Yhorm's lore is actually heartbreaking. He's one of my favourite characters, almost entirely because of that fact. Plus I also found the fight fun. Side note: In his first stage, if you get behind Aldrich as he raises his bow for the arrow attack but before he launches it, it won't hit you. But that strat is useless in the second stage; run like hell! All in all, super aggression plus lightning blade is the way to go in that fight.
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын

@matthewdejesus82158 жыл бұрын
I don't get the Yhorm hate either, the fight was epic even if it wasn't super hard. and it WASNT super easy; people are so full of shit. Learning that you have to CHARGE the stormruler instead of using its weapon art like anything else is a hard thing to learn while an angry giant is trying to murder you. It's a cakewalk with siegward, but on a blind solo playthrough it's just as dangerous as any boss while you figure shit out.

Playing this boss by yourself is super fun, playing it with phantoms/siegward is super easy and boring. The challenge entirely comes from having to charge your sword and simultaneously avoid getting hit, that challenge doesn't exist at all if you have other people with you.

Perhaps not as good of a fight as Artorias, holy shit the lore is awesome and the atmosphere is amazing. 3: gonna give it to Nameless King. Lore is awesome and the second phase is fair and difficult. 4: probably Abyss watchers for right now. The fight design was cool, but the characterization in a few short seconds, then the visual awesomeness of the fire, it just hit the spot. 5: Fume Knight. Nearly forgot this dude, but he was the best boss in ds2, for similar reasons to artorias. Honorable mention to Soul of Cinder for a really well designed final fight.

+MrXenification If you take him head-on and go for his left hand every time he finishes a combo then there is still enough tension and action going on to make it an epic fight, and if you use a fully upgraded Dragonslayer Greataxe you should be doing enough damage to take him down in a relatively short time (he is weak to lightning btw.) That's what I did in my first playthrough and it was a lot of fun.

something i just came to realize is that alot of people hated dark souls 2 for having too many "guys in armor bosses" which is true but all of the best souls bosses seem to be humanoid. (Allant, O and S, Fume Knight, Alonne, Artorias etc.)
@grantastic25568 жыл бұрын
Agreed, Fume Knight was my favorite boss! He was also the most difficult
@124312658 жыл бұрын
the main reason people got sick of it was because all those boss fights you mentioned have very unique movesets and mechanics to them. along with the guys in armor complaint usually comes with a complaint about how their movesets weren't extremely varied and because of the hitboxes in that game in particular being absolute trash it just added to the frustration
@XIIIHearts8 жыл бұрын
The issue is that many of these dudes in armor feel too similar to one another to really stand out. We remember the other ones because they felt unique, wile most of the DS2 dudes in armor fights felt too samey.
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a good point. A lot of people (myself included) always hold the humanoid bosses in high regard. I think the problem in Dark Souls 2 was that they were repetitive and (most) lacked complex design.

@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that! I can add it right here for now: Dark Souls 3 - 9 bosses (47% left) Bloodborne - 9 bosses (30% left) Dark Souls 2 - 8 bosses (20% left) Dark Souls - 7 bosses (27% left) Demon's Souls - 6 bosses (26% left) Still pretty consistent with last time, but Dark Souls 3 pulled away from the pack even further!

I really appreciate that you put Yhorm so high on the list. He gets a lot of hate because he purportedly had "more potential than that." However, I think that the cinematic aspect of the fight as well as the fan service weapon and the way that it was used had a dramatic effect that didn't need difficulty or length. ALSO DAT BOSS THEME. Your list rocks, man. I can not WAIT to see your top 10.
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын
It makes me wonder sometimes if the general thinking is that every Souls boss should be in a vacuum that subscribes only to the "tried and true" great bosses (like O&S for example). I love it when I see something fresh - and even though the fight wasn't totally new - it brought back the perfect level of nostalgia for the Storm King and an epic bout in it's own right.
@Papierflugzeug958 жыл бұрын
I just thought about one thing... Could the Darklurker be, in fact, the Goddess Fina? The Armor of Favor shows "the goddess's embrace", and the Darklurker is indeed crossing his arms (as if he was embracing something). It also mentions that her love is as fickle as the weather, and what else in the Souls series perfectly fits that if not the embrace of the abyss, which does grant you immense power (look at Manus, the abyssal enemies in Dark Souls 2 and 3, and Hexes in general) at the cost of your humanity, sanity, or souls.

