PIGGY: I've got a nickname for this boring melt style of football that England plays. I call it "Southgate Ball". I live in 🇺🇸 and the NFL is my first love and in the late 80s there was a coach of the Cleveland Browns named Marty Schottenheimer. Long story short, he was the Southgate of his day, always choked when matters most (look up "The Drive" & "The Fumble" 2 of the most infamous games in their history) because he was too conservative. He played not to lose and he ALWAYS lost. His style of play was infamously called "Marty Ball" (Park The Bus mentality of its day) and thats what I think of when I see England play this hideous, put you to sleep type football. Honestly, I'd rather take a swan dive off of The Empire State Building onto a row of railroad spikes than subject my eyes to 90 more minutes of "Southgate Ball". What he did after Shaw's goal in the final was CRIMINAL and he should be put away for. You are telling me,you are going to park the bus in the 3RD MINUTE!?! Thats the time when the place is shaking to try and put your foot on Italy's neck. Im not even an England fan and im getting pissed off. What he is doing is the equivalent of leaving the Ferrari in the garage. Somebody call The Libertines because Southgate is a fucking waster!! ABSOLUTELY UNFORGIVABLE!!!!

I think Southgate has been inspired by Greece 2004 and is trying to win it playing even worse football than they did. That match could be summarised from the last 5 seconds with one final chance to get the ball into the box they instead play it backwards towards defence. I'm fed up of this possession based rubbish where we'd rather play safe than risk creating chances for our attacking players.

In my opinion, the absence of Grealish in this tournament is a howler in itself. Without such a talented player who can keep the ball forward, dribble and have a game mind, England remains weak in attack. Moreover, Foden and Saka are players who play in two teams with high offensive power in the Premier League, but this tournament in particular, they cannot do anything other than play back the ball they received. It is really shameful to sit back and look for instant goals in such a squad.
