I've tried most of the MIDI software out there, both standalone and VST plugin varieties and have to say that Rapid Composer has a depth the others simply don't come close to. That said, such depth comes at a price which this video articulates very succinctly i.e. you need to devote a lot of time negotiating what is a steep learning curve. There is a steadily growing User Guide available from within the program and an enthusiastic User Forum over at KVR but these too only really scratch the surface.

These are helpful videos to get tips. Thanks so much. 6:20, yep, I've tried those other VSTs too. RC is another level of complexity and completeness. Lots of access to music theory. I believe the developer does not know any music theory. Which is actually perfect, since he approaches it as a CS problem. RC is a little unstable but he's making very fast progress. I'd say people think "Another DAW??". My workflow is to use RC, grab the midi for Reaper, tweak it with my sounds plus keep the RC "template". Make mods for different parts, import the midi, rinse repeat. It's tedious, but a lot less tedious than hand entered notes across multiple tracks...and then wanting to try a different progression or key! I'm thinking of testing Synfire too, it looks quite amazing but is different altogether as it abstracts away notes. People are starting to call these programs song prototyping environments, I think that fits, synfire coined that I beleive.

The lack of information could be why this software has not been widely adopted. I do not mind deep diving but a bit of help from either the developer or content creators would go a long way before I spend the money. Thanks for your talk!