darksymphony777 That's not all we know. The biggest mystery ever since the first game was who Gwyn's firstborn is, why he was erased from history, etc. That question is answered and we're given one of the most badass, awesome fights in the series, with probably the coolest arena to date, with a sick design. He's got so much going for him I'd be shocked if he isn't top 3. Of course, this is his list..So it's all up to him.
@DarkSymphony7778 жыл бұрын
+DarkFalcon yes but the Gwyn thing is implied not confirmed, but I do see the king being in the top ten no problem but top three a stretch
@ohhai108 жыл бұрын
Hmm? The game pretty much outright tells you he's Gwyn's firstborn. The lightning attacks, his crown description saying it looks like Gwyn's, being called Nameless King, the firstborn's name was removed from the annals of history, leaving him nameless, his weapon description saying he's the heir of lightning, which the firstborn was said to inherit in the first game. It's not just implied. For Dark Souls they shoved this down our throats. There's even more, but this is pretty clear cut for the Souls series.

It was really damn good. I feel bad for anyone who casually dominated Yhorm without seeing the detail and care added in that area. And thanks Victor, will do!

Well well. Looks like I got 6/10 of my predictions right :D What did I win? Anyway my prediction for next part: Judge Gundir Ludwig Sihn Sif Kalameet Rom ( has he already been listed? ) Manus Bell Gargoyles Looking Glass Knight Tower Knight or Penetrator Anyway, thanks to you I was reminded that the Flexile Sentry existed XD . Also I'm surprised to see Aldrich and Darklurker so low. And lastly thanks for the lore lesson on Mytha. This video US the most entertaining for me ( especially that rule 34 part) . The last part was hilarious too with the buttfaces and The Vicar Amelia email. I'm guessing you'll be getting an email from Aldrich or Darklurker today for having ranked them a bit lower than expected. Also shame on you old iron king, your wife is higher on the list that you.

Why is the asylum demon's difficulty 10 out of 10? He was the first enemy I ever fought in a soulsborne game and I beat him on my first try...
@kurosakikun968 жыл бұрын
it means he was perfectly scaled for where he was, it has nothing to do with if he was balls breakingly hard or not

@zephfiel99628 жыл бұрын
His difficulty rating is based on how hard he thinks the boss should be for its role/location in the game. 10/10 means thedemodcracy thinks the challenge this boss offers is perfect for that point in the game.

lol I remember when I first played a souls game which was ds1, I had no idea what anything was, I didn't understand any mechanics and going into the asylum demons arena I was scared shitless, he was so hard that I gave up on DS for nearly a year

Great video! I am working on my NG+ for DS2, and I can't wait to see how high the Fume Knight gets rated. for one thing, I thought the DS2 lore was amazing, especially the fact that the DLC gave you...hope. However, that Fume Knight...I died more times against him then all the other bosses combined until I decided to TOTALLY ALTER my playstyle, became dodgy, dropped my great sword and shield, and learned how to git gud. That fight finally made me appreciate how to play the damn game.
@JasonDoe10008 жыл бұрын
Many people find his first phase harder than his second phase A little trick (which is also a great gimmick because of the lore) is that if you wear Velstadt's helm, Raimie the Fume Knight will instantly go in his second phase

Surprised Mytha was that high, but I've always considered her kind of forgettable considering the meh area leading up to her. Flexile Sentry would be higher up for me if the fight was more difficult. Sadly, I've never really noticed the water level rising because the Sentry is so easy to kill. Keep up the good work, man. Looking forward to the next video!
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын
Definitely only the lore that let Mytha creep up this high. I'm in agreement with you on Flexile, I wish the fight was more challenging.
@kingpiniv8 жыл бұрын
DS2 lore is so odd. Individual areas, NPCs and bosses have interesting and in some cases amazing lore, but putting it all together is a mess and the final product is difficult to make anything out of.

