Would be useful if pressing Regenerate made the player also start from beat 1 as an option, instead of playing on from position.

I am so sorry that I didn't respond to your comment earlier. KZbin doesn't provide any notification when you receive a comment. The author has to go to the YOuTube Studio to find out about any comments. Maybe I haven't set up the correct notification option? Anyway, chord mapping works like this: take any triad (major, minor, diminished, augmented) in any key. It consists of 3 notes - bass, third, fifth. Chord mapping gives those 3 notes the numbers 1,2,3. So a C major triad will be mapped like this: C=1, E=2, G=3. The bast way to understand this in Rapid Composer is to create a 1 bar phrase in C Major, consisting of the notes C4,E4,G4. Double click on that phrase to go to the phrase Editor. At the top of the Phrase Editor, make sure to select Chord Relative mapping. The right click on the notes to see how they are mapped to the numbers 1,2,3. Play around with the Note and Octave offsets to see how they adjust the exact pitch of each chord note (i.e. 1,2,3). I hope this helps.

@@servinggodthroughmusic5996 No apology necessary. If I understand you correctly, designating notes as 1, 2 or 3 will produce the root, 3rd or 5th in any Major, Minor, augmented or diminished triad. The other chord and scale tones need to be designated by using the offset and octave settings?

Enjoyed the video. I'd like to be able to blend various scales across a set of chords but I think RC restricts you to just one scale being active at any one time? Most improvisors don't just stick to the one scale over a given harmonic progression/set of changes.
@robinbergsohn5750Ай бұрын
This KZbin relates to your goal: 8 Ways to Use Pentatonic Scales Over 7th Chords. It's easy to do in RapidComposer. As an example, create a new project in C major. Drag in a simple Arpeggiator phrase from the Phrase Generator ( you can do this with any type of phrase). Right click on the phrase and click on the Chord tab at the top. Click on the "Use scale" box. Change the scale to Minor Pentatonic (just as an example). You can also change the root if you want. There are 2 other options which I don't understand yet: Magnet and Lock to Scale. You can experiment to see how they work. These options might only apply to the "Use chord" checkbox. Perhaps when you choose a chord that has a note(s) outside your scale, it will make shore to restrict the chord notes to the given scale. I'm not sure ! Hope this helps and forgive me for taking so long to respond to your excellent question.

I've tried most of the MIDI software out there, both standalone and VST plugin varieties and have to say that Rapid Composer has a depth the others simply don't come close to. That said, such depth comes at a price which this video articulates very succinctly i.e. you need to devote a lot of time negotiating what is a steep learning curve. There is a steadily growing User Guide available from within the program and an enthusiastic User Forum over at KVR but these too only really scratch the surface.

Thx for this series, cause I am just looking into Melodya to create melodies. Will it work together with Scaler where I create chord progressions? Or should I buy RapidComposer instead of Melodya alone?
@servinggodthroughmusic59962 жыл бұрын
Hi - thanks for your comment and questions. Let me try to lay out some foundation regarding melodies and chord progressions. If we start with a melodic idea, then our chord progression will have to fit the melody. On the other hand, if we start with a chord progression (by dragging it from Scaler into Rapid Composer), then the melody will need to conform with the Scaler progression. Of course, a melody can contain non-chord tones (passing notes, neighbor notes, chord extension notes like the 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th), but it still needs to conform in some way to the chord progression. (It’s fascinating to consider the 3rd approach, which is to write a lyric first and to write a melody that conforms to the words. I think a lot of greatest song writers generally took this approach.) To a large degree, Jazz improvisation is the art of learning (and being able to spontaneously play) melody notes (i.e. Scales) over a given chord progression. We want the music composition software to do the same thing. This means that Melodya would have to interpret chords from the Scaler progression and determine the chord notes of each chord in that progression. Melodya doesn’t do that, but Rapid Composer certainly does. You can drag a midi chord progression directly onto the Melodya grid, and you can use certain functions like “split long notes”, “connecting notes” and “Rhythm Displacement” to alter your original chord progression. But it’s not going to create a melody from a chord progression. So I will recommend buying Rapid Composer. The work flow is simple: just drag the midi chord progression from Scaler (or any other source) onto RC’s main window. Be sure to drag the midi to the top of RC’s main window (Composition window). As soon as you drop it, the import dialogue window opens with loads of options. Usually, the only thing you have to check is the Scale drop down box. If Scaler determines that your progression is in A minor, then select A minor from the drop-down box. Otherwise, RC might interpret the progression to be the relative C major scale. Once that import is complete, you will have dizzying number of “Generators” at your fingertips to creates various types of melodies. if you want to compose a melody with Melodya, and then write a chord progression under it, use can begin with Melodya and then copy/paste into RC’s main window. Then convert the “melody phrase” to absolute notes, and use the auto harmonize function. This will give you a new progression and you can go from there. By the way, Orb Composer Suite has the ability to import chord progressions and create melodies, bass lines and arps from that progression. I tried it once or twice and had no luck. Unlike Rapid Composer, Orb’s ability to “interpret” (figure out the harmony) a chord progression seemed to work only with simple triad progressions. However, when Orb creates it’s own progression, the Melody generator has a setting for “lyric” melodies. I really liked the results. If money is no object, I recommend it. But I found the workflow to be very awkward. Captain Chords creates some really nice AI melodies as well but there is no import function at all. You can record a chord progression with your keyboard or even using Scaler, but again the workflow is very awkward. For me, the process of composing with these tools is both frustrating and fun. I end up going down a lot of rabbit holes. I would probably write a lot more music if I learned how to sing, play a little guitar, and spent most of my time writing lyrics. But there is a certain fascination I get from learning and using Rapid Composer. Best of luck Adrian on your music composition journey.

Check out a recent post on KZbin from HollywoodFloss1: "More Melody Sauce 2 and Scaler 2 Fire" I liked the sound of the results he was getting from Melody Sauce. Notice how he had to tell Melody Sauce what chords to use. Not a bid deal for a simple progression. Melody Sauce only gives options for major and minor triads. I'm not sure if any of the melodies it generates use chord extensions, but you could certainly tweak the melody to add them. Rapid Composer is obviously a much deeper program but sometimes less is more.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just met ableton. I reached it through AUM, a daw for ipad that syncs with ableton via bluetooth, or wifi. In simple terms, you can send the midi information via ports between the two devices. of effects and well infinite possibilities, AUM has sequencers, which play in individual sections the notes at different beats, volume and tone at the same time and in independent buses you can do amazing things with these two apps together, also AUM has more apps that are synchronized with ableton this includes the metronome and many other things, I need to download kontakr libraries to start playing and create between these two apps I share this information because I think you can do great things, there are also apps in which you have all the chords, already done with countless harmonies, and you can send everything to ableton and well combined this with the expression map and the artu culacion is a big bang greetings from California sorry for the spelling mistakes I use a translator because I'm Latino my English is very basic blessings and I'll keep watching your videos it occurred to me to tell you this because I think you have more possibilities between an ipad and a Mac for what between 2 pc but that's my personal opinion
