I read the main influence for that song was Metallica's "Enter Sandman". If you listen to that one, you might find the similarities in the build-up riffs, the breakout into the main riff and even the cooldown part after the solo is similar. So, they're definitely influenced by Metallica. The drums have been done by Arin Ilejay. Their lead singer goes by the name M. Shadows, as all the band members (except for their new drummer Brooks Wakerman) go by stage names.

I saw them live during the tour for this album and the drummer was decent but you could feel it wasn't quite the same as the Rev. The dudes name on this album was Arin Lejay. Newest dude is Brooks wackerman and I'd say he's on oar with the Rev This definitely the best track off the album

You guys totally have to react to Afterlife. It’s one of A7X’s catchiest, most unique songs that they have written and the solo is wild. Also the Rev does backing vocals on the song. But make sure you don’t react to the music video because that basically cuts out all of the best parts of the song. I would suggest reacting to a lyric video because the song tells a really cool story.

Do a side by side comparison to this song and megadeth trust. I think I was done to pat homage to the music that influenced them. And with the song lyrics I will have to agree with smokey on this one. It's like a divorced family. One parent always makes the other look evil and yet that other parent just want the love and respect from the ones he loves. Gives gifts of pleasure, knowledge, and so on because he wants to see his loved ones succeed in their existence instead of living on their knees and with constant fear. That's just my opinion and not trying to start an argument with the ones who follow in the other direction. Everyone can have a personal opinion.

There's only one flaw in that analogy... he isn't one of our parents. At most he's a distant cousin maybe, but he had no hand in our creation. He's more of a jealous ex-employee than anything, really. He's the annoying rabble-rouser standing out front picketing with his failed union to hurt business as much as he can now that he's no longer employed there. He's that wacko who berates all the new workers who replaced him every morning; the loudmouth calling everyone "scabs" for filling his job with less training and experience required compared to when he was first hired all those years ago. The guy who's bitter and directionless because his big walkout protest backfired on him, and now he's out on his ass with no future in sight. That's really what he is if you think about it. I'm sure he'd love to have people believe he has equal custody, but he really doesn't. He's just resentful of his new reality because he placed an enormous wager on himself and lost.

The album this song comes from is a concept album of sorts, in that each song on it was written in the style of a band that influenced them growing up- so you hit the nail on the head saying that A7X are Metallica fans, and the similarities here are done on purpose. Because of what they were "going for" this album is sometimes criticized as not being as complex or technical as their other music. Personally I think it slaps.

I always felt this was a song about Lucifer telling people to stop kneeling and live as they will "no need to serve on your knees" "won't tell you who not to be". He's the shepherd of fire, adverse to the shepherd of light. A few of their songs are aun from the devil's perspective, offering a place to rule in Hell apposed to serving in Heaven.

this is def speaking from the perspective of Satan. if God is "my shepard" or the "shepard of light" well.... what is Satan? the shepard of fire. seems to be arming both the strong... and the weak... both sides of war. to help perpetuate, and continue them. He says he is your pride.. and they say "pride cometh before the fall". there are plenty of references to kinda point this towards being the perspective of the devil...when making a deal with him, and from the position from which he will sell himself, and his services. It only costs you a little bit in the end anyways right?

One of the best metal vocalists of the modern era. It's too bad he Axl Rosed himself with bad vocal technique. It caused damage that required surgeries. When you force vocal distortion like that it's only a matter of time. There are a lot of similarities in M.Shadow's and Axl's vocal techniques. Watch them both live in their prime. Very similar. In Avenged Sevenfold's newest single you can hear his voice is completely shot.

I think it's from the perspective of what Judeo‐Christianity would call the devil. Is he trying to twist the truth and claim that he's not the bad guy to lure people so he can collect souls? Or is he pleading his case that over the millennia he's been dammed alone because he's not what he's been portrayed to be? I'm not sure what the song writer's viewpoint was.

Had a long thing typed up, KZbin killed it. TL DR, Sullivan isn't the best of all time, he's an emotional pick from the fans just like Chester is for LP. Both better than above average. That being said, this album along with their self titled and City of Evil are my top three. The others have hits here and there but peter out towards the end. Imo, A7X never reached their pinnacle due to Sullivan's death. It really handicapped them and made them more emotional which is why the fans regard the Rev as they do. I'd still say they're top tier but they really haven't filled that hole on drums after all these years no matter the talent sitting there and its sad. Metallica was almost there when Cliff passed, but it took a maniac fan like Jason Newstead to keep them going. I really hoped for better things for A7X but they still haven't healed. They have however kept evolving successfully so they def get the award for best comeback band every time they put out a new record.

out of curiosity, off which albums were the songs you listened to? I've found that outside of the first 2 albums (since they were doing screamo back then), Self-titled and The Stage (these two being more experimental), their sound is definitely close to being the most stereotypical 2000s heavy metal you can get. If you haven't, I'd recommend giving some of the songs from the latter two albums I mentioned a try and see if anything clicks.
@DefinitelyNotBender
@DefinitelyNotBender Жыл бұрын
@@mdw1049 I think I’ve heard every album, by this point. I have friends that love A7X so I’ve heard them a lot. Like I said, I’ll listen to them but not by choice. It’s because someone else wanted to listen and I don’t mind the band. I just don’t think they stand apart from most bands that came out around the same time. All of them started out with hardcore/screamo/post punk sounds, the singer blew out their voices because they had bad technique and now they are all “experimental” due to having to find a new sound without breaking up the band. Like most generic musicians that can’t keep the momentum going as long as the greats. Not every band can be amazing. And if the band owns that fact, like I think A7X does, then they can still be decent to people that aren’t fans. Unfortunately, mega fans usually have a hard time accepting that someone heard all the same songs from that band they did and didn’t fall in love. Sorry, not sorry but that didn’t happen when I first heard A7X and hasn’t since. And I don’t think they ever can make me become a fan. I hope they prove me wrong.

@@mdw1049 I mean, I think for the range they perform compared to their music that they produce, they are great musicians. It doesn’t show in their studio tracks. I just don’t think they play to their full potential so that they keep those numbers coming in that they got to with their very mainstream first two albums. There’s something missing, in my opinion, that’s holding them back from greatness. That again is just my opinion. If the fans love what they did on the Stage I hope that they do reproduce that extent of sound from here on. I will admit, they have gotten much better than when they first hit the scene. I consider that stuff almost annoying. If I hear it a lot. Occasionally, it’s fine.
