Note a. Intensity in practicing and Sleep is important to boost the process of learning b. 20 hours equal 40 minutes a day in 1 month. 3-part blueprint to get surprisingly good at any skills in just 20 hours: 1. Imagine a situation that would be a disaster without the skill you want to learn so you can figure out a set of sub-skills you need to work on. 2. Learn just enough to self-correct: Spend just enough time learning the theory and more time practicing the skill. Then you have more questions/obstructions, you go back to the books/resources to find specific answers for them. In order to be more efficient, you can use coaches, mentors etc... 3. Make a commitment to spend at least 20 hours to learn a new skill to push through the inevitable frustration at the beginning.

Decades ago, I set myself the challenge to learn all the nations of the world. What helped most was - using mnemonics to remember groups of nations. - using visuospatial memory which is essential to pin where a nation in on a continent. This technique gave me surprisingly quick results. I then used it to learn anatomy, and non visual stuff like math, with very good results. I cannot seem to get it to work for learning a language though.

Thanks for the video! Note: without a proper process you won't achieve results in 20 hours. Three part blueprint: 1. Imagine disaster. What set of skills, and sub-skills are needed in order to overcome failure? Get everything ready to learn them. 2. Know just enough. After learning the basics go to practice - execute what you learned. Then, acquire more knowledge to improve, if needed. Accelerate learning by reaching out mentors or coaches to get specific tips and rapid feedback while practicing. 3. Struggle and sleep. Structure short/intense practice periods followed by rest, and sleep (to encode and consolidate what we have learned). Try to practice 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening.

Learning a new programming language is similar to new natural language. You already know what are the most common data structures you will need, as well as conditional statements, loops etc. - learn enough to start. Then you can begin practicing every day (with, e.g., hackerrank) and filling the gaps in your knowledge. With stackoverflow and manuals you will be able to get the specific style of the language, making your skills more efficient. This is how I switched to Python from C++ within 2 weeks. Of course, it took longer to figure out the style differences, but I could already implement my projects in a new language.

I don't want to know how many hours I need to put in to be able to enjoy the skill. I want to know how many I need to put in to be able to turn the skill into a career? Lol. Because if it only took 20 hours of coding to be able to secure a job as a programmer, that would be incredible. But at the same time, I also don't want to put in 10,000 of coding just to be able to land a job as a programmer. So if someone could figure that amount hours out, that would be excellent 👍👌. Part of me feels like it's going to require more than 20, but I don't think just to be able to land a job that it would require 10,000 either. Someone needs to write a book on how many hours it takes to turn a skill into a career lol. Because if the answer was 20, that'd be incredible. I'm not talking about jobs that require college degrees, I'm talking about jobs that you can get with just simple paid certifications. I just can't imagine someone getting a programming certification and then going out and getting a coding job in just 20 hrs of work lol. If someone works at a gas station making $20,000 a year, and in 20 hrs can go from working at the gas station making $20k/year to getting a job making $50,000+/year as a programmer, that's just insane. I wish that were possible. I'd love to pick up a new skill, use that skill to get a certification, and use that certification to get a new job all in 20 hrs. That'd be incredible!!!! I just feel like there's a middle ground that's says it's somewhere in between 20 hrs and 10,000 lol. Because don't get me wrong, I would love to learn a new skill and change my current situation, I just don't know if that's going to happen in just 20 hours of dedicated work lol.

It all depends on what being 'surprised at how good you get means.' I don't care how you go about learning the piano, there is no way you could be 'astounded' at how good you've become after 20 hours. Just look at all those white and black keys. You have no control over what you're doing and won't for some time. The same goes with the Italian example. A few verbs and a bunch of directions is negligible in the scheme of learning another language. It only impresses someone with zero knowledge.
