Thanks to that Canipa Effect complete bullshit video about how studios don't matter and how Madhouse wasn't involved in making OPM S1 (lol wtf) and how it's the director that took care of everything, The obvious truth that people don't see (or pretend not to see) is that the staff changed in OPM S2 because the studio changed, without Madhouse, S1 would've not been what it was, because they are the ones who gathered the talented staff that made it what it was. Madhouse refusing to work on S2 because the production committee didn't provide them with a good contract seems the most logical theory for me because: 1) Madhouse was ranked 7th out of 8 companies in the first season's committee, which means they enjoyed next to no profit from its success. 2) Because they did the same with the Mahouka movie in the same time frame, which implies that the problem was from Madhouse side and not the committee. 3) The producers don't go to the directors and give them an anime to make, they go to studios, negotiate the deal with them and sign a contract, from there on the studio is in charge of most of the production process, including gathering the staff using their connections that they built over the years (Barring some rare cases where the producers/Original Creator request specifically someone to be involved), and creating an environment that allows them to work in good conditions (which involve hiring and contacting hundreds of people) and this is not a job a single director can pull off by himself. 4) Shingu Natsume himself said that Madhouse are the ones who contacted him to work on OPM S1. It varies from case to case, but generally speaking, Studios matter, and matter a lot at that.
@TheMightySilverback_5 жыл бұрын
@@arcverson4963Hi!, this is all very interesting information, would you be able to do me a big solid and perhaps source some of it? I have been unable to find the production committee listings for OPM S1 (and indeed the majority of shows) or any quotes from Natsume stating that Madhouse were the one's who approached him. I do agree that, regardless, Canipa's video was laughably bad.

Bones is doing the best work right now of all the studios imo. The last few years from them have been very consistent. Mappa has several shows that have been good - Shingeki no Bahamut, two of the three Garo's (The first and the third), Yuri on Ice, Kids on the Slope, Zombieland Saga, Ushio to Tora, and Dororo seems to be going very well right now from what I hear (I've yet to watch it).
@oposdeo5 жыл бұрын
Bones is consistently excellent. I see bones, I watch. Madhouse is less consistent, but I generally still give all of their things a shot, they are often great. Kyo Ani is pretty, so I watch most of their shows that aren't severely not for me. Trigger is Trigger, I'm watching everything they make. As someone who doesn't like to waste time trying bad shows, I like using studio reputation to make educated guesses for quality.
@Alienrun4 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't it be more accurate to use creators instead of studios? (Then again I'd imagine most creators stick to the same studio anyways so I guess that's whatever! lol)
@oposdeo4 жыл бұрын
@@Alienrun I'm not too familiar with many individual creators. Sometimes I do though, like good ol' Ikuhara. There are a lot of studios though that seem to have a very distinct style and consistent qualities, likely as a result of their tight-knit staff and shared direction. You never really know with a company like A1-pictures because they are a big company that just like, does animation work. If anything, you can expect something unremarkable.

Perhapes with A-1 shows failing apart it has something to do with the super demanding production cycles of the studio limiting what they can do with a show and just how much pre-planing and course correction is possable. just a thought though.
