I saw Bjork live in 1994 when she headlined the Big Day Out festivals in Australia along with Soundgarden, The Ramones and the Smashing Pumpkins. Her mic wasn't working for the first 10 seconds of her set but you could hear her voice clearly over the crowd. That was a trip and when the mic came back on her voice was live was insane. She had everybody's attention. Extraordinary artist

The video was directed by French director Michel Gondry who would go on to direct Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He also directed a lot of Bjork's videos including Army of Me. Bjork is an alien! She’s got this crazy palate of electronica, trip-hop beats and classical strings, very eclectic. Check out “Alarm Call” it’s got a sick beat with her otherworldly voice making magic. Chinchilla is probably the closest modern artist as far as her “out there” kinda vibe and vocal ability

Guys, did you recognize that Björk makes no attempt to be sweet, seductive, charming, sexy etc. in this video? It is mostly irritating to men watching her and maybe a handful other female artists refusing to match the expectations of male watchers in videos, on stage, etc.....this shows how deeply sexist the industry and society still is. She is a hero artist..

Björk is pretty fantastic. If you'd like to see someone else a little like her, I would really love to see you guys react to Aurora. She's the best. One of the few performers with live performances that are usually better than her studio recordings (though her most recent album is really really good). Here are a few options: -If you want an old, popular song, watch Runaway (the music video inspired Billie Eilish to look at music as a career) -If you want to cry, watch Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1) live at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert -If you want something recent, watch Starvation (music video) or A Soul With No King (live on Vevo) There are a ton of other places you can go - there's no right place to start.

Much as I enjoyed this and her biggest hit "It's Oh So Quiet" whenever I see Bjork I think of the UK satirical puppet show "Spitting Image" which had sketches entitled "101 uses for a Bjork". These included a smoke alarm, a heart monitoring machine and an R2D2! The trippy video reminds me of "There There" by Radiohead where Thom Yorke becomes a tree. Hope you get back to them soon and you must check out the hauntingly beautiful "Pyramid Song" with lyrics.

Bjork was doing music pretty much her entire life. She released a covers album when she was 9 I think (it's bad, don't worry about it). Her first legit project was the vocalist for an Icelandic band called The Sugarcubes. Check out the song Birthday. super catchy and oddball like her usual stuff, BUT THE VOCALS Jesus. She was just a teenager at the time and the vocals are insane. Tons of power and emotion at that young age.

This was the first single Björk released as a solo artist after the sugarcubes broke up. She’s said it’s written from the perspective of other animals on t earth observing humans and being baffled by us! The video concept she developed with Michel Gondry was a children’s storybook aesthetic. Her record label was expecting modest album sales, but this song and the album were a surprise hit, especially in Europe where it cracked the top 10 in album sales charts.
