Big and Rich released “Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)” as their second single from their debut Album ‘Horse Of A Different Color’ in 2004. Big and Rich are a big reason that I started dipping my toes into the country music genre. Big & Rich are Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich. They are a popular duo in country music and are also a very successful songwriting team. They are also producers and do some artist development. They are Nashville mainstays and like to push the limits at times. This song was their first hit as Big & Rich, although both of them had, had previous success with other music acts. They also do more traditional as well. Check out a song called "Look At You."

The title of this song was actually a pick up line that John Rich (before he was married) came up with one night in a country bar in Dallas. John Rich is a great song writer and has written songs for other artist. Two songs that are 180 degrees opposite are “Lost in This Moment” which is played a lot at weddings and “Holy Water” which is about domestic violence against women. Big Kenny’s sister briefly appears in the really moving video because she had experienced domestic violence at some point. The song called “The 8th of November” is about a real soldier who was shot during the Vietnam war.

I'm an artist and a musician. In art school we learned that contrast creates interest - dark, light - dull, bright - large, small - rough, smooth, etc. In music, same thing in audio - loud, soft - slow, fast - signature changes, texture changes, etc. What you've got going on here is a HipHop guy reacting (positively) to Rock and Country! Wow! Talk about creating interest through contrast! You got it going on pal! Cheers!

Big and rich had many great songs including one called Holy water. My fav. Gretchen Wilson is a straight badass. Check out All jacked up, Redneck woman, here for the party, California girls, come to bed and tons more. Cowboy Troy is one of the first known country rappers. He has a great song called I played chicken with train. I had the privilege to meet Gretchen Wilson at a country connect. When I was leaving the meet and greet I was the first person out and no one was there to direct me where to go. I stated wandering around back stage. I actually met Two Foot Fred and Cowboy Troy.
