Knife party is probably my favorite deftones song because of how beautifully disconcerting it is. I take the imagery quite literally and have always imagined a group of people for whom sex and pain/violence are intertwined, bleeding each other so much that they are floating in a room full of blood (float here forever/can't touch the floor). For further recommendations I would suggest Digital Bath.

Another thing I love about this song is how long the drum fills are. It's easy to get mesmerized by Chino's voice and the hard driving guitars, but if you localize the drums in your mind for a second, it is absolutely insane how much riffing is going on back there. Incredibly jazz influenced and technical.

In all my time listening to this song I've never heard him say "you are ever sweet" I re-listened to the end of the song a few times and I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually say that. You can always hear the 'and' in 'anemic and sweet.'

Chino somewhat famously writes very vague, poetic lyrics that he just likes the sound of. He loves leaving the songs broadly open to interpretation, he says he doesn't even know what it means half the time. Is this literally about sex and murder? Does the knife represent his secret? Does it simply represent pain, or danger? It's up to the listener. One thing I think is fairly clear, what ever they're doing is causing a state of euphoria.

I'd definitely recommend "Xerces" "Street Carp" "Pink Maggit" "Beauty School" and "Cherry Waves" by Deftones. I'd also recommend "Ever (Foreign Flag)" "Blvd. Nights" and "Ever Since WW1" by Chino's side project, Team Sleep. Chino gives off a dreamy performance with those songs, so it's definitely worth checking out. I love your format for reactions. I think it’s good you don’t stop the track because you get a better sense of it if you don’t. For someone who doesn’t know Deftones, you do really well to ‘feel’ what they are about. You pick up on the sexual element each time you react to Deftones and it makes me happy to see a non-fan see deeper into the band and lyrics, and not just take it at face value. aw man, tbh,, music for me a is a huge part of my life. The 'goosebump' feeling really does a lot for me. If I hear a song which makes me feel something, it really means it's special. These types of feelings, you really can't get when listening to hip hop. I mean god damn, last night I was listening to Desire by Years & Years you know? I always look for that deep feeling element when listening to songs, whether they have screaming, growling, spoken word etc etc.
