As an older individual, I am deeply interested in this topic as i am trying to learn some tech topics later in life and I am concerned about the time aspect of my endeavor. I didn't read his book, but I did go to his website where he lays out in great detail the curriculum of his MIT challenge. He's an incredibly honest individual and shows you his final exams and grades. The results are, perhaps predictably, less than stellar. I took his numerical grades for almost all the courses (there were a few I couldn't tell what grade he assigned himself), and assigned letter grade to them based on a four point scale as follows: 90% - 100% A, 80% - 89% B, 70% -79% C, 60%-69% D, < 60% - Fail. The breakdown for 23 courses was as follows: A -2 ; B - 4 ; C - 10 ; D - 5 ; F - 2. Full grade point average for the entire course load: 1.96. It's a fair question to ask how well did he actually learn the material. If you went to an entry level tech company job with this background and performance level would you be overwhelmed? Would you even get a job offer? Note: I'm not denigrating his effort here. He completed a four year MIT computer science degree requirement in one quarter of the time at a minuscule fraction of the cost. That's to be lauded. I'm just wondering at what cost to his level of knowledge at that point. i think it's a legitimate question. EDITED TO ADD: The author of this video does a nice job of indirectly pushing back on the point of what I've written above. He states he's an engineer by training and only used 5% of what he learned in school, which though it also was my experience with an MBA, is still kind of shocking. I figured tech was different. The moral as always, watch the vid before commenting. HA!

I learnt more in 1 year in my first job as a coder than all of university. They don’t teach real tools and real skills at university. When pushed into the deep end, and given work you have to complete but no idea how to, but your pay check depends on results, boy you learn fast. I was like a sponge. I can see why entrepreneurs like Steve jobs , bill gates et al.. didn’t Goto university. 🤯

Think about it. Go to university to get a degree in architecture. Then get shocked because your degree isn't good enough to land you a job. Then take learning into your own hands and only after that landing a job. That experience is not uncommon. I know about similar instances in engineering and agricultural sciences. The worst is when you invest a lot of time and money to earn a post graduate degree and it's practically useless in terms of employment value. This kind of learning is definitely the future path. Web development is booming and many people follow this pattern with great success.

Did you know that Pac-Man wasnt always going to be called Pac-Man? The original Japanese version of the game was called "Pakkuman." This name came from the Japanese folk hero "Paku," who was well known for having a large appetite. The name also comes from the slang phrase paku-paku taberu, in which "paku-paku" is an onomatopoeia for the sound of a mouth opening and shutting quickly. The reason for the name change was because it was believed that when they imported the game to the United States that vandals would be likely to change the 'P' to an 'F,' forming a common expletive. Eventually they decided to use the American version's name, "Pac-Man", for the rest of the world. Wait...what was this thread about again?
