Growing up in the era, I'll be the first to admit, I took shows like Rap City & Yo! MTV Raps for granted. I just always assumed things would continue to be as great as they were. The nostalgia these tapes bring back breaks my heart, honestly. There are a few still carrying the torch (Joey Bada$$ comes to mind), but the soul, the passion, the art of Hip Hop has largely evolved into something unrecognizable. It's like a parody of itself

Iam with you man. Late 80s baby. But unlike in the 90s, the good rappers today who nake quality music dont get pushed like in the 90s. Joey badass, logic, run the jewels, skyzoo, denzel curry, J.cole. kendrick lamar, mac miller, curren$y, big krit, lupe fiasco etc. Still holding it down for hip hop. Veterans like nas, snoop dogg, jay-z, common, busta rhymes, big boi from outkast, etc. Still holding it down for the old skopl with drops time to time.

That’s because the art form that was created by black Americans has been co-opted by the dominant society. Now everyone is doing it. Even Hispanic people, are claiming that they created hip-hop 50-50 with black Americans, which is one of the biggest lies in American history.

I did security for an episode of Rap City, when they came and were a part of a pool party in my home city of Alexandria, VA. Big Lez and Joe Claire were the hosts, and I remember Dru Hill doing one of their first national performances on the episode, and Shaggy performed a song, as well ("I am pretty sure, that it was "It Wasn't Me"). I got to choose a song to go to break on by Big Lez, and when I chose "Shook Ones Pt 2" by Mobb Deep: she backed it UP on me...one of my favorite young adult memories of them, all (I was in my early-20s). All of my neighborhood buddies saw the episode (I missed it), and told me that they saw me dancing on Big Lez' butt. What a wonderful Time, to be young :0). Salute, to Rap City: ...I also got to meet "The Mayor" Chris Thomas in the VIP party area, at a Wizards game, and he did The Mayor-Dance, for me.
