Jimmy “the rev” wrote most of this album, he was the original drummer and died during the making of this album, he had a very interesting take on the world and life, years before he died he said he’d never make it past 30 and I believe he died at 28, he was a an amazing drummer and a brother to the rest of the band, the song so far away was written for the rev definitely worth the listen, R.I.P. the REV

Those high drum sounds you heard coming out of the breakdown section were Octabans, a type of single-headed tube-like drum that varies its pitch by the length of the shells rather than the diameter of the drum shell as per the drums you usually see on a kit. They're one of the signature sounds of Mike Portnoy, who drummed on the Nightmare album after A7X's original drummer (and one of the band's main songwriters) The Rev passed away.
@TANKxPRAY13 Жыл бұрын
There is so much pain in M shadows voice with this album, as some had said they lost there drummer during the making of this album, and you can hear it in his singing. Nightmare is my favorite album from A7X. Save Me is such a great song as well. In regards to Nightmare it deals with an individual who is damned for his wrongdoings on earth. The song is sung from the point of view of a resident of hell, who may have once been a living person too, mocking the other character and pointing out that it's his own fault he's in hell.
@Britton_Thompson Жыл бұрын
Hell yes! You finally did my request I badgered you about for two months! Thanks Knox! .... The lead singer's personal beliefs have grown increasingly atheist over the years, but he doesn't allow his own individual perspectives to get in the way of quality songwriting. If there's a religious theme or principle that helps enhance the overall story and drive home the message he wants the listener to take from it, he'll use it because he knows that millions of his/their fans are religious, and he would never talk down to them about it (the way too many metal bands have had a tendency to do over the years). In spite of his agnosticism/atheism, he's very well read on the Bible and has a deep comprehension of it. The name 'Avenged Sevenfold' itself comes from the Bible actually. I forget the exact chapter and verse, but it's from the Old Testament where God took mercy on Cain and promised him protection after he killed his brother, Abel, by decreeing that anyone in Israel who attempts to kill Cain for retribution for his own crime of murder will "...suffer the Lord's vengeance sevenfold" in the afterlife.

Buried Alive is one of their best ever, dare i say in almost all the same ways One is one of Metallica's best.. period. On the album that ending with the echo bouncing around and getting slightly louder actually runs straight into the next song, Welcome to the Family. Like there's no break between them it just drops right into the drums on the next song which are pretty aggressive. Also a cool song to dive into, there's really no bad choices on that album, it's one of their best.

One of my favorite bands! And my favorite song by them. "The Rev's" drumming in this song got me into playing the drums myself. He also sings in this and a bunch of their other songs. Although this is the last album he was a part of before he died. And this album ended up being a tribute to him. If you watch the official music video for "Nightmare" they show his drum kit at the end basically saying goodbye to him. So glad you're checking them out! They've just started releasing new music after 7 years with a new single called "Nobody" that I think you'd like. This was the song that he played over and over and over so I know this one well 😂😂😂 I have a video of him when he was with his band that was professionally done, and I've been thinking about uploading it to KZbin. My son is now 27 with two babies of his own. He doesn't tour anymore, and the drumming inside their house ....even in a farther away room scares the Ish out of the little ones... so this really brought back GREAT memories for me!! Thanks Knox another 🔥🔥🔥 🔥 reaction!!!

You should absolutely check out the new song "Nobody" they just dropped a week ago. First song in 7 years. Big fan of you Knox

as I stated in the last AX7 reaction. Due to his throat surgery and nearly dying. They told him he'd never sing again. So Shadows likes to push his vocals as a big fu. i still got this! love it. Next do "Hail To The King" 🤘

Your breakdown and understanding of the lyrics is amazing brother. Hands down the best reactor especially to metal bands. My man 💪🏾

I love that there is a proper reactor who understands the depths of A7X writing and messages within their songs. Most people just hear music they like but don't realize the meaning of the songs they're singing along with.

The Rev was one hell of a song writer and drummer. He played piano, the drums, guitar or bass, could sing and drums. You can tell the difference in the drumming and the writing since he passed. He was one of a kind. He wrote this one and most of this album. He looked at things quite different than the average person. He had said once that he wouldn’t live to be 30. He passed away at 27 or 28.

Also, about the video was in a way dedicated to The Rev, it was set around the movie "Jacob's Ladder", The Rev's favourite movie. The drums at the beginning and end are a tribute. Nightmare as an album is dedicated to The Rev's memory and although it's not exactly a concept album, it does center around The Rev.

It’s enjoyable watching new fans discover the miracle that is Avenged Sevenfold, i have 57 songs alone from A7X on my playlist

You should react to Fiction, by Avenged. It was the last song that their drummer “The Rev” recorded, and he told the band that he felt that it was all he had left to give, shortly after that he passed.

Great reaction, absolutely love seeing more of A7X! I'm very curious what your thoughts would be about one of their "newer" songs, "Exist". It's a longer one, but definitely brings a lot to the party!
