In a big picture, Thailand is beautiful and most of her people are kind... The problem is that of struggling to control/hold on to the power at the top by the far-right groups (backed by the Army and rich/elite few) threatened by the new immerging democracy groups. Basically, the political situation in Thailand has been very unstable for over 85+ years. On many occasions, people were accused, jailed, and killed by the dictatorship governments( they got to be in the power by the coup d'etat, including the current government 4+ years ago). As you see in the clip, the beaten hangman is based on the true story of Thammasat University Massacre in 1976, please search in google) However, with the craziness in Thai politic, the weird thing is that tourism in Thailand only has little impact. So most visitors are not aware of this situation.
