Les Paul is Steve Miller’s godfather. His father & mother were the best man & matron of honor at the wedding of Les Paul & Mary Ford (who is also a guitar legend). Steve started playing guitar at age six. Les heard him and became his mentor.

Saw Steve Miller last summer in Woodinville, WA. Such a great show. Also, this is a good one to listen to through headphones. That whip crack goes through your head. 😎 Edit: saw Steve Miller last week in Spokane and he told a quick story of when Eminem asked if he could sample this song. Not only did Steve agree to let him use it, he sent files of the original tracks so Marshall could use those as well. Steve Miller calls him Marshall. 😂 An absolute class act ❤

Eminem is basically the same age I am. When we were kids this song was everywhere on Rock radio and MTV. I think Eminem was trying to nostalgia on two levels...a hook and sample that hearkens to his childhood and lyrics and cadence that hearkens to his early adulthood. Being that I'm in the same cohort that really worked for me.
