Southern rock! You never cease to amaze me young man- your open mindedness is refreshing- this world could use more of that- your reactions and interpretations are usually spot on- and even if not, it doesn’t matter- music is what you make of it in your own mind. Keep rocking young man! And Happy New Year

You have to do two more Lynyrd Skynyrd reactions. 1. Live version of “Free Bird” at Oakland California on July 2, 1977, it’s a football stadium and 3 months before the plane crash. 2. “Call me the Breeze” before 1977… I was fortunate to see them in concert 3 times before the plane crash. It’s Southern Rock and Tuesday is a girl…

The original Lynyrd Skynyrd is simply amazing. The sad thing about this group is 85% of its fans over look most of their best songs. Your typical fans usually know Freebird, SImple Man, That Smell, Curtis Loew, Tuesdays Gone, and etc. Those are great songs and all, but the true gems are hidden. I would recommend, or would love to see you review songs such as; All I Can Do Is Write About It, Georgia Peaches, Searching, Four Walls Of Raiford, Was I Right Or Wrong, Things Going On, Cry For The Bad Man, Mr. Banker, Cheating Woman, and etc. If you search you will see NO ONE has ever reviewed these songs. Reviewers always review your typical radio played Skynyrd songs. Lynyrd Skynyrd has a TON of amazing songs that most are unaware of,..... "many thanks and keep up the great work,...." (I can tell you are moved by this group,...do yourself a favor and take my advice. I assure that you will not be disappointed) "I would have never made it to 43 with out Lynyrd Skynyrd in my life,...."

These boys were the real deal. Ronnie Van Zandt was the lead singer; he wrote the songs together with Ed King (lead guitar). And yes, they are soulful. Mostly working class kids from the bad parts of town, putting their lives into their music. The real point of all this is that we are all human, and though we come from different experiences we share the human experience: we laugh, we cry, we love, we win and we lose, and therefore we can all relate to the songs that sing about it all.

My all time favorite live performance by any band that I've ever witnessed, be it in person or on video. Yes, Gary Rossington's solo is sweet, although Allen Collins' solo is one for the books, and to think that Allen was only 18 years of age when he wrote this classic.

You're definitely right; this does have some Gospel overtones. I know that Ronnie grew up singing in church, and I know that Gary grew up in church. I bet they probably all did. They were all in their early 20s, Allen and Gary (two of the guitarists) were probably 20...MAYBE 21 when this album was recorded. These boys were hard partiers then, but most Rock stars at that age are. Their souls are for sure revealed in many of their songs. I just love this band so much. I was probably 5 when this song came out, and I would cry as a little girl when this was played. Not sure why this song speaks to me so. Anyway, I love your reactions - you're real. Keep doing what you're doing. They are considered Southern Rock, but they do have many, many fast, rocking songs. Needle and the Spoon and That Smell are both kind of anti-drug songs, since this band were trying to clean up their act as they got older.

In the summer of 1977, members of the rock band Aerosmith inspected an airplane they were considering chartering for their upcoming tour-a Convair 240 operated out of Addison, Texas. Concerns over the flight crew led Aerosmith to look elsewhere-a decision that saved one band but doomed another. The aircraft in question was instead chartered by the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, who were just setting out that autumn on a national tour that promised to be their biggest to date. On October 20, 1977, however, during a flight from Greenville, South Carolina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s tour plane crashed in a heavily wooded area of southeastern Mississippi during a failed emergency landing attempt, killing band-members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines as well as the band’s assistant road manager and the plane’s pilot and co-pilot. Twenty others survived the crash.

My Buddy, one of my all time best friends, was "Spanky" (E. J. Kerrigan, he was head of security for Skynyrd for over 20 years. I tried to assist him in getting sober in the late 90's, but unfortunately he relapsed and died drunk while doing heroin, which he never did, he was just going through a horrible time of life and we could not reach him). Many times I was fortunate to be back stage with these guys, and many times at the hotels with them. They partied like no others, bowls of cocaine and unlimited beers and whiskey....... This song ~Tuesday was his girl. They broke up, ("she had to be free.." thus Tuesday is in the wind, gone) but he has to carry on, and he is hurting (trying to ride the blues away) and trying to kick the sadness of being alone again. .... Be well Bro!

@@justjudijjb3455 I haven't talk about this is years ~ It Truly is indeed. Its why Spanky Gravitated back into my life as he was trying to get clean and sober (we originally knew each other from HS in Potomac Md). I had 15 years sober at that point, now I have over 35 yrs. (he knew everyone in the business, so one night we went to see the Allman Brothers. As always he had carte blanche and we ended up parking right next to their tour bus, back stage at Jiffy Lube Arena in Va., Greg Allman asked me hours later after the show, if that was my little Honda with the AA stickers mixed in with all the Grateful Dead ones parked next to their bus. Allman would remember me a year later when we were back stage at Merriweather Post and pulled me aside like from 2AM to 3AM just talking recovery and life, Really big guy with a soft voice, who actually just loved people). With Spanky he was a stone cold alcoholic, so after being clean for a year and a half, he went missing one weekend. We were all worried and that Sunday Night I got the call from Mont Co Police to come to the hospital and ID his body. He passed out in the tub passed out and then drowned. He ran into someone that gave him a bag of heroin, and since Spanky was already drunk he did a few lines. He had no tolerance and it killed him. ~ You know, I agree, most of us are very sensitive, but there is a ton of pain that reaches out to their community, Family, Friends, etc that have to watch a person go down those roads and not be able to assist them. You know the deal, the person has to really want this life, no one can drag them down the path to recovery....... Wow, Thanks Judi, you bought up many memories that I can't even write.... Be Well, Please!!!!!!

Gospel, Blues, R&B, Southern Rock, Jazz all have that soulful undertone. They all have the same cultural origin. Call it passion, soul, God, whatever, but those kinds of music have it. Yeah, You got it! I just watch your first two reactions to Skynyrd, and you have gone from a complete novice to really understanding why this band was so great they literally helped create a whole new genre of music, Southern Rock, with a unique blend of Rock, Blues, Country, Southern Gospel. You are absolutely right, it's how it makes you feel.

Loved the reaction, man! Just wanted to throw in my two cents about the meaning of the lyrics. Based on my several years of reading about Skynyrd and the backstory of a lot of the band's songs, Tuesday's Gone was written about the band signing to a record label when they finally found commercial success and being forced to constantly tour and adopt more of a "business" approach both to their material and daily lives. Ronnie Van Zant is talking about the carefree days of his youth being "gone with the wind" and his new life taking over while reflecting on those days that he once had. Thus "Tuesday's Gone." So you were actually spot-on when you said it sounded like the song was about starting a new life. Really, the lyrics can mean whatever you want them to mean. As with all great songs, the lyrics are meant to speak to each listener individually :)
