Exactly why magic is my favorite. I know you have to grind a lot but you have no worries for death. Just stun lock the enemies with double casting, problem solved. A lot of people have problem with bandits one shoting them with cinematic kill, yeah can't relate to that.

If you get Necromantic Grimoire, you can have like 5 skeletons. One by default, 2 by twin souls. 3 and 4 by Bone Colossus, and 5 by a rare enchanted necromancer tunic with fancy looks. And then it slaps moar undead on top of it. Including an undead thing that spawns even more undead. What I do: Bone Colossus, Ancient Deathpriest, that guy with an axe, 2 or 3 powerful skellies (the third replaces Bone Colossus however, keeping summons directly tied to you capped at 5... But your minions' minions don't count against you.)

@@DarkCreedNinja Even better, you can use the Empower Necromancy enchant to extend the length of any summon spell. Affects Soultrap Enchant too. Banish Daedra and Banish Undead do damage over time to the targets they are made for if not instantly dispelling them, so yeah. That could also be used to curse any Daedra or Undead with a stacking and extended damage over time effect. Aaaaand the enchantments are learnable. Dark Moon (grants more Magicka but costs 30% health regen) works on anything that Fortify Magicka can be s applied to, but Empower Necromancy is robe/armor exclusive.

Was using a Khajit character who specializes in heavy armor, so I had incredibly high armor rating which boosted my unarmed damage thx to fist of steel in the heavy armor tree. Only cheating I did on that character was restoration loop just to insta max alchemy, enchanting, smithing, and speech. My gear didn’t have the observed values you see from the glitch but actually possible values since it was meant to be possible and I just wanted to skip the grind.

There’s actually a spell “elemental bolt” that is only apprentice level but does absurd damage that can one-shot most early enemies (used in the Spiffing Brit video that was released recently), and has both a novice variant (elemental flare) and expert variant (elemental blast). The description says that it does fire and lightning damage, but that’s misleading it actually does ice damage as well, AND is affected by all three elemental damage boosts in the destruction tree, I believe in a multiplicative effect (the spiffing Brit explains better in his video). This combined with the right equipment and buffs(as with every build) can be absurdly broken. Sorry the explanation is so long, but enjoy!

Outside of Master level spells for most schools Magic in skyrim is pathetically weak and cannot scale long term. Enemies scale but spell damage? That stay's the same. IMO they should have made enchantments towards schools add %DMG boosts and extended time boosts. Not reduce cost because you can achieve 0% mana cost rather early on buuuuuut again DPS not scaling means sh!t for late game magic only players

Where is some cases it makes it scale in dmg by 1% per level which caps out to double damage at best outside of perk bonuses. This doesn't alleviate the other issues such as potions not providing buffs other than regen and a slight damage boost with the overhaul. Vanilla only affects regen at best. The arguement that mage based classes especially pure mage is the weakest build in Skyrim stands because without mods it doesn't scale long term and short term without potions and enchanted gear is too costly without investing almost exclusively into mana. Yes some expert level spells are great and stand out easily making gameplay vastly different such as invisibility however others feel like a 25% DPS increase at a 40% mana cost increase. Yes you can fix the mana cost with perks and enchantments but again comparatively against a spell sword or even an enchantment focused player you're always at a disadvantage with some enchantments easily reducing MAG DMG or outright nullyifing magic. As much as some like to argue it's viable it's only viable with the introduction of mods which already disqualifies it due to mods being sandbox tools capable of making any and all playstyles viable

​@@jasonbadenhorst7977I agree with you but it's still a fact that ever since I started playing Skyrim casting spells was fun and that no matter the cost you would try to find a way to cast them which would make them more powerful depending on the sort of spell you are trying to cast, it doesn't mean I'm saying the mage playstyle is the best I'm just saying magic is a fun way to play because you're essentially not exclusively relying on potions and you have mana even if you use one handed weapons, two handed weapons or bow whatever you use you will still have mana, sure you can defeat an enemy with weapons but why not weaken them first by spending a little mana or/and heal yourself in battle and conjure an attronach or a thrall to protect and fight for you. In my opinion magic is still a very good option to choose no matter what kind of a fighting style you use. Plus no weapons really stagger an opponent except for the windshear sword(as far as I know) whilst with magic can stagger an opponent is constantly staggered which gives you an opportunity to make more damage with magic first and then if needed finish off with weapons and get this magic still has a radius while with two handed weapons u need a perk at the end of the perk tree to hit everyone. Like even if you start out hidden and hit enemies with some of the largest spells in your arsenal like Lighting Storm you will still only do a fraction of the damage a sharp stick will. And before you give 'buts' I know illusion and making people fight each other is norm at high levels but that only proves my point on how weak destruction becomes in the long haul. Literally if you have to spell spam a dragon with fifteen plus thunder bolts late game that is weak.

Then add the claw gauntlets and then if you can enchant them with gloves of pungent from the Riften Sewers then you can hit harder than even most late game two handed weapons and hit faster. @@Vincrand As if soul gems aren't a factor. Besides, mix potions with the same restoration loop of fortify destruction on your gear and it'll outperform any melee weapon. When you introduce exploits, you're barely playing the same game. Pit an unmodified fork against the unmodified flames spell most races start the game with, it's not even close.

@@pixelbit5 I don't use loops and soul gems in my previous mentioned build aren't a factor either. Destruction cost reduction also reduces the drain on destruction weapon enchantments. Enchant every piece of gear and never need any potion/ soul gem again. In that build I did have a 2nd set for cheaper alteration (cast armor spell at the start of the fight). No maintenace cost, no alchemy, no smithing perks, can beat any official game content. What did I pick: enchanting, destruction (only needed more elemental damage as works for enchants), weapon perks that increase attack speed and alteration.

Coming from Oblivion Skyrim´s magic was letdown for me. In oblivion you had magics on a quickslots which you immediately casted (and yes, there was animation), while in Skyrim you had to set it to equip and then cast it, limiting its use with two-handed weapons or dual wielding. Id understand if it was stronger, but never got the feeling that it was in any way stronger than Oblivion´s. So i just assumed wizards degenerated during the centuries and moved to assassin.

Agreed. In late game Oblivion I made a spell that caused one fire damage on self for maybe 30 seconds, plus other fortifying buffs; setting myself on fire and sprinting into battle unarmed was such a cool thing to do. 😂 Skyrim lost so much creativity by its magic system

The lack of spellcrafting killed magic in Skyrim. You need mods to make it half as good. Not being able to take your hand off your weapon for a second to cast a spell hurts too of course but what does it matter if you have nothing good to cast?

I usually train enchanting and 2 handed just so I can increase the damage that the weapon does by enchanting armour with a boost to 2 handed attacks, Nothing is more satisfying than mowing through enemies, nigh immortal due to armour and one shotting even the most powerful of enemies
