An extra skinny version of Tuba Skinny. Shaye blows my mind with her command of so many instruments. And Erika’s singing is sublime.

I am so glad you were there to capture this on film! What a great video of “Traditional New Orleans Jass”

'Lonesome Road' was composed in 1927 by Gene Austin and Nathaniel Shilkret . Many bands play it much more slowly, as if reverentially, but I like the way Shaye has always made it a stomper - with Tuba Skinny too. Also, most bands play it in Eb, whereas Shaye prefers Bb, presumably to suit Erika's voice. It is on Tuba Skinny's Album 'Six Feet Down', released in 2010.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe & Rhiannon Giddens both sing it at a fair old pace.

@@Stewart2240 Good point. I wonder whether Erika's inspiration for this one was indeed Rosetta Tharpe. Thank goodness we are offered a variety of tempos. I once met a man who disliked Tuba Skinny's playing of 'Lonesome Road' and 'Lily of the Valley' because, he said 'They play them far too quickly and this shows a lack of reverence'. Fortunately such critics are rare.

@@PopsCoffee "lack of reverence" ha ha, songs are objects of worship and we must perform them slowly at all times.

What I see in the approach Shaye uses with respect to old material is her humility and respect for earlier performers. I'd guess she would set a faster or slower tempo if she felt the song would benefit, but she sets the tone for Tuba Skinny by starting with great respect for how earlier performers handled a tune.

This is a wonderful performance all round. The Piano An Orchestra In itself. Such drive from all !. A marvellous performance !. Rare for three performers to “Gel so well”. Quite splendid !. Many thanks and greetings from Scotland 🏴 x.

Great performance by Shaye, Erika and Craig. Should like very much to visit the ambiance of your performance in "Starlight Lounge" when you are performing there!! The right place to be, but ..........................The Netherlands are very pity too far away!!

Ah…..I get it……Not everybody loves music. But this video shows something I don’t understand. Or maybe the camera work is misleading??! Anyway, how does one walk past that trio as if one has no idea of how terrific those players are? I would be obliged to sit and listen. It appears people walk past, oblivious to the show ?,? These musicians are treasures. I wish good things would happen for them.

Better than Erica, Shaye and Craigh performing this song would be the complete Skinny Tuba.

learn enough about your camera to adjust it for these conditions.
