Between Part 2 and Part 3, there's her fan's view of her: the perfect, unrivaled, ultimate idol who has no faults (Parts nobody wants to know should remain hidden). This figure of Ai is the "true Ai" her fans believe her to be. (Such a true love, it's the realest Ai). That's why this part has the voices of her fans ("hey hey") in the background.

Also, Part 2 is based off of a short novel the author of the manga wrote which is in the pov of one of the girls in B Komachi called "45510" (The password to Al's phone). The novel talks about how even though she (the girl) was always jealous of Ai, she was one of her biggest fans. She loved Ai in her own way, but also had this image of her in her head that Ai was the strongest one of all. So when she finds a video of Ai being vulnerable (when Ai was talking about her fear of white rice because her mom once threw glass at her and the shards got mixed in the rice and she didn't know what was the rice and what was the glass), she immediately deletes it, because that's not the Ai she knows. She also deletes the blog Ai wrote talking about how dependent she is on the other team members because that's not the Ai she "knows". The Ai she "knows" is someone who isn't dependent on anyone, someone who is uninhibited, someone who is isolated yet strong and doesn't regret a single thing. Someone who is unrivaled, the one and only and the strongest of all. (誰にも縋らず、奔放で、孤高で、強くて、後悔なんて一度もせず、無敵で最強で唯一無二なのが「アイ」なんだ。) That's why at the end of the rant it says 「完璧じゃない君じゃ許せない」(I won't forgive if it isn't the perfect you" and「誰よりも強い君以外は認めない」(I won't acknowledge anyone other than you, the strongest of all), meaning, she won't acknowledge the vulnerable Ai either.

So just some things to note. The rabbit costume is something that Japanese fans would be able to connect with instantly, because rabbit and the word lies are very similar so similar they could be considered a play on words. Usagi = rabbit and uso = liar. So at the end she takes off the mask and tells Aqua and Ruby with her own face and smile she loves them. Secondly Oshi no Ko is using Japanese slang Oshi means to push and in this case it’s to push your favorite idol to stardom, hence idol’s children, but it also sounds like Hoshi no Ko which hoshi means star again another reference to stars. Giving the title star’s children. Which is why it’s not translated into English in the anime title or the manga title. Ai’s full name is another play on words that’s full of meaning Ai Hoshino or in Japanese with the family name first Hoshino Ai can be broken down many ways. Firstly, her name Ai is spelled in Katakana. Katakana is how they try to communicate other words of other languages in this case the English word Eye. And her family name Hoshino which means star field. Her name means star field eyes, but it doesn’t end there. As you pointed out in the video Ai as a kanji means love and her family name Hoshino is also similar to the word hoshiino which means desire. Put together again family name first “desire of love”. If you thought that was all there’s one more parallel! Hoshino can also be split because no is a particle of possession in Japanese so if we take her Katakana spelling again hoshi meaning star no as the possessive character and Ai and put it together her name means “Ai of the stars”. Last thing to point out is that when the song mentions the twins names, it changes to Ai and gives her line as something along the lines of sings and dance, I am Maria. Maria is a reference to Virgin Mary and that she’s pure and innocent and still a Virgin even after having these kids…just like Ruby when she says there’s no father in the picture in episode one it was a reference to how her image as an idol she couldn’t have ever done anything so “impure”. Lots of references! It’s a great manga read as someone who is caught up to the current chapter I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone!

9:57 was the most touching part because yoasobi added ai’s last words specifically “ah i said it at last”, “its definitely not a lie” and “i love you” before she died. Really heart touching because for me it represents that ai still loves them even when she is dead and want to remind them of that through her hugging the time skipped version of them and saying i love and disappearing. Such a strong scene for me.

