Did you recognize that Björk makes no attempt to be beautiful, sexy, seductive, sweet etc..but just be herself? She generally refuses to match expectations especially of male watchers who are used to the fact that most female artist act like that. She is so cool!

Mike for someone who's used to putting things in a box Björk was always going to be a challenge, she doesn't fit in a box, she tears them up, I hope you get to hear more from her, like tank girl or human behaviour

Hi Mike, first of all there is no need to be humble about the quality of work and the honesty with which you bring to your reactions. This is a major part of why your channel is growing at such a rate. Thank you for taking the time to give an honest account to what you just listened. Bjork is not everyones cup of tea. The song itself is all about emotion, it describes the feeling of being on the edge , exhilarated , scared , apprehensive. it is melancholy , and introspective , but also it rests just on the point of explosion just before all those feeling are let loose.. Who knows you may never do another Bjork song ever again, but at least you will know who she is as an artist. Thanks again .. I may choose more accessible artists for you next time . C.

😂🤣😂 Bless you and your humble self, Mike! Bjork is a crazy, quirky, post-punk kinda gal, and she’s often considered an acquired taste. Also very feminine: Bjork is all emotion based, she sings a lot about big feelings, relationships with people and her love of the environment. She’s from Iceland and has an unusual accent, so don’t feel too bad about not understanding the words…I have every album she’s ever released, she’s central to the soundtrack of my early adulthood. Good on you for giving her a go ❤

So the first time I saw this song, I woke up to a call from my elderly mother, my father had had a heart failure had slipped, I rushed to her house, he was on the floor with her bleeding. my mom was in shock and I called 911 and the firefighters came and helped get him into the ambulance. we got in the car and followed the ambulance, at 1 am in the morning. I had been going through Bjork's music and Joga came on. All these accidents that happen Follow the dot, coincidence Makes sense only with you You don't have to speak, I feel Emotional landscapes They puzzle me The the riddle gets solved And you push me up to This state of emergency How beautiful to be State of emergency Is where I want to be All that no one sees, you see What's inside of me Every nerve that hurts, you heal Deep inside of me, oh You don't have to speak, I feel it took me somewhere important. this emergency was happening, it snapped me to the moment, the preciousnes of it, the horror, and sadness, the regret. it made it sacred and ready and prepared to be a 40 year old man with a father who might die and a mother who was completely unprepared for it. This song is about living with emergency. and then it's bigger, it's about what emerges- from crises, from life, pain, from all of this mess, emergencies depend on our readiness, out bravery, our presence. Bjork is very good at crystalizing the sensation of crises and using art to face it head on

bjork has recently written songs about her mothers' death, she's written about heart break, about the need to manage suicidal thoughts, about betrayal, about being a mother.

I just subscribed to your channel. Bjork isn't for everyone. I've seen her perform live and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I appreciate you giving it a chance. That's what discovering new music is all about. You don't have to apologize for being honest.

One of the most beautiful bits of music from one of the most naturally gifted artists ever. She has produced much of the most heartfelt, yearning, wistful, humane music ever… but I’ve never known what she’s on about or most of the words… but I know it’s amazing. Good on you for earnestly trying though…

It's odd, because I feel like I'm watching myself, in the future, during this reaction. I really have no clue how to be on camera. Or I really have trouble (even more than you unfortunately :P ) trying to explain or express my thoughts. I do appreciate what you were saying about seeing generations creating and making music like this. I think what you were meaning, is real people, sitting down and playing real instruments together and having this moment of expression. While it does seem lost for the majority of popular music, I do see and feel that it's not lost. There will always be amazing people making amazing art, in a real world way. Not to discredit or put down all the fancy production and synths and all of that stuff. But seeing and hearing live music really is special. And all I do is make synths and stuff 😂 so I'm hating on myself a bit.

I've been a Bjork fan for many years and fully admit I often don't know exactly what she's singing about, or may only have a vague idea. A lot of her music, for me, is more just about the instrumentation and feeling in the music. This particular song, I do actually know some of the context for. "Joga" is the name of one of her close friends (who was the wife of the one time mayor of Iceland's capital city), and this song was written as a sort of ode to her as well as Bjork's native home of Iceland. Of note- Bjork did not write the lyrics to this song, they were written by an Icelandic poet Sjon (another friend of Bjork's). She writes most of her own songs, but this one she had difficulty putting into words her admiration and love for her friend. In the lyrics she is expressing how despite how much she loves to write, she was finding she couldn't adequately express herself here, and it was putting her in a "state of emergency" but at the same time, it was kind of a beautiful feeling being at a loss for words. "And you push me up to, This state of emergency, How beautiful to be, State of emergency, Is where I want to be" The music is her attempt to personify the natural beauty of her home, she wrote the string arrangement and the album version of this song has some electronic beats accompanying it, which she says reminds her of Iceland's primal heartbeat. Iceland has extremely beautiful landscapes, but also is home to several active volcanoes, so that's kind of represented in the beautiful soaring strings combined with the more "chunky" beats, which this live performance omits.

Bjork is certainly different however definitely grows on you. I.prefer a different version that she made of this with a full orchestra. A young Australian artist named Georgi Kay does an accoustic version of this with a guitar that may be more to your liking Mike. Georgi's version is hauntingly beautiful and I think she (like Bjork) is an amazing talent. It takes nothing away from Bjork's ability as she too is phenomenal, just very different than Bjork's original.

You'd probably want a lyric sheet to follow along when she sings, she has a very thick Icelandic accent. I know some people who make reaction videos will look at the lyrics beforehand just to know if there is any objectionable content, in some cases it'd also be good just for context, comprehension, and conversation.
