Now this is the last thing in the world I expected to have pop up on my feed. Love the NES Tecmo Bowl and still play it occasionally. I think it got the best mix between football and arcade game. 1% simulation, 99% fun. I wish someone would remake it with updated players but the same feel and simple controls.

Check out "Legend Bowl" for PC. It reminds me of NES Tecmo Bowl and a little of 16 bit Madden. Customizable rosters and community made NFL classic teams.

They have it on the NES Classic if you have that. Granted they no longer have names, but it’s just as much fun. They made another version on PS3 which wasn’t bad as well. You could change the graphics to make it look more modern (modern of an old school rendition of a game the time of release anyway)or make it look like the old school NES.

This game made me become a fan of real football... initially played with the Bears until I saw Bo was just a bit faster than Payton. I became a life long Raider. And in that game the Raiders had two cheat codes. Bo, everyone knows, but he mentioned Howie, but he used him the wrong way. I routinely sacked everyone with Howie by choosing the best running play and just diving in to sack the qb. If you are fast enough, it never fails. Could occasionally catch them on hand-offs too.... loved that game

I’m a tell you another underrated team on this game: Cleveland. Kevin Mack at running back was a beast and Frank Minnifield was a great cornerback. Webster Slaughter was a really good wide receiver and Bernie Kosar was a pretty good quarterback too. I used to do damage with this team going one on one against other players.

I played this game a lot when I lived in the dorm as a freshman in 1991. I played so much that I was able to at least make someone think twice about using the so called unstoppable plays. Slants are close to unstoppable, but they can be picked off. A lot of teams can block fg and xp attempts. With SF use Carter, the second guy from the top. With Chicago use McMichael. Basically any team that has a fast DL or LB can do it. Dallas can't block kicks so there are out as a top 6. The top 3 teams are Bears Giants and Niners. These 3 are way better than the rest. After that I'll go with the Raiders Denver and Seattle.

This is Tecmo Bowl, not Tecmo Super Bowl. But SF and Houston easily the two top teams on that game. Up there with the Giants, Denver, KC, Chicago, and so on.

LA Raiders are easily stopped by NY and Washington. Pick pass 1 the whole game and be Banks on NY or Marshall on Washington as they are unblocked on Bo's only run and Allen's only run. Defuses the whole Raiders offense. The Raiders are not a very good team in this game compared to SF, NY and Chicago.

I can intercept that Todd Christianson slant. It's hard but it can be done. The way you do it is, you have to play with the defensive player. The player you pick you float right in that area where Todd usually catches the ball in the route. Don't try to cover Todd real tight. Just hover in the area he will catch the ball. If you do.this correctly the game will take your defender and put it where Todd is automatically. It grabs your defender automatically and you pick.it off.

I've played all the teams, scored over 1200 points on the season with the #1 49ers, including two perfect 140-0 games, and I put raiders 2 and Washington 3; skins because qb to Clark or sanders is a win, and Darryl Green can get lots of INTs

20 touchdowns in 6 minutes of gameplay. I call BS, do it again, and post it. Each kickoff alone costs 10-15 seconds. I know you can shut them out, but you would have to get interceptions on almost every defensive play to have time to score 20 touchdowns (without fumbles, every time the computer runs wastes time). Plus, the D has a 25% chance of calling your play. Eventually, they will get a few right, wasting even more time.

Yes. Doug Williams at QB, BTW. The omly weaknesses I remember are that our RB was ok, and the playbook was deep ball focused. That made it difficult to counter blitzes. We won the actual SB that year too!

@@HRRYTDUB1 Super Tecmo Bowl for SNES. Which to me is the best game of the franchise. All 28 teams at the time. The last SNES game was The Super Tecmo final edition. Which added the Jaguars and Panthers and the 2 point conversion. But the original Super Tecmo Bowl for the SNES is my favorite.

I feel that the 2 best overall teams are the bears & the giants. Joe Morris is good to use on the giants. Running or catching. I agree with the cowboys having a weak defense on there. The raiders are a qb & an impact lb away from being no.1. And I like using a heavy dose of bo & marcus.

I think those teams are really excellent teams. I just think SF around that time was dominating the league at the time. I was born in the 80s and I watched them do it. But yes no doubt SF, Bears, and Giants are the three best teams in the league on this game. That’s how it was in the 80s. Unfortunately you are right, the Raiders are a quarterback away but dealing with Bo, Allen, Gault, and that defense is a handful.

I know we're talking about the first Tecmo bowl game, but in super tecmo bowl, the Giants were fun to use. I always hit on a Stephen Baker down the middle for a 10 yard gain .. it was unstoppable and I loved some of the david meggett plays .. they were fun to use and of course LT was unstoppable

