Yes Mathew it was a very popular jetty for fishing. It gave the onshore angler a chance to get out to some deep water and maybe bag a Kingfish

Thank you for taking us on a tour of the old jetty. I remember going out on the jetty as a kid when the quarry was running and watching the gravel roll out on the conveyor belt to the end where the ships would dock. And my dad taking me in his truck to get a load of gravel from the quarry. A lot of my school friends dads worked there and lived in the bhp houses that are sitting, wasting away now. So so sad. Oh and the jetty also, when the ferry stopped there back in the 80's on it's way to KI and its new home. I have lost count how many times I went out there, and still can see it running and busy there all in my mind. Heartbreaking to see it falling into the sea and waste away like this. Another thing down there with the quarry that's just all long forgotten memories, rotting away.

All that beautiful timber just sitting there.

Yeah What sort of timber ?
@kennyscott10895 жыл бұрын
Coolhand99au Don't know but it would be good Aussie hardwood and beautifully seasoned. It would mill up lovely. Imagine benchtops done with it.

@@kennyscott1089 a local bloke who lives down there has made some chopping boards etc out of some pieces of the walkway. They are gorgeous. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some.

@@Coolhand99au I'll ask my dad he'll know. He has had a lot to do with the quarry etc down there. He used to run the ACI sand mine where Carrickalinga Sands is now, back in the late 60's to mid 80's when they moved it to Mt Compass.

Went there yesterday it’s sad looking at it the peace at the start that was not connected to the land is about to fall in a month or so

Yeah it is a bit sad to watch it decay. It was a great fishing jetty for the public. I guess just too costly to maintain

Awesome Vid,thx for Posting. Shits me how it cost $6.9M to demolish/decontaminate Pt Stanvac when,they could have left it like Rapid and spent $3.9M and build a new Jetty like Rapid.
@Coolhand99au6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mate Yeah I agree that they should have kept a lot of the old jetty's in SA to look after the land based angler
@jimajams70804 жыл бұрын
It is not called Rapid. We locals never called/call it that. It's either Rapid Bay or the Bay. And you are a 100% right what you wrote about what they should of done

Such a waste of a prime recreational fishing. jetty
@Coolhand99au7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was But the old jetty was starting to fall apart and become unsafe I guess for the bean counters the cost was too high

@@Coolhand99au that's why they never fixed it, cost. Some of the pylons are no thicker than a man's wrist down the bottom. It was getting deadly to keep going sadly. It was an awesome jetty when it was running though. I miss going out there exploring. .
