really liked the first one. And I’m dying to see Saw X, I’m hoping to take a friend of mine to watch it with me! The Saw franchise has a special place in my heart because it’s pretty much the first horror franchise I was exposed to. I was 4 years old when Saw came out, and I still remember being too scared to look at the poster, haha. But now I’m practically obsessed with John Kramer. I actually think he and Amanda are up there with Candyman and Samara as the most sympathetic horror villains. Game well played, indeed.

The leg Trap scene in Saw X was the first time I felt a scene was too much for me and I’ve seen all of them.

Actually, by Jigsaw, Logan was the FOURTH apprentice revealed. Saw 2 reveals Amanda (later reveals clarify she was recruited 3rd), Saw 4 reveals Hoffman (a later reveal clarifies he was recruited 2nd), Saw 7 reveals Dr. Gordon (who remains the 4th recruited), then Jigsaw reveals Logan, who is specified to have been recruited 1st of all of them. But anyway, here’s my updated ranking… I recently watched Saw X a second time, and I have now a solid place for it, along with shifting the placement of Jigsaw and Saw 2. For starters… I love every film in the series other than Saw 7. The Bobby Dagen part was the WORST part of Saw 7. Hoffman vs Jill was actually entertaining, and the Gordon scenes were cool, just not executed well. Overall Saw 7 is okay to me. And yes, I refuse to call that film anything other than Saw 7. The 3d was dumb and calling it “The Final Chapter” is an insult to Friday the 13th. 10. Saw VII 9. Spiral Spiral was in 9th mainly because it’s still a good and entertaining film on its own (though I won’t deny some of Chris’ lines are a somewhat distasteful, what balances it is Max Minghella’s rational responses), it’s just not a good Saw film to me. In fact, Spiral would have been better as a Seven remake, the messages about the corruption of the police would have worked even better that way. The top eight I enjoy a lot, especially on rewatches. 8. Saw 7. Saw III 6. Jigsaw Saw 1 only was placed lower because a lot of the things I love about the series either started or was refined in Saw 2 on (the bigger overall picture with later films, the time jumps to previous films keeping me on my toes, fun traps, developing the villians, to name some). Saw 1 is still a classic, I just find much more entertainment in several of the sequels based on what they add to the series. As for why I have Jigsaw in the middle, it gets points for acting as a palette cleanser after Saws 1-7 (and also Saw X added into those), similar to why I enjoy Jason Goes to Hell. Plus, it added Eleanor, who is one of the most interesting characters, if only sequels had been made to make her more complex or potentially be the next Amanda, the John Kramer scenes, though only few, were fun, and the final trap is satisfying seeing a POS like Halloran get what was coming to him. Saw 3 has gotten better with every rewatch (especially now that I understand and realize that I can actually relate to Amanda when it comes to her traumatic experiences), but I still find Jigsaw a bit overall more entertaining. The top five are the ones that I grin from start to finish, and at that point it’s down to entertainment level, rewatchability, and the influence of my favorite Saw character, Mark Hoffman, also known as The Hoffinator. 5. Saw II 4. Saw IV 3. Saw X 2. Saw VI 1. Saw V I to this day really love the second trilogy for how much bigger it makes the overall story, Saws 4 and 6 have my favorite endings of the series. Saw 4 beat Saw 2 for having the more sympathetic protagonist, adding Strahm, and a twist that rivals the one in Saw 1, the time twist, plus I love Saw 4’s ending with how everything came together and was bookended with the autopsy in new context. Saw 6 I really love for its real-life messages, acting as the payoff to Saws 3-5, and having the awesome ending with Hoffman. Saw 5 being Hoffman’s origins, the fun group traps (which was refreshing to see victims who were unlikable but did try to think before acting more than most victims), and the awesome chess match with Strahm (who made history in Saw 5 by being the first to beat an unwinnable trap), so it narrowly gets the top spot. Thank you for speaking positively about Saw 5 and not punishing it so much like a lot of fans do. In fact, now you can say you have seen someone else who put Saw 5 higher than expected. As for Saw X, what puts it so high is making John the protagonist (also, Cecilia Pederson was a great foe for him), where I genuinely felt for him and the end was moving, especially his reaction to the kid’s bravery. The additional context for Amanda’s arc was great as well. Then that mid-credits scene got me hyped for more of Hoffman. I have mad respect you placing Saw 6 at the top, it almost gets the top for me as well. I’m feeling optimistic about the future of this series thanks to Saw X, and if the rumor that one plan for a future film is a focus on Hoffman (maybe like Saw X, but now it’s on him, or it’s Cecilia vs Hoffman)… I’d say that’s Prime!