The 6 Best teams are 1. SF, 2. NY, 3.Chicago, 4. Indianapolis, 5. Cleveland and 6. Denver. 1. San Francisco is the best offense in the game. Montana fits throws into tight windows with the 2nd best arm in the game (tied with Elway). Craig is the Star of this offense on his only run and on Pass 2 and Pass 3. Rice is easily covered by choosing Pass 1 and not using the bottom LB. Ronnie Lott has the same Speed and Acceleration on Defense as Lawrence Taylor. Michael Carter is also very fast and can be used to block Extra points and FG's from the #2 spot. 2. NY is mid on offense. Morris keeps teams honest and the Bavaro hook is the most unstoppable play in Tecmo Bowl. LT gets all the hype, but Banks as the top OLB and Marshall as the top DE are better choices in most cases to allow for the bottom receiver to be covered, especially vs SF. LT Can block FG's but Banks at the #4 spot is probably the better choice. 3. Chicago is held back by their middling offense. Payton is tied for the 2nd best RB in the game, Boso has a difficult pass to stop, but it can be intercepted. Gault only runs streaks . Their defense is top notch although Singletary and McMichaels get blocked on every run play. Duerson is the safer choice when you know the other team is running. Gentry returning kicks makes up for Chicago's lack luster offense. 4. Indianapolis people laugh at Indy, because of Trudeau's weak passing, but their playbook is the best in the game. Dickerson (Tied With Payton as the #2 Running Back) has a run to the top and bottom and a pass on Pass 1. The Indy playbook spreads the defense out so far that it can negate Trudeau's weak arm. On defense Bickett is the focal point and can block longer FG kicks from the #7 spot. 5. Cleveland has good route spacing on their pass plays and Kosar delivers the ball with decent zip. Kevin Mack is slow but can popcorn weaker defenders with the highest HP in the game. On defense Dixon and Minnifield can shut down most run games and have the speed to cover vs the pass. McNeil is the 2nd best return man and gives Cleveland's offense a boost. 6. Denver has the 2nd best QB (tied with Montana), but their receivers are lack luster. Dorsett has a run to the top and the bottom to keep them balanced. Jones at the top DE is the best choice on defense and Mecklenberg can be used in certain passing situations, but get caught up in the blocking too often on runs. The best of the rest is 7. Seattle, 8. Miami, 9. Dallas, 10. Los Angeles, 11. Washington and 12. Minnesota. NOTE: For those of you that balk at Los Angeles being so far down the list, know this. Los Angeles can be stopped by using NY or Washington specifically, but any team can beat them. Bo Jackson's Run does not block the Top OLB. Banks for NY and Marshall for Washington can stuff Bo all day long. All you have to do is pick Pass 1 every play and be the top OLB and you defuse the whole Raider offense. If the opponent chooses to run Bo with Run 1 you are waiting unblocked. If they chose to run Allen with Run 2 he's not fast enough to be effective. If they choose Pass 1 it will default to pass 2 and be nano blitzed. If you choose Pass 2 Brown is always covered which leaves Allen and Christiansen right next to each other on the field for easy picks. I played this game relentlessly as a kid and was actually banned from using SF in my neighborhood. We researched this game inside and out and know every play inside and out. People think the TE slants from Cosby, Boso, Christensen etc. or Craig's Slant are unstoppable. They're not. They are all able to be intercepted. The only plays that can't be intercepted are Hooks if they are done correctly. The Bavaro hook is the best play in the game as it cannot be stopped if thrown with the right timing. I love the Tecmo Bowl content, keep it coming. Also check out Tecmobowl vs RBI. A guy named Brad breaks all this stuff down.

Super tecmo is my favorite. I enjoy playing with the 1990 season roster more, plus u get 8 plays instead of 4. And then I like super tecmo for super Nintendo. Same game as super tecmo from original Nintendo (1990), just for super Nintendo and the rosters are from 1992/93 NFL season. Both my favorite games ever

Singletary is great for the Bears, but they player you will dominate with on defense is Dave Durerson. The safety on the top part of the defense. His closing speed is amazing.

LT is the greatest video game character of all time. IF their QB avoids a sack by LT, he drops back, intercepts the pass & takes it to the house. Opposing TD’s only = 6, PAT’s 100% blocked as is any FG attempt.

Good stuff. Colts if you have the Eric Dickerson version are an underrated team. Get a couple good run plays plus a screen to Dickerson as well. Defense sucks, but Duane Bicketts okay and if you drop him in coverage and get a couple picks and just keep scoring you can be successful.

Manley, Mann, Marshall, Green, and Wilburn are all top defenders. Cox punting and Green returning are as good as most. They're based on the Super Bowl Champion. Of course they're really good. I always played against my older cousins who ONLY played as the Raiders... If you use the Nose Tackle and the offense isn't in shotgun, you can dive immediately as the ball is snapped. It results in a sack EVERY time (except when they are in shotgun). Add in Bo and the Raiders are UNSTOPPABLE.

There's two versions of this game on the nes. One with Eric Dickerson at RB and one with Albert Bentley at RB. Look at the Nintendo seal on the game one is gold and one is black. Can't recall which player is on what

I tried it this year. First time since 2000 that I lost to the computer. Lost twice in the season and now the Vikings thrash me in the Tecmo Bowl every time I try. This is on Switch, it is not the original NES game as the rosters are slightly different and no names are shown.

I'll take the Giants over the Broncos. And I'd say Vikings or Seahawks are a better choice at #6. Vikings have Chris Doleman or Joey Browner on D. Anthony Carter on offense. Seahawks got Largent and Warner on offense. Freddy Young and Brian Bosworth on D.

@@bgreaser As a kid in the early 90's, not even 10 years old yet,: 1. Chicago (Walter Payton is unreal; always used them) The other teams I thought were good were; 49ers/Giants/Raiders (Bo Jackson is ridiculous)/Redskins (best Defense if I remember) Top 5 at least
