0:55 Not really. Been driving a fixed gear for about 3 years and I've never felt the need of skidding every 10 seconds. And that's commuting to work everyday, riding on alleycats and using the bike almost daily. It's all about how you drive, how focused on the enviroment you are and how to think fast if there's an upcoming and imminent fatality.

I agree you can live without skidding, however, if you really push everything during a race through the city or really just want to be quick and able to approach intersections faster because you know you can stop, I can tell you that skidding is really something you want to be able to do!

what fixed gear ratio do u use or recommend for easier skidding? im running a 48:16 right now

@@Raphson haha yeah bro i think it was the standard one it came with, i heard the less teeth on the drive train and the bigger the cog makes skidding easier? is that true?
@Raphson4 жыл бұрын
The lower that ratio the easier to skid. So a bigger rear cog or a smaller gear at your crank will both make it easier. But also you'll pedal a lot more. So it's s tradeoff. Also, leaning far forewards helps. Or using a skid enhancing device like I did in my latest vid.

Sounds okay to me! It's a quite light ratio so you won't hit top speeds but should be easier to skid with a lower ratio too. 17 skid patches is very nice too!
@iron2valorant7114 жыл бұрын
i cant skid still even though im doing everything you say in the video pls help! my gear ratio is 56:16
@Raphson4 жыл бұрын
Well you've got an extremely heavy ratio of 3.5. that doesnt help. Try lean forward over your bars super much, up till when you almost fall. If you do that, you've taken off almost all weight of your rear wheel, therefore making it easier to skid. Also, try to do this when the surface is wet, less friction is key to learn. Finally, focus on pulling your front foot mostly, your rear foot has to push but our feet are used to that anyways.
@iron2valorant7114 жыл бұрын
alright thanks for the tips!

@Raphson4 жыл бұрын
@@gustafvngas4882 Thing is that yes indeed I was showing off in this intro, but removing your brakes and just skidding actually helps you gain so much traffic awareness. You cannot just ride up to a traffic light and if it gets red you brake and done. No, you have to anticipate when you are 50 meters away that it might get red so either accelerate or start stopping. Skidding is your emergency brake, most of the work happens by just slowing your feet down gradually. Fact is, I have not fallen or crashed since I have been riding fixie (about 7 years now), and the traffic awareness has helped me a lot to understand what is going on and react in the best ways when I drive a car too.

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
