This is what the song is really about. When asked about the song, Cindy Wilson (the blonde singer, whose brother died a few years before of AIDS and was in the band) said "Roam" was a "beautiful song about death… It's about when your spirit leaves your body, and you can just roam."

I never loved much about 80’s music in general but I always loved the B-52’s. Their quirkiness drew me in and their talent kept me coming back. Mercury refers to the thermometer and the rising temperatures in the warmer places people travel to. Great choice 🌺✌️

Love this band. Great song! This quirky and original band is out of Athens, GA and came out in the 70's with songs like "Rock Lobster", "My Own Private Idaho". Definitely a unique band with their own sound & style. They hit it big in the late 80's with their COSMIC THING album. It produced songs like this, "Love Shack" but you should also check out "Dead Beat Club" & "Channel Z". For some, the band is an aquirred taste. Personally, I just find them incredibly fun and make great party tunes. They came up with the song based on what Mark Twain had written - ""Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts,". Yes, Kate Pierson sang on R.E.M.'s song - "Shinny Happy People". Both bands are good friends and both from Athens, GA.

I can't sit still when I hear this song. It is madly catchy!!! Kate Pierson also sings a great duet with Iggy Pop. The song is called 'Candy' and you shoudl definitely check it out. It's a beautiful bittersweet love song with two amazing vocalists. And you are right it is also her featured in REM's 'Shiny Happy People' song/video.

The first line, about Mercury in every degree, is about astrology. Mercury is the planet of travel and communication - also magic. The group, especially Kate Pierson, was into New Age spirituality. (I knew a guy who did sound for their concerts for some years, met several members of the group at a birthday party for Kate Pierson in 1990.) This brings back great memories, thanks.

B-52 was also a hair style for women in the 60 also called a beehive hairstyle so even the name of the group has double meaning. I was lucky enough to meet them and even hang at their table on a few occasions as my bosses boyfriend was a well established DJ that knew them professionally . Even though I was young they really talked to and treated me as an equal that happened to like their music rather then a "fan". Fred is quite intelligent and one of the most quick witted funny individual's I've ever met. I tried to hide how smitten I was with Kate but I don't think I did a very good job of it even though no one ever said anything to me. What a grate time living in Athens in early to med 80's was. I've grown up in a number of major Collage towns but UGA was the first one I got to actually attend. The Athens club scene was lit and party's everywhere. I'm surprised I actually studied enough to graduate. REM is another hometown band from Athens so much so the played on campus for free several years even after becoming a national success. I wasn't a huge fan of them but like most big bands they had a few songs that no matter what your into you know are just grate songs even if your not going to go out and buy the Album.

Hahaha, yeah we have the B52H here at Minot AFB, the newest modes are from 1961 in the current inventory. Nicknamed "The BUFF" for Big Ugly Fat F*@ker" or "fellow" for the kids. They have an amazing take off, unlike usual jet, they don't take of with a lil bit of a nose up pitch, they take off almost vertically to the ground, looks crazy to me watching it. I think "Private Idaho", released from their 1980 album "Wild Planet", would be a good intro to early B-52's, but "Deadbeat Club" from the classic 1989 album "Cosmic Thing" is probably a more palatable hit to hear next. It's really good!!!

I think you’ve done a great job pivoting to your new studio setup! I’ve got one tiny suggestion. Put something with a little contrast behind the skateboard.