What's remarkable about YOASOBI's seemingly bizarre English translation is that it not only matches the sound of the Japanese language, but also follows the meaning of the story. Many of them match the beginning and ending sounds of the words. Moreover, after listening to the Japanese version several times, when you listen to the English version, there are parts where it sounds like Japanese despite being in English. ENG"That emotion melts"=JPN"daremoga mewo" and ENG"Completely deny"=JPN"kanpekijanai" etc .

that's a big reason why i don't like YOASOBI's English translations because they aren't written in a way that lyrically flows in English. I understand it's because English isn't their first language but it still bothers me lol

​@@KyunChan93 its because if you do that you would lose a lot of the story, emotions, and intent behind the lyrics. I get where your frustrations stems from but Nihongo isn't made to translate to English 1:1. This is why language translators are paid a huge wage because they need to be careful to the words the chose to add to the translated version of the message in order not to skew the original message and intent of the speaker. More if you are going to add rhythm, flow, and rhymes to the message which what a song is.

Ayase, the writer and composer of the song, actually reads the manga and describes himself as a big fan of the series. He also demoed a song about "Oshi no Ko" prior receiving the offer to perform the anime's opening. If Yoasobi were not asked to handle the composition and performing the opening theme the song would have been released by Ayase as a Vocaloid song called "Ultimate Secret Techniques".

Best break down of the song I've seen by far. Probably seen 10 reactions and this stands out. While I know fans often get emotionally invested in Anime or shows, it is rare I find myself in that group. Ai's story really hits me personally. I still hold the deaths of those in my care very sincerely even years on. My first love hid her pains and lied through her teeth for most. And while I was the first person to see the love she held, I never saw the hatred she had, too. Ultimately she OD'd when we were teens because of her self guilt and it hurts knowing she never got to truly show anyone her purely authentic self, instead only giving bits and pieces to different people and making sure no one would come together and connect all the pieces together. She was extremely talented, very sensitive, and worked her ass off at everything she did with every intention to help others but chose to end things because she felt she could never recover from her own guilt. She was just a kid then, lived a rough life, and tried her bery best and was exhausted for years on end. She at least got some of the things she'd always wanted through her short life. We had a home and life together, she got to pursue some of her dreams, and she helped a lot of people and felt loved. So even though her guilt consumed her, at least she had some reward for her fight. Ai reminds me a lot of her, and of people in my life or patients I had. Thanks for your work, really hit home and thanks for the deligence to break down the song and give Ai's character some acknowledgement.

1:27 the eye is also representing her as a "star" which is what an Idol is, but also that her name is Hoshino Ai or the "Star of Love" where the anime name is Oshi no Ko or "Child of the Star" because it's about her children (Aqua & Ruby) going forward. I love what they do with the eyes here with each child getting one eye-star and how that reflects the mental state no only in them, but he other characters throughout the show as it goes on.

So the star eye stuff is basically some unseen stuff to describe the person exhibiting starpower. Lying, performing, or in some cases scheming; if theyre utlizing their charisma it gets portrayed in their eye. Oh and fun fact, the song is based on a short story the author wrote called 41103.

She's wearing a bunny costume because a word play. Bunny in Japanese is "Usagi" and sounds similar to lie "uso" and liar "uso-tsuki". She literally wore lies as a suit. In the last part of her song, she could perform without her lies, as showing us she singing without the bunny suit, thanks to her children. And in the end, she was still was hanging to her bunny mask, until she drop her facade and could say "I love you" as a truth and not a lie. Very touching song tbh.

There’s so much in this AMV that I love! I’ve only seen a few episodes, but a couple things I’ve learned are: Usagi (Japanese word for rabbit) sounds like Uso (Japanese word for lie), so Ai dressed as a white lie fits so well. And the thing with the twins in the AMV is subtle and so amazing. It’d be considered a bit of a spoiler, so I won’t mention it, but if you ever consider giving this another watch after the series, it’d be cool to see if you can cook up any more thoughts and symbolism you see 👍

idk if anyone else brought this up but imma say it anyway bc i think it's neat: The title "Oshi no Ko" can directly translate to "My Favorite Idol" or "Their Idol's Children". "Oshi" also sounds similar to "Hoshi" which means "star", so you could also interpret the title as "Star Child" They didn't translate the title for the official english release, i imagine it was so they wouldn't give away the twists.