For sure. I think that's a good description of the game in general - there are some damn high "highs" and some incredibly low "lows"

Hey guys, he doesn't run on our schedule. He runs on his own. Instead of rushing him, why don't we all wait patiently for the well-edited, quality content we've come to expect from this channel? I'd just hate for him to feel pressured for time and make inferior videos as a result. Or worse, him get frustrated and stop making videos altogether. I know none of us want that. So please, why don't we, the viewers, just let the creators do their thing. Trust me, I'm just as eager to see the next video as everyone else, but let's not forget the virtue of patience!

Aldrich is actually sort of a reference to Orstirn and Smough, because when you kill Aldrich you can buy Smough's armour, where as with every other boss you get their specific armour set from the handmaiden. So maybe Aldrich is actually Smough's soul reborn. They are both cannibals as well, so this theory may just be true.

Yhorm has perhaps one if the best back stories in ds3 in not all of dark souls. Plus when you figure out him and onion bro go way back, and how that encounter ends with their final fight, it really makes it that much better. I always opt to fight with Seigward, even if it makes the fight a breeze.

I imagine Cleric beast is a great first boss for dark souls veterans, but I had never played a souls game so had no idea where to go. I accidently stumbled into the Gascoigne fight first. Because of that, I beat Cleric first try and I'm pretty pumped I still have never lost to him.

@stephenk40308 жыл бұрын
+theDeModcracy my favorites have to be Champion Gundyr (spelling?) and Father Gascoigne. Champion Gundyr was such a blast to overcome and same with Gascoigne, after he stopped spamming his pistol! I've had fun with all the bosses in Bloodborne though except the Blood Starved Beast, it's hard to choose!
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын

It's funny how everyone talks about parrying the Blood Starved Beast. Just jump to the left and 90% of its attacks will miss - no parrying required.

Every single time I see a new video in this series, I click it straight away. That being said, I'm a bit sad that the entry on Seath was so short. You discussed his lore a fair amount, but nothing about the actual mechanics of the fight. I would have been especially interested to see how you took his curse buildup attacks with your agressive play style.
@theDeModcracy8 жыл бұрын
Happy to hear it Jonah! I try to keep a balance with how much I may have focused on mechanics in the difficulty ranking series, since I consider this series supplemental to that one. I'll definitely keep that in mind as I finish up the last few videos though, so thanks for the feedback!

My problem with Yhorm was how poorly the Storm Ruler was handled. Dumping it into your inventory and expecting you to both equip it AND figure out how the weapon art worked while you had a hyper-aggressive giant attacking you is pure insanity, and people who didn't play Demon's Souls wouldn't even understand what the weapon art is supposed to do to begin with. This could have easily been solved by designing the whole Profaned Capital a bit better than the obviously rushed version we got. Maybe put the Storm Ruler in some location outside of the boss room so that you have a chance to look it over, and have a wall of fire in front of the fog door that you need to use the weapon art on to pass through. Then, since the designers would know that the player understands how the Storm Ruler works BEFORE facing Yhorm, they could make the fight more of a challenge. Maybe during his second phase, he could actually use the Greatshield he supposedly has to block the Storm Ruler's attacks, forcing the player to fight conventionally and/or wait for the proper timing to get a bit hit from the Storm Ruler in. As it stands, the fight's just a bit of a mess and a lot of wasted potential.

Ah Yhorm. This is a fight I remember well. When I first got Dark Souls 3 after seeing the boss rankings for that game, I swore that I would beat him without the Storm Ruler. When I entered the arena and seigward (my favorite character) came in with me with a storm ruler of his own, I was delighted and pumped. And damn it was a good fight. Seigward would use the storm rulers skill occasionally, but infrequently enough for Yhorm to get in some hits of his own. Between seigwards air blast and my graceful moves with the Farron greatsword, I had a wondrous feeling I hadn't felt since the Abyss Watchers.
