Reciting the ideology does not make the ideology true. The SPLC calling it a 'conspiracy theory' is just the SPLC showing that they support cultural Marxism as a tactic, there is nothing 'anti-semetic' about pointing out that Marxists manufacture conflict in order to break down a society to pave the way for Marxist take-overs.

I love that the trailer told me absolutely nothing. I can only assume the book is about an adult woman who needs saving from walking into traffic and shallow ponds. How did the kids know to line up against the wall if it’s the first day of class and they’re freshmen? Does this happen in all freshmen classes? Why am I stuck on this one specific thing when the rest of the book sounds like it also doesn’t make sense 🤣🤣

The only thing I could even think of would be if there was a syllabus requirement where the teacher asked you to know classroom etiquette in her class or if the school had an open house and the teacher was there and went over it. The only problem with that (that I can think of) is that in both instances the blame would fall on the character for not reading the syllabus/going to the open house (Misspelled a word)

I disagree. References can help establish a time period in a subtle way (emphasis on subtle, which some authors don't understand lol). Why say that your story takes place in the 60s when you can have the characters see a trailer for a "new" Kubrick film?

As someone who attended hs in Texas and was surrounded by plenty of kids who could speak spanish, the kids who were fluent were normally put in advanced spanish classes with teachers who's first language was spanish...so why would her freshman, normal spanish class be full of fluent spanish speakers? And the few kids that were in the regular classes but could speak spanish were the ones who weren't really interested in participating, so I can't imagine anyone being that eager to answer questions in her class like that
@claiternaiter446
@claiternaiter446 Жыл бұрын
Also grew up in Texas, but it was a small town and you couldn’t pick what level of Spanish you took until after Spanish 1. After that you could do regular or preAP Spanish 2. I think it was a required class at that time, so everyone had to take it regardless of if they already spoke it or not.
@Aalisrocklist
@Aalisrocklist Жыл бұрын
It could be something the author took from college level, maybe from a college experience. Many Spanish speakers take basic Spanish intentionally to boost their GPA, and people who are bad at learning Spanish get frustrated (jealous). I saw that first hand, I'm just commenting on something I saw myself attending college in Texas. Just a thought regards were this author must be salty from.

I have one thing to say in the author's defense: Adoption agencies, when they have nothing better, will at times use the date when a baby was surrendered as their legal birthdate. If both of them were surrendered on the same day, which they presumably were, then they would have the same birthday. Also, some adoptive parents celebrate the date they adopted the child as the child's birthday, or even the date they were surrendered to the system. Also, a lot of states have something called 'safe-haven laws', wherein babies can be left at places like forestations, hospitals, churches, ect. without an investigation being launched about the parents or the surrounding circumstances. They do this so that people who have children under bad circumstances wont be deterred from giving them up to the system by the threat of legal consequences. The babies could have been left at any safe-haven and would have been taken in with no investigation into the parents.

The thing is having white skin abs black hair can be described unflatteringly if you wanna paint your MC as conventionally unattractive. “My chalky skin and flat black hair always sounded nice in books, but on me, it made my skin look the greyish colour of three day old oatmeal on a black square plate.” From that we get both a look at how MC views themselves and get a (bad) attempt at self-deprecating humour.

Characters' thoughts are actually put in quotes in belarusian and russian languages(probably in many more, these are just both my mother-tongues), because in these languages speech , as in dialogues, is marked with dashes "-" -Bla, bla, bla. -He said. -Bla, bla, bla. - She repeated. "Gosh, he's so weird." She thought. But I have no idea why would an author who writes in english do it, or why wouldn't an editor edit that(if the author had one) because, really, the dialogue lines are in quotes but then personal thoughts are also in quotes?? I would ditch the book, it's not my job to figure out how to read and understand that mess😂😂😂 well, at least it's free, but still. Why would you confuse your readers like that. You rely on them to like ur writing and buy your future books. Why make their reading experience harder?

“The senior who was in a freshman class?” I’m not sure how it is elsewhere in the US, but you could take most intro language courses at any time in high school. So, you could have anyone from freshman up to senior in Spanish 1, although the students would likely skew more toward freshmen and sophomores, and maybe some juniors, due to it being common for the language requirement to be at least 2 years of the same language. Although considering the rest of the weirdness in this book, why am I surprised? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The dialects of Spanish spoken around Texas and Mexico are pretty significantly different, and most of the native Spanish speakers had little or no education in Spanish grammar so often they struggled in Spanish classes when they thought it’d be super easy.

In a time when I used to read everything I could get my hands on, I remember a sci-fi book called something like Timekeeper (I can't find it right now on Google, but I have a vivid memory of the cover). In the book, there was a society of people travelling in time and space to different dimensions and stealing the ideas and technologies found there under the guise of safekeeping them, because they could become too "dangerous" for those societies to have them (In fact they were a society of parasites who had cool powers but didn't want to do the work themselves). I was reminded of this idea when you mentioned that part of the book, and maybe it's too much of a coincidence? I mean, the "inspiration" from more recent media is blatantly obvious.

Holy incest, Batman! Also, why do the two characters who are meant to be twins have no shared visual characteristics? From the cover and trailer alone, if you had asked me which two were related, I would have said the two with dark hair. I know that irl fraternal twins don't necessarily look alike, (and it may have been described in the book; i won't read it to find out) but there should be some familial trait to connect the two. Why do she and Piercing Blue Eyes White Man look so similar?? They both have black hair and blue eyes!

I think indie authors could do a lot better if they read reviews of other indie published books to see what issues are common among them. But honestly, JMB seems so self absorbed I doubt she cares about actually writing a good book and just cares about selling them whether they’re quality or not.

The whole angsty Spanish class thing is hilarious. I'm in Southeast Texas. Half our school spoke Spanish at home, yet they still failed Spanish, just like we all struggled in English class. As a Spanish teacher... in a southwestern state... 1. The first day of school is syllabus day and rarely is Spanish actually happening 2. If you already know Spanish in a Spanish 1 class, teachers move you. We don't want you in a beginning class. 3. Hire a translator? So you'll cheat? 4. Already fluent? Because the freshmen pay better attention than you do and can actually answer the teachers questions? 5. Sometimes we get seniors in Spanish 1. We also don't check/know more often than not because we know all 4 grade levels can take our class. 6. I rewatch this video regularly and every time the Spanish teacher stuff gets me so here I am commenting

I went into my Spanish class not realizing that I had Spanish skills. This isn’t made up. I grew up with white patents who both knew Spanish and a family friend who spoke Spanish. I took Latin and Greek. Turns out, over all those years, I had passively picked up on some things. So I came into the 9-week Spanish immersion program and our teachers introduced themselves, talked about class expectations, and spoke briefly about their backgrounds. Then they asked if anyone had understood what they said. I raised my hand and translated as much as I could remember upon prompting. There was another class that would shave 3 weeks off the program, but they kept me where I was and had me help with interpreting and tutoring while I learned to speak correctly and VASTLY improved my vocabulary. That’s the closest to an exception I can think of. I’ve now been fluent since mid-2002 thanks to that program and then speaking nothing but Spanish at most times for several months after the program ended.

It would at least explain how all the other kids knew to go and stand next to the wall. The explanation for them doing that, despite supposedly having assigned seats could've been that the teacher assigned them a different seat each day or maybe each week.
