The show is about aliens and ghosts to put it super simple. Theres a whole bunch of little easter eggs and refererences in the lyrics hes saying. Like on the first switch up when hes saying haireta 5 times in a row, its a reference to a japanese evil spirit. Haireta means Im Inside and that spirit says that over and over once it takes someone over.

No offence, but what part of the anime was confusing? It's a pretty straight forward story with cliche tropes but written well. If you want really confusing animes, watch Uzumaki, with only four episodes that went nowhere unfortunately and Heavenly Delusion where you won't get the entire story unless you read the manga or do research on it.

The anime was a mess in terms of pacing and animation quality but the story was pretty straight forward and adapted the manga's story...ably (the manga is anthology style and each story has its own chapter and pacing; they don't bleed into each other like the stories in the anime do but there wasn't really anything confusing)

The anime is about the supernatural: aliens, spirits, demons, etc. The song name itself, "Otonoke", means "sound yokai" If you listen closely you can hear references to japanese urban legends like "haireta" meaning "I'm inside". You also hear references to the spirits from The Grudge (Kayako) and The Ring (Sadako). As well as Chainsaw Massacre and Shyamalan.

Lightning struck other parts of Kyoto, but not the residence of Sugawara no Michizane, who had lost his lord. It was believed that the lightning was a curse from Sugawara no Michizane, who had become the god of thunder out of resentment for being demoted, and Sugawara no Michizane was restored to power. Following ancient Japanese custom, he was enshrined as a god in a shrine to appease anger. In "Jujutsu Kaisen," Okkotsu Yuta and Gojo Satoru are said to be descendants of Sugawara no Michizane 🤞😆
