During the bridge, there is a call-and-response, intertwined with another call-and-response. Plant’s voices matched by Page’s guitar (which was played with a cello bow) and then intermixed with it was JPJ on the bass, mirrored by Bonham on the drums. One of the most creative things I’ve ever heard, and I’m 70!

They were only together as a band about 2 months when they recorded this album in October of (1968), the album was released on January 12,1969. Singer Robert Plant turned 20, the day after their first rehearsal, which was on August 19,1968. Jimmy Page not only the greatest guitarist, he produced mixed & worked closely with all the engineers on all their albums. I believe the panning from side to side in headphones was his idea, he’s definitely a musical genius, but each of the 4 of them were. Yes some songs are covers, but several of their originals are true masterpieces, & a huge majority of the others are absolutely great. They are The GODS Of MUSIC! This is one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs, from their debut album in 1969, I think it was remastered in 1991. There is so much going on in this song and it's incredible to think it's 55 years old. The guys were so young when they did this, Robert Plant and John Bonham were about 20, John Paul Jones, 22 and Jimmy Page 24. Robert Plant's vocals are incredible but the whole song is a masterpiece in my opinion. The trippy bit in the middle with Jimmy Page using a cello bow on his guitar is fab, he was always experimenting with different techniques and devices and the sounds are amazing. The 'Dazed and Confused' song is actually a cover of a 1967 song by Jake Holmes. Thanks so much for your reaction Anthony. 😊😊

Page tinkered with this song for years. He started working on it together with "The Yardbirds" after hearing Holmes' original song at a gig they performed with him in 1967. The Yardbirds version was called "I'm confused".
@annemaclean6634Ай бұрын
@@MrVvulf Yes I know, he was touring with The Yardbirds in the US when he heard Jake Holmes perform the song, as you say, at a gig they performed in 1967. Page worked on it and The Yardbirds performed it, I've watched videos on youtube. When The Yardbirds broke up and Page formed The New Yardbirds (name then changed to Led Zeppelin) they performed this song at every or practically every concert, the length was longer than it is in the studio version. Page doing his long guitar solos!! I wouldn't say he tinkered with this song for years, he heard it first in 1967, played it with The Yardbirds and then on LZ's debut album in 1969, so a couple of years at most. By the way, there's a great quality live video of them performing this song at a show in London 1969. They are so young here, but my goodness you can see the potential! The video is called Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused (London 1969 Live Good Quality). It's just over seven minutes long.😊😊

@@Scoobydcs I know, for the time, it was completely unique. Not sure what you mean by theramin? Page used the cello bow in 'Whole Lotta Love' and as you say in 'How Many More Times', which is an epic song with a great riff. With regards to 'In the Evening', at the beginning, according to google! Page uses a gizmotron to create the droning effects and 'violin' effects. I've never heard of a gizmotron before!! @annemaclean6634Ай бұрын
@@Scoobydcs Okay, I've been checking up on this, you're right and I apologise, Page did use a theremin on 'Whole Lotta Love' on the studio version, but on live versions, he sometimes used the cello bow to replicate the sound of the theremin from the studio version. He also played the theremin in a 1977 extended multi-instrumental solo that featured both theremin and bowed guitar. Complicated isn't it??? It's very interesting how Page would use different devices to get different sounds! I've never heard of a theremin but I do remember now watching a live performance of LZ on youtube and I didn't know what Page was doing in the solo, but now I realise it was the theremin! This has been so interesting, I've learnt something new, so thanks very much for that! 😊😊

This entire album was recorded in October, 1968 over a period of 36 hours! Yes The Yardbirds played this, and they sounded great too. FYI, three of the greatest guitarists EVER were in that band; Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page. Whatever Led Zeppelin became was first established and honed in The Yardbirds. As for Dazed and Confused, the Jake Holmes version is much softer, the lyrics are different and the middle bowed guitar sections plus the blazing leads are all original. Yes the hook is similar and the title but the rest is the creativity of Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham. Their first album captures the raw vitality and power of a group that would set the highest standard for all other rock, alternative, heavy metal and progressive bands to come. In other words, Led Zeppelin defied all genres. They were absolutely unique and their influence continues now and far into the future. They’ll still be playing and listening to Led Zeppelin’s music centuries from now.

I didn't read the earlier comments so likely someone mentioned it, but the song you were trying to remember starting at about 3:12 into the reaction was the 1970 Black Sabbath (with Ozzy as lead singer) song "Paranoid." --- (Totally unnecessary not at all connected or related trivia: I was 15 years old when Paranoid" was released and turned 14 years old the month "Dazed and Confused" was released.) "Finished with my woman 'Cause she couldn't help me with my mind People think I'm insane Because I am frowning all the time (come on out) All day long I think of things But nothing seems to satisfy Think I'll lose my mind If I don't find something to pacify Can you help me? Occupy my brain Oh, yeah" ---- etc. Edit. The psychedelic sound from Jimmy Page's guitar came from him playing it using a bow, sometimes violin and sometimes cello. The origins of Page’s usage of the violin/cello bow date back to when Page was working as a session musician throughout the mid-1960s. A string player suggested that Page pick up the technique, and even showed him the proper way to hold the bow. While a member of The Yardbirds Page used a bow in between R&B influenced tunes, adding a psychedelic edge to the band’s more bluesy sound. Then he used it again on, if I remember right, three Led Zeppelin songs. "How Many More Times," "Dazed and Confused" and "In The Light" -- but it was occasionally used during the breakdown sections of "Whole Lotta Love" to replicate the theremin lines of the song’s recorded version.
