the good drummers tend to switch it up bc theyre always aware of the beat and can always find it later even with all these crazy time signatures and off beats, I feel like the bass player is the one providing the beat for gojira while the drummer is doing his thing. mastodons drummer always sounds a bit different bc he loves to fill whenever he can which for the sake of a cleaner sound you cant really do for the album version

Gojira are, in short, French environmentalist progressive metal, and super badass. The playing on the neck is called tapping, you're tapping the string to a fret which makes a note, and then the release vibrates the string again at the lower note that's held further down the neck, and going back and forth. Most metal bands don't improvise that much, but a lot of bands may end up playing a song differently live than they did in the studio.

How the drummer does that double bass? Training. Lots of it. And this was nothing. Check out 'Where Dragons Dwell' live at Hellfest 2013. The last part is 4 full minutes of uninterrupted double bass.
@RogerLaLoutre
@RogerLaLoutre 4 жыл бұрын
Here is also a post from the drummer from Instagram, explaining how it feels to extensively play double bass '' Where Dragons Dwell from the album « From Mars to Sirius » is the most intense Gojira song to perform live. Especially because of the ending. This song, which speaks of confronting your own personal demons, always fascinated me with it’s demanding physical performance. The end section is a complete corporeal trance for me. With a relentless double kick pattern at 180bpm lasting from 4-9 minutes. I use all the force in my knees and thighs to generate the energy required to execute this section. The first minute of demanding thirty-second notes is hard on my body, and the following minute is when my legs start to tingle. From that point on it’s so intense that my mind starts to drift a little. With this intensity at a maximum level, sometimes the trance transports me beyond the pain. It even feels like my body is floating above the drum kit. Naturally, when the song is over and I come out of the trance, there are consequences sometimes. When we extend the part for almost 10 minutes, I’ve actually felt like I was going deaf, and even had sensations of numbness in my pelvis and legs for a few seconds after the song is over.''

Good evening gents, I hope that you are both doing well! Just stumbled across your channel and wanted to offer you both words of praise for a wonderful job, as well as some suggestions that you may enjoy in this incredibly vast world of metal music. As you can tell, there are many different genres and subgenres that you might not be familiar with, so I wanted to give you a few recommendations that will both generate clicks and be a worthwhile listen. Starting off with Hard Rock (generally a little lighter and easier to understand than metal) I'd go with Breaking Benjamin. They have a vast catalog, but "Diary of Jane" would be a good starting point. Moving along to folk metal, Amorphis is a wonderful band that blends unique elements and historical-based lyrics. They have a song called "The Bee" which is fantastic. For metalcore (a little heavier than hard rock with some screaming), Veil of Maya is one of the best. They just put out a brand new song called "Outsider" that is phenomenal. Delving a little harder is deathcore, with a lot of growls and screaming and very fast guitars with some solos thrown in. A band called "Fit for an Autopsy" is one of my favorite, and they have a song called "Black Mammoth" that sends a wonderful political message. There is a subgenre called djent that focuses on heavy bass lines - the most notable band that you'll come across there is called Meshuggah. Their song "Bleed" is very popular on reaction channels. Anyway, just wanted to offer a few thoughts your way. Wishing you both the best and feel free to send a message my way if you both need a guide to offer advice along the way. Cheers!

You really need to go down this rabbit hole, they are ALL KINDS of Metal, lol. Seriously.. but they are billed as a "progressive, technical death metal" band... if you can believe that.. They are just Gojira.. but they will sound different but always sound like themselves. Heaviest Matter of the Universe, Oroborus, Flying Whales, Silvera, Art of Dying... those should get you into it enough for you to then start doing album reviews.. They suck you in and keep you happy on each album. Trust Me.

The core difference is that rap artists perform to playback usually so it's just a backing track. So do most "pop" artists. Rock, metal, blues, country (usually), bluegrass, folk and so on is normally performed live. It's usually because the music itself is not the focal point of pop and rap, it's the voice and the bars that people give a crap about, the beat is just a beat to be played in the background. Structurally the music is the same as the studio but every live performance is unique. Think of it more as a DJ scratching. It's basically impossible to reproduce exactly the same every time. Sometimes you screw up a little, sometimes you do a slightly different drum fill, sometimes you embellish the vocals or if you're tired maybe you drop it down an octave to make it easier to sing. It also happens that bands who are very technical play simpler chords live, maybe they don't add7 or what have you. Especially if you play guitar AND sing you really want to make your guitarwork as easy as possible while performing live.

The drummer mario Duplantier (brother of the singer, Joe) is one of the top3 drummer in the world. They are french, which is not that common in the metal world, and produce some of the purest sounds live. You can also see that on every be video of them, you will have 99.99% positive comments, and thumbs up. You could check Stranded, perfect for the current situation, or "l'enfant sauvage", or flying whales, live. But the drummer is more precise than a goddam clock. Nice reaction once more guys !

Every gift has a good and a bad side. Gojira is a very good band. They come from France. Great reaction gentlemans. Try Flying Wahles or Art of dying. Smokey has a right. Drummer is very important. If Kai (from Nightwish) mess up his work whole song is going wrong. Sometimes drummer is a specific form of metronom.

Bonne réaction messieurs. Lots of Gojira songs are groovy. Stranded, flying whales etc... You need to check more Gojira, they have insanely good songs. Silvera song and music video is a masterpiece.

Live versions aren't good to do first, but some Gojira is better than no Gojira. You should start with Born in Winter, Silvera, and Stranded, then move up to Flying Whales, The Heaviest Matter of the Universe, The Art of Dying, Clone, From the Sky, and "From Mars" into "To Sirus". Gojira is another rabbit hole like Tool and you really can't go wrong with any of their songs.

You pronounced it well. It's supposed to be the japanese version of Godzilla. They're a french band. They have a pretty distinct style, with some very calm songs too. If you wanna try something with a bit more "weight" behind it, you should look at Backbone by Gojira (you'll get what I mean if you try it) :)

Wow, thanks! Welcome in their world! Very sweet first hearing of the band. You can review their whole playlist, there won't be any bad suggestions! Mine would start with some of their oldest stuff, Gojira- Remembrance at Hellfest 2006

Progressive metal, generally speaking. Welcome to the rabbit hole. Art of Dying should be up next from Gojira. Then their concept album From Mars to Sirius, starting with Heaviest Matter in the Universe.

Gojira is a heavy metal riff machine!! Their drummer may just be the best metal drummer in the game right now. They have a bunch of killer songs but I would say that “Flying Whales” or “The Heaviest Matter of the Universe”. Great reaction guys!

Gojira is a french progressive metal band, originally they was godzilla but due to authors rights they moved to Gojira ( Japanese name) I saw them in 2002. I suggest you " l'enfant sauvage" and " flying whales" or at least " global warming".

One of my housemates was a French Muslim guy of Moroccan descent. Gojira was his favourite band.

They do have some groove metal in them, but the thing with Gojira is they're French and that brings something very original and melodic to their metal! By the way, Gojira means Godzilla in "romanized" Japanese...

If you want to see more of the drummer's skills (one of the best in metal for sure) you should check out Heaviest Matter Of The Universe and/or The Art Of Dying Live at Vieilles Charrues Festival 2010

I was on the fence about gojira. Had only heard a few songs at the time and just wasn't going out of my way to get into them. Then they were at Knotfest and I watched them live....and boy was I missing out. Wonderful band.

That guitar playing technique you guys noticed is called finger tapping. It's hard af and takes practice. Gojira has some amazing finger tapping progressions. That 'whhaaaaahhhwww' sound you thought was sick is a slide, Gojira is known for nasty slides.
