The musical references here are pretty extensive: The song starts with a crowd chanting "Blackpink" like the crowd chants "Bravehearts" in the Nas song "Made You Look". Then Jennie hits us with a reference to Biggie's famous line "kick in the door, wavin the 44"(Jennie says Coco.(Chanel). Next Lisa references Rhianna's "Pon de Replay" with "One by one then two by two" and also 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. with "you couldn't get a dollar outta me". Rosé and Jisoo both reference Taylor Swift with "look what you made us do". Finally, the Jennie/Lisa rap verse is backed by a synths sample from Ice Cube/Eazy-E's part of "Gangsta Gangsta" by N.W.A. They(Teddy and the girls) definitely weren't shy about shouting out their inspirations/favorite artists in this song.

They actually dropped this around the 49th anniversary of hip-hop. Lisa and Jennie (the rappers in the second verse) both have a strong rooted love for rap and hip-hop. You caught Biggie, but Rihanna was quoted as well. The late 80's to early 90's hip-hop vibe would remind me of Biggie, Pac, NWA, and the legends that paved the way for this genre. They without a doubt are paying homage. These girls are amazing. All of them.

They are the best female group in this genre right now by far. Blackpink is bigger than babymetal due to hip-hop, rap segments and MV views. Babymetal did not disband. They are coming out with new stuff soon, but if you look to see best all female bands on the planet, who actually compose, arrange, write lyrics and play the instruments themselves, then they are: Lovebites, Nemophila, Scandal and Band-Maid, ranging from pop/punk rock to Heavy metal. Well, best bands in general. You also have something similar to Babymetal such as Wagamama Rakia who mix rap with metal or Passcode, who have screaming vocals ... ok and about 50 more bands and groups just to start with :D

Teddy and Danny (he was the one who discovered LISA) and the girls put together this homage of all the early influences in their life that made them want to be artists there are other references in there as well Taylor Swift. TLC and BIG BANG and 2NE1 there is no pinching anything they had permission and royalties were paid no one in YG would ever do that they are to big a company to attract that kind of hassle. Lisa's lines she samples a very small part of Pom de replay and finishes that line with makes no sense can't get a dolla out of me has many links and if you're a true fan you would understand the link but they actual words are from 50cents. This is not appropriation in any way shape or form this is them saying thank you. I hope I don't come across as some kind of a**hole here but I'm just going to go for it and hope for the best. I noticed that there are some breath control problems in the intro song. Well...since my husband and I book bands for a living I went ahead and asked some of the better singers that we know to give me advice about extending your oxygen supply and breath control. I'm probably pushing my luck here but I wanted to ask if I should just post them or would that be considered disrespectful? I'm fairly socially inept so I have to ask. Sorry...

@@Hollywood6IX yessir. It kinda sounds like the vocalist runs short on air in a few places. And, while I'm no expert, I have spent the last 22 years booking/working with bands so I've picked up a few things here and there. I know this might sound vaguely unbelievable but rap puts just as much, if not more, of a strain on your vocal chords than more traditional singing. Just a little FYI, using improper breathing methods, uncontrolled projection and singing/rapping from your lungs and throat instead of your diaphragm can cause a lot of damage. And that damage is called vocal chord nodes. That's one of the many reasons that operatic singers train and practice so much. As a matter of fact, nodes are one of the biggest reasons that you should never, under any circumstances, drink any liquid below room temperature before you sing or rap. Doing that can actually accelerate the development of nodes. Trust me on this, you absolutely, 100% do not want to develop nodes on your vocal chords. The surgery isn't fun and your voice never quite gets back to where it used to be. Let me repeat this, improper breath control and projecting from your diaphragm and not your lungs and throat are both VERY important. Since you're somewhat familiar with Metallica, I'm going to use James as an example. If you ever have the time to spare, I want you to look up one of Metallica's older live performances. Then I want you listen to one of the more recent ones. It will be hard to tell in some places (their sound engineer EARNS his pay like no one I've ever seen) but James has lost a lot of the more subtle nuances that his voice used to have. Granted, he's never had a big range but the subtleties of his voice more than made up for it. IIRC, he had an outpatient surgery to repair the damage the nodes did to his vocal chords. Don't bother looking it up, I looked everywhere for the article I read about it but had no luck with my search. If you decide to go looking for article, I wish you the best of luck. In any case, apparently, he downplayed the surgery as much as he could and did everything within his power to kill the story any time it popped up. He also had to start working with a vocal coach to learn some methods that will help him avoid developing nodes in the future.
