The Japanese version is literally about a woman going straight to hell. So, the translated version in English sounds nothing like what they meant it to, from what I've read.
@@CharlesEMurphy It fits much better with some of their other songs and performances with pentagrams and such being involved, also with the "metal" aspect in general. The English version needed a better translation...or a thesaurus to make it harder. It sounds nothing like it should, as I'm to understand it.

Both Su and Moa now speak English. They worked to become fluent because they wanted to be able to communicate to their international fans.Moa accent with give you chills. English is taught in Japanese schools but not conversational English so they have to learn to speak in English. As I understand it Babymetal biggest international fan bases are England, Germany, USA and Russia. As to numbers for each country, don't know. In 2019 they sold-out the LA Forum, with no supporting acts, which is a milestone for any band. FYI Band-Maid put out video to communicate with all the fans, it was in Japanese and English with notes in both. All members spoke in English, It was Great!! Also, after Yui left for health reasons - 2 1/2 years since she last appeared - and the tragic death of Mikio, they had a period of a larger dance ensemble of Avengers. There are now three women who substitute for Yui in different shows. Last Autumn’s US tour used Riho Sayashi, this Winter’s European tour used Momoko Okazaki. Also used is the Moa look alike Kano Fujihira. Just slightly younger than Su, Riho also originates from Hiroshima, and was a well known Idol star in Morning Musume. Fans yearn for a return of Yui, but Kano, Riho and Momoko need to be supported also.

React to the 2 different version of Akatsuki (pronounced ah-cut-ski). There's the full version w the kami and then there's the Akatsuki Unfinished version where Su sings it live backed by a piano and nothing else - no guitars no drums no bass. I'll link it right here for you - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXi6kqxpp7iBe8k Also, payday is friday, will be becoming a Patreon! Awesome content man!

They do have a couple of songs in English apart from this one. 'The One' is most obvious to go to (although the official video is the half and half English-Japanese version - most other live versions are full English), also 'From Dusk Till Dawn' is probably in English, but hearing the lyrics isn't very easy on that - great song though, very different to anything else they've done. The fan base in the US is growing, they also have a lot of fans in the UK and Europe, but it is only in Japan where they can regularly sell out arenas as things stand. Outside of Japan they have only had two arena shows - Wembley Arena in 2016 (12500 people) and The Forum in LA last October 2019 (17000? people).

As I'm to understand it, this song was kind of a "thank you" from the group to their fans who speak other languages for learning (or trying to learn) Japanese so they can sing along with their songs. They wanted to translate one into English. As Rick Wagner said before, the Japanese version is more of a girl going to hell and being tortured. Whereas the English version is hard to really discern the meaning. I like the energy of it, but I honestly prefer the Japanese version. This was a super nice gesture by them. I just hope they don't start going down the road of switching to English in their songs just to get even more into the bigger markets like the U.S. and others. They are awesome just as they have been.

"As I'm to understand it, this song was kind of a "thank you" from the group to their fans who speak other languages for learning (or trying to learn) Japanese so they can sing along with their songs. They wanted to translate one into English." That was "The One". I don't think there's a particular reason why there's an English and a Japanese version of Elevator Girl. But I'm the same as you, I definitely like the Japanese one better. But I also like the Japanese version of The One better. I think the English one is confusing with the End of the World and so on. The Japanese one makes a lot more sense, the same as with Elevator Girl.

Hey! Another great review! Su-Metal is at least bi-lingual and has been doing interviews in English for years. Think about this. I have to admit, I don't understand a single word of the chorus. I'm not a native English speaker, though. I prefer the Japanese version, too. I like the concept. First of all, an elevator girl is a very Japanese concept, and the twist they give it that she always takes you down to hell is pretty Metal. Perfect combination. If I'm not mistaken, you haven't watched "The One" yet. It's a great, more mellow song that has an English version as well. It's an ode to their international fans, and as such is somewhat emotional as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iou1p4JmiJKHgrc

Hate to disabuse your theories, the elevator is on it's way to hell. The song is about the ups and downs of a girl crossing into adulthood. If you look at Da-Da-Dance half the footage is from the LA show last October. The American and European audiences are just as engaged with the band. They have a concert from Wembley in the UK which may still be on KZbin and you can see an English audience. I say English, but anywhere they play the audience is international - people fly in from all over the world to see a Babymetal concert and anyone you go to has a large contingent of international fans.