Swap Saw 6 with Saw and that would be my list, nothing beats the original. I only really like Saw 1, 2 and X. The rest were nowhere near as good and I just had many issues with them. Still enjoyable though and any scene with John Kramer was the main highlights from those.

The first two have just so many good memories from high school of my friends coming over and us watching them over and over on DVD. @HauntedHippie definitely not, to be honest saw 3 and 5 are interchangeable for me I put 3 above because of the ending, but love 5 with the fatal 5 trap and the backstory we get with hoffman and finding out he was helping all along even before saw 1 xx

Once again I really enjoyed your ranking of the saw movies. I can’t say I disagree with it. I saw all the Saw movie before I went to see Saw X. I don’t usually rank movies. I’m a first to the last kind of guy. Yes some are better than I know. But Saw X was so good. Like I commented before it was a John Kramer Saw Film. I’m glad you like my thought on finishing the traps in three minutes. Go back and see how much time they waste when the clock starts. I’m like you when you watch a lot of movie. You start to anticipate where it’s going. When it does you go “ oh yeah. “ Can’t wait for the deep dive. 🙂 I know it will be great. 👍 So nice to see my name scroll by. Nice that you ❤me sometimes. Great video Kylie. Oh, I haven't seen Saw VI. But I'll check it out. And, too, as a Canadian I can tell you public health care works, it truly does work. Public health care is based on a set of values around caring for one another. And, too, it's democratic. Health care in America should be a human right, it should be enshrined in the Constitution. Corporations are insane institutions. The CEO must put - by law - the narrow interests of shareholders above all else. It's insane. CEOs accept the framework. So, they are, unquestionably, greedy and selfish. I mean, who would want to be the CEO of, say, an oil company??? It shows that a CEO has a screw loose... but it speaks to the larger problem of capitalism and capitalist institutions.

New subscriber here. Jigsaw is my least favorite in the franchise because of the twist. I found Eleanor interesting, but still, I wouldn't want a continuation of Jigsaw...but if it were to get a sequel, I'd watch it lol. I love Saw 5. My only problem with is it that I didn't find the trap plot as interesting. It's just there. The cat and mouse game with Strahm & Hoffman really outshined it. I kinda wish they woulda went with the original ending of Strahm surviving, but the ending we got is still one of the best in the series. Whether the victims of the fatal five trial deserved those traps is questionable indeed. The two survivors(Brit & Mallick) were the main ones who deserved prison time. I like Spiral, but I agree about the humor. Despite the corruption, I still cared for Angie since she was a hottie and her trap was hella harsh. Saw 3 is an overrated entry imo. I get why Saw 6 is a fan favorite tho. Aside from the pound of flesh trap, I love 6 too. Pound of flash, and the rack are the only traps that are too much for me. I didn't mind the rack as a kid, but I can't watch it now. I know many don't like the needle pit, but I never had a problem with that one.

Fun fact: Saw was inspired by a scene in the original Mad Max. Mad Max knocks a low level criminal's car off the road with his car. The criminal's foot is stuck or something and he demands Mad Max help him, instead Max throws him a hacksaw haha It's definitely still worth watching. And I've experienced the American healthcare first hand my whole life. I'm 41 and I didn't get health insurance until I was 33! Keep in mind I've been seeing doctors regularly since I was born. Long history of health problems. I can assure you that most people don't realize how bad (and expensive!) our healthcare system actually is. As bad as people think it is it's so much worse!
