The whole album that this comes from, Rust in Peace, is next level!! Megadeth has had different lineups over the years, as have plenty of other bands, but I think this was them at their best and is their masterpiece! This would be one of my "deserted island" albums for sure! Plenty of other great Megadeth songs to check out but your next could be the one that actually follows this one on the album...Hangar 18. FYI this song is generally considered the greatest song of the genre for its complexity, groove, and structure. Back in the day it was the standard all other thrash metal was measured against. The intro alone is one of the best pieces of music written and never gets old. Then it’s usually Master of Puppets. Obviously taste is subjective.

Nick Menza auditioned for his spot in Megadeth with this song (he was already a drum tech for the band), the song was incomplete at the time and Nick just winged it; pretty much everything he played in the audition version of "Holy Wars" made the album. Nick had tons of natural talent and a good ear for music, his father Don played saxophone on Henry Mancini's "Pink Panther" theme. Menza, Friedman, Ellefson and Mustaine were on fire and focused on "Rust In Peace".

In my opinion you could not have started with a better song as an introduction to this amazing band. I know others have their favorite lineups but for me this is easily the greatest Megadeth lineup and album they ever made. This came out right after I graduated high school and it was a constant on my stereo. I saw this lineup in concert six times and loved every show. Hell it was at the concert for this album I was so stoked at the show that I got in the mosh pit even though I had a broken bone in my foot. 🤘🏻. Their mascot Vic Rattlehead is part of my heavy metal tattoo sleeve. When you were getting excited during the introduction I was just like “oh just wait for the solo!”

Over 10 years ago I saw Dave do one of the cooler things I've seen at a concert. This was at the Filmore Auditorium in Denver. The security guards were treating one of the fans in the front very roughly and he saw what was going on. Middle of the song he stops and says hey you ASSHOLES you better leave him alone or you're gonna have a big problem. The guards kept on so he had the band walk off stage. After a couple of minutes he came out and pointed to the two guards and said to the staff get rid of them or we're not coming back. He got them removed came back out and ranted about them for a minute and re-started the show. It seems weird to say you liked seeing a band walk off stage mid show but he was sticking up for his fans. Much respect to Dave Mustaine for that.

Megadetb is the band that sold me on Heavy/Thrash Metal back in the Fall of 1987. One of my classmates had a Walkman and Megadeth's 2nd album "Peace Sells" and I got to listen to it on the bus to an Away Game with my Freshman Football Team. And I was immediately sold and hooked on this Thrash Metal scene. Why? Well, as you can tell, Megadeth uses a lot of layered guitars and tempo changes that even Metallica didn't do. And I was like, "This shit is great." I was 13 at the time. I'm 50 now and still jamming out to nothing but Heavy Metal. Megadeth's newest album is pretty damn good. It's got a little bass solo on the 3rd track that is the deepest bass solo I've ever heard in a Metal album. It rocked my Sub when I played it the first time. One thing about Metal that a lot of non fans probably don't understand or know about Metal is that its roots are Classical Music and The Blues. So you'll often see Metal fans enjoying both of those genres by themselves. But when directly implemented into Metal, it becomes pretty magical. Check out the song "Above the Sky" by Majestica (Tommy Johannson's band). It's literally got everything in it that Metal fans love. You listen to that and you'll realize why Metal fans love the genre.

Love Megadeth. I have seen them a few times live, last was in Sept. Just as good then as when I saw them 30 years ago.

Every time I watch a good first reaction vid I feel like I'm watching myself hear it for the first time. The spawn of Thrash metal, what a time it was to be alive.

The best thing that happened to Mustaine was leaving Metallica....

I would argue that him being kicked out of Metallica is the best thing that happened for us metal fans because it gave us Megadeth, but it's hard to say it was best thing for Dave to be booted out of what would go on to be one of the biggest, most popular bands on the planet. In either case he did go on to form one of the best thrash bands out there, so it wasn't a total loss.

One of the first bands I saw live, awesome. In my opinion, peace sells is their best album. All the tracks on that album are great

Like them or not, this is hands down one of the greatest metal songs of all time. Marty and Nick formulated the greatest Megadeth lineup without question.

Alice Cooper- Billion Dollar Babies( 73) Dave Mustaine huge Alice fan! Equally as influential as Sabbbath. In fact both Ozzy & Dio were friends with Alice with mutual respect. Essential reaction.
