Wow!!! Joe Cleezy! Joe Claire was one of the people who helped me make a decision to attend an HBCU. I remember he went to Morgan State and talked about the college experience a lot. Huge shout out to Joe!

Joe Clair and Big Lez era of Rap City was the best. I didn't care too much for Rap City The Basement. I miss when Joe and Lez would go to different cities and interview rappers. I remember coming home from school and switching back and forth between Rap City and Video Music Box on channel 31 (for my New York heads) Can't forget Rap City Top 10, Video Soul, Video Vibrations, Teen Summit. Plus Hot 97 and New York Undercover at the same time. The 90's was unforgettable

@Dewayne Junior Rap City was 2 and a half hours in during Joe and Lez time
@bxdale832 жыл бұрын
@Dewayne Junior Bruh. The example you gave is exactly what Rap City Pre-Basement did. They always mixed underground with commercial hip hop. The Basement didn't start that. I watched the Basement too and the only difference was they filmed it in a basement and freestyled in the booth. They showed the same videos. They showed mainstream and non mainstream videos since its inception. That's what separated it from Yo MTV Raps and (to me) made it better. There were videos that aired on Joe/Lez Rap City that was underground as fuck and they only played it once or twice that I've discovered on KZbin 20 years later
@bxdale832 жыл бұрын
@Dewayne Junior My initial comment was made because of my memories of Rap City and that era. I said I like Joe/Lez Rap City more than "Tha Basement". You like the Basement era. Ok cool. You're going way off track. Hip Hop wasn't as big during their time on Rap City but Big Tigger "Tha Basement" era was and remember that but that's not what my comment was about. I remember the type of videos they played and you're not gonna tell me otherwise. All I'm doing is reminiscing on the 90's era. If you prefer "Tha Basement" then that's cool
@bxdale832 жыл бұрын

Ahhhh the good ol’days…. I published a small local magazine in the early 2000’s. I called the BET office in D.C. to get press passes for red carpet access to the BET Awards. Whoever answered the phone said , such and such handles that, call this number… She gave me a number to the LA office and they hooked me up with red carpet access… Life was so simple back then 😂

Shid! I'd say Big Tigger would likely edit episodes when he would out rap some artists in the basement. I remember the song, "Snake" he did with R. Kelly. Homie went hard. The 90's were the best for Hip-Hop. We Teen Summit, Rap City, Cida's World, Yo MTv Raps, 106 and Park, HIts from the Streets, and more. What a good time.

Funny, Cuz I always hated Joe Claire back in those days and thought he was a corn ball. Especially around Wu, Mobb Deep, Onyx etc. Dude tried so hard to make us laugh and be “down” with the harder rappers (puse) but lookin at it in hindsight, dude brought some great interviews and was a part of hiphop history. Salute to Joe Cleezy!
