String pushing a stick with something sharp and pointy on it= archery!

I bought a crossbow when I had shoulder surgery because I could not pull my bow back and I was NOT going to miss archery season. The next year I had my son use it to get him hooked on archery and to get him off the computer games. Now he uses a mission compound . Now my 70 year old dad uses it so he can still get in the woods. He is still waiting for his dream buck. (I think he is just sleeping out there)lol. So with all that said, I believe a crossbow is archery just as much as a vertical bow. Great video.

I agree the more hunters the better. To me the main advantage of a crossbow over a compound is the lack of movement. You just point it and pull the trigger like a rifle. Drawing the bow back when your right on top of the deer is one of the most exciting parts to me. I’m sticking with a compound but I hope to get my dad to use a crossbow this year.

Lawrence Archery Totally agree. When a deer is at 15 yards and you get you full draw without them knowing it’s a special thing indeed

I agree with you guys. I don’t personally use one but also don’t have a problem with the people that do. I just enjoy shooting compound more than I would enjoy shooting a crossbow. Now the real controversy, no beers on this weeks rapid fire Friday. Good demonstration of saddle safety :-)

No beer money... it’s gear buying season.

Way too many negative comments on this one...as always great video guys!

Side note, are you all planning to try out the heavier ranch fairy style arrows this year? They seem to be a trending for sure.
@HuntAppalachia14 жыл бұрын
I believe Jared already shoots a heavier arrow. I just shoot whatever arrows I find in the woods at the 3D range. 😁😁

Totally agree they ain't for me but I'm not against them. I'm from Ohio we were on of the first to legalize crossbows and we still have one of the best deer heads in America! If you don't believe me look at the record books.

Interesting topic. Elitists also irritate me. Mostly because, in the end, they define what is sporting or correct based on their preferences and then broadcast as if they own the definition. Examples too numerous to mention but I will give you one: Hunter A tells hunter B it is cheating to use scentlok and ozonics when B scratches out a spec of untrampled public land to hunt, while Hunter A has family property which he didnt buy with 8 stands designed so that he will always have the wind in his favor no matter the time of day or the direction of wind.

Yea I tend to lean towards doing whatever I know will piss off folks with an elitist attitude.

Disagree. If you can brace it on a shooting rest, it's not archery. It's not gun hunting either. It's something else. That doesn't mean I'm against crossbows... Because I'm not. But it's not archery.

You better talk to your baby boy Jared. He edits his vids to make it look like he’s saddle hunting with a compound. In reality it’s all corn piles and crossbows.

Interesting definition. I think it has some merit.

Its a bow. no advantage over vertical bow other than its a little easier to shoot.

I know exactly what you mean talking about fly fishing, lots and lots of elitist.

Crossbows are as much archery as compound bows or even recurves for that matter. It’s difficult no matter what. If you want real archery go cut down a tree for your bow, make arrows out of branches and sinew for your string. If you enjoy hunting and the outdoors I’ll use what I want when I can. It’s the experience not the method.
@HuntAppalachia14 жыл бұрын
Right on! I agree with ya!

I'm a fellow saddle hunter and like this channel, but I gotta say that I'm not a fan of the way this video is titled..."are crossbows really archery?" Crossbows are not "archery" and that fact isn't debatable. The title should be, "Should crossbows be allowed during archery season?", which is a matter of opinion and is the actual topic you guys are discussing.
@HuntAppalachia14 жыл бұрын
Well that’s the debate lol, some guys think so and others like yourself don’t. But you are correct this discussion is more about should they be allowed or not. The line gets blurry as technology increases that’s for sure.
@stickbowsniper4 жыл бұрын
@@HuntAppalachia1 My point is that "Archery" and "Crossbow Archery" are different sports and by definition have different rules about the equipment that qualifies for use. IMO it is misleading to simply say that crossbows are archery. They are "crossbow archery". Archery requires the bow string to be held under tension by the shooter...even if it is reduced tension like a compound bow. Crossbow tension is held entirely by the latch, not the user, and thus does not meet the definition of archery. I personally think crossbows are cool weapons, but I don't know anyone who shoots a crossbow and considers themselves an archer.

They shoot an arc and you still have to practice. They aren’t rifles!
