I was checking out the engine in Wikipedia. Up to 60 horses for take-off, which is pretty good. The cylinder heads are oil-cooled, but the rest of the motor is air-cooled. You can see the pipework at around 3:55. HKS is a Japanese automotive company, with a pedigree in racing car engines. This engine is dual capacitive system (not magneto) but uses Bing-type carburettors. I'd like to see it with fuel injection eventually. It is apparently designed to compete with the Rotax 582. That's the nerdy bit! I still think there's a lot of drag and unnecessary exposure to the elements up there...

Video and the stills are absolutely nice and the aircraft touchdown is awesome 👍

This seems to be a very well designed craft...

I know this is an old video, but I am installing one on my s14. do you have and pics of the engine mount and oil cooler set up?

Had an S14 with a Rotax 582. I'd much prefer a 4 stroke. The S14 was fun to fly but they don't float much at all. Be ready for an aggressive sink rate.

do you need a license for this type of air craft?

That is a nice looking Rans. Reminds me of flying mine down there. I had a lot of fun in that plane. Is there a new location for the chute, or does he not have one? I had a blow out panel on the right rear fuselage of mine. I also removed the wheel pants, they only made about a 2-3 mph difference and it allowed me to take it into rougher places. Not to mention it was a pain taking them off every time to replace the tires. Out here it's probably not as big of a deal, but in Colorado I was putting tires on every 2-3 months.

+No name --- He has the BRS chute located in the nose. Upon deployment, the rocket easily punches through the thin plastic top of the nose cone, dragging the chute with it.

Why do these planes sit on their tails when not running? Why cg so far back even with a pilot in the cockpit? What happens during engine failure? Tail heavy accidents just waiting to happen?
@glassdogangle3 жыл бұрын
When the pilot sits in the aircraft, his weight makes the aircraft's CG well within normal limits because his center of gravity is forward of the aircraft's ideal CG.

Looks great! I still have one beef about ultralights reinventing the aeroplane, though: most designers forget about the engine. Propulsion is an afterthought. The aircraft look like a car with a lawnmower on the roof. Yet this is a good-looking aircraft design, and Rans are known for some very desirable products. Why not put some cowling round the motor and improve the streamlining? Is not having any cover a means to save a couple of pounds? Why is everyone stuck in the 1910s?

Travelbugse28 Cooling mainly. A lot are 2 stroke engines and cool better in the open air. Weight also. If you are trying to come in under FAR part 103 every gram counts.

Sorry I know absolutely nothing about this engine, except that it is a four stroke. I put the engine model in the title simply for informational purposes. Google is your friend.
