You nailed the toughest thing... getting to the eddy with the full boat! Beautiful!!!

Thank you! I find it's something people rarely film so there aren't a lot of examples on other paddling videos

All whitewater action. Very nice video. Highly competent crew. Having paddled whitewater for nearly 45 years, I’m amazed that eastern paddlers don’t want to put in bow and stern floatation or seem to tie down their gear - it virtually eliminates a destructive pin. And I’m still awaiting seeing tandems use backpaddling strokes for maneuvering down congested rapids - you ship less water and have more maneuver options. Beautiful country. Keep up the good work

Did the Dumoine about 15 years ago. It was our first whitewater trip. Lots of fun. Super high water levels when we did it. I see the bridge at the start has not improved…

What an phenomenal video, really enjoyed it. Side note, Canoe Eater is the scariest name I've heard for a rapid.
@VoyageurTripper3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! And I totally agree - especially with the broken canoe nearby

Just found your channel on Denis' show. Dumoine looks beautiful. I think a lifetime could be spent paddling the northern tributaries of the ottawa/st lawrence

I totally agree! I've done the Three Sisters but nothing north of the St Lawrence - looks beautiful!

That’s a great bow paddler. Makes the stern easier.

Nice work on the video Mikela! You had great water levels. I think most who've done the Triple Sisters prefer the Dumoine as well. Nice boat recovery too!

Love everything about it! My Dad and I are hoping to get into some white water this year, thinking of flipping our fiberglass for an esquif. Any advice for some noobs/recommended training?

Hey! That's awesome to hear! I do have a few pointers: - take a whitewater paddling course over a weekend to learn the principles / strokes - go with someone more experienced than you if possible - remember: if you wouldn't swim down the rapid, you shouldn't run it in a boat - carry all the safety gear (helmets, throw ropes, pin kit) I have a post on it here: www.voyageurtripper.com/get-started-whitewater-canoeing/ I hope that helps!

@@VoyageurTripper Right on thanks a lot, following along your journey has been really inspiring. My dad and I hope to run the Coulonge some day after some lessons and more research.

Wow looks amazing! Great job navigated Canoe Eater, I always think of Roy McGregor's experience on that rapid as he tells in a couple of books. Any reason why no spraydeck?
@VoyageurTripper3 жыл бұрын
Honestly we just didn't have a spray deck or a canoe outfitted for one. Would have been super helpful though - one canoe in our group had it and they would just ram right through standing waves with no consequences!

Excellent skills, video footage and narration. Thanks for posting. Please skip the distracting music next time the roar of the water was enough for you when you did the trip it's enough for us as well.

Keep it up I like your site and the videos and as you can see I'm pretty critical so not easy to please ! I've noticed a trend in the last few months of watching very diverse videos and lots of people are commenting excellent video to the point no misleading title or thumbnail and no irritating music. Utube evolves and I belong to the crowd that has had enough of the old tricks of misleading title thumbnails and unrelated to the video music. . Keep up the good work you deserve many more views and your website has lots of great advice as well.
