‘Replay’s’ the BEST of the best Kpop debut song, so timeless……yet very much underrated
@milindawilson917512 күн бұрын
SHINee's "Replay," which came out May 25, 2008, is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist still today because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. And this is why SHINee are Icons. This song actually came out more than 16 years ago, however, SM Entertainment rebranded itself and started its new KZbin channel in 2011. The company reuploaded most of their older videos at that time. So, all their older MVs and content have a 2011 date. SM is the company that founded the Kpop industry as we know it, way back in 1996, so as one of the icons of second generation, SHINee has literally had a hand in shaping almost everything we think of as a part of Kpop today. This MV was part of SM's special remaster project, where they company would pick one of its classic older MVs each month for a year and remaster it to up the quality of the video and to add subtitles, so -- although SM is known for not having subs on their MVs that came out before 2018 -- we are lucky enough to have English subtitles on this video now. Just so you know, only the video is remastered, but the song is exactly how it was when they debuted. "Replay" isn't just nostalgic, it's legendary. And SHINee are legends. Every new rookie group in the industry has covered "Replay" at least once in their career and it's one of those songs that is pretty much compulsory for everyone to know and learn, even still today. It's one of the most covered songs of all time. SHINee is the group that pretty much all other idols look up to and almost everyone will cite the group or one of the members as the reason why they wanted to become a singer and/or dancer. SHINee are your favorite idol's idol and legends even among legends. And, yes, of course SHINee have great voices. As an SM group, we shouldn't expect any less. You can't be SM artists without having amazing vocal abilities. Even SM's rappers get intense vocal training. That is why SM is considered the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because ALL of its artists have out-of-this-world vocal abilities. Not only are all the members of SHINee amazing singers, but they are the original vocal kings. EXO now may be considered "the vocal kings of Kpop", but SHINee were the ones that showed the industry what it meant to be vocalists. From day one, SHINee's main vocalists, Onew and Jonghyun, have been two of the top vocalists in the entire industry, and SHINee as a group make up one of the best vocal groups of all time. As rookies Jonghyun and Onew were even vocal coaches and mentors to a lot of trainees, including several of the EXO members. SHINee are one of the most beloved and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to create the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's supposed to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. They reinvent the industry with every new release, even still today. Onew* (pronounce Oh-New or On-New with a Korean accent) is the one in the hat, Jonghyun is the one with the headphones, Key is the one in green, Minho is the one playing basketball (he is always the tallest member) and Taemin is the one in yellow. *Onew sounds like the Korean characters for soft and gentle, so Lee JinKi was given the stage name Onew because he has a very calm, soft and gentle personality. He is known for his smile and for always having a bright and positive attitude. When SHINee debuted, Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and a songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14. However, now SHINee are known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists and they're all impressive dancers. All the members can pretty much take over any role in their group. SHINee are some of the most well-respected artists in the industry. Minho is the main rapper, so for his part of the song what you heard was a smooth rap. (His rap was blended in with the harmonies in the song and was often heard in the background throughout the song, etc.) With SHINee's experimental concept, they never do the same thing twice, which even includes Minho's rap. Minho is one of the most diverse rappers in the kpop industry because his rap style will be different for every song. And, because he writes almost all of his rap parts in all his songs starting after their debut, he specifically designs his rap style to fit the style and genre of the song. The Noona (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***, Victoria from F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted, so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is, Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Noona neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words, they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you, I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Noona neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Noona neomu yeppeo is a term that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term, so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Noona neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them, even still today. This song makes all the women swoon. (Even 15/16 years later, when Taemin appeared on The Manager reality show, the female hosts of the show asked him to sing "Replay" to them.) ***SHINee and F(x) are both SM Entertainment groups, they debuted within a year of each other, they both are 5 member groups (Now 4 member groups ;( ) and they have similar music styles and concepts, etc. F(x) is pretty much the female version of SHINee. Fun fact: SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. But as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag they needed in order to be taken seriously as a hip-hop group. So, right before their debut, SM switched up their sound and style to "Replay," and the SHINee members spent a few intense weeks working on their vocal abilities in order to be able to match the skills needed for a vocal heavy song like this. And the rest is history. As you just heard, this is SHINee's signature classic contemporary R&B vocals they are now known for. As you can see by their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was one of the best dancers in Kpop, and you will soon discover with the more that you watch from SHINee and Taemin's solo work, that he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. He has now been nicknamed the Korean Michael Jackson. Along with EXO's Kai, Taemin is considered one of the top two best dancers of all dancers in the the Kpop industry. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. From day one they became recognized as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. When they debuted they were one of the only groups who were singing live while performing this intense choreography. And everyone was so shocked with their abilities. Which is even more impressive because they were one of the youngest groups to debut at the time. The ONLY thing the SHINee members are not good at is lip syncing, therefore, they avoid it at all costs. When you hear SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. So, unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and continue to sound flawless while performing like this for more than 3 hours straight in concert. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. You should also check out SHINee's "Replay" dance practice. It's not an official dance practice video because dance practice videos didn't become a thing until 2010 when SHINee released the very first dance practice video for their song "Lucifer," but it's a real dance practice video from way back to SHINee's debut days. SHINee are the reason why Kpop groups produce dance practice/choreography videos today. SHINee just recently talked about how they spent months as trainees practicing this choreography in order to get it down perfectly. During Taemin's appearance on The Manager, we see all 4 of the SHINee members in the dance studio practicing for their "Hard" comeback in 2023, as well as preparing for their SHINee World Concert VI (SWC6), and they talk about what it was like when they were trainees learning the dance.

AWESOME!!! Can you imagine, these teenagers; Taemin 14 years old, Key and Minho 16, and Jonghyun and Onew 18, blew the industry from day one with this debute song (2008), and are still on top today, called the edge of kpop, incredible performances and vocal kings, concerts on a whole other level ect, ect; and each member with an incredible solo career in their own right. Taemin, the youngest are today called the idols idol, the ACE of kpop, some of the best- if not THE best-dancer in the industry, amazing vocalist too. Also. choreography and live vocals have been SHINee's label ever since, included the most vast dischography in the whole kpop! PLS check up more SHINee!!!

That's why SHINee is so amazing because even without the internet blow up in 2008, they remained active and consistent putting out bops, setting trends in fashion, dance/choreo ever since; and even going through heartbreak losing Jonghyun in 2017, SHINee still came back strong. They were an experimental group at first but because they are so talented (being the first Kpop group to sing live with challenging choreo) all of them have amazing distinct voices. 17+ years in the industry and they're still on 🔥! Taemin as a solo artist 10+ years is kick'n butt right now and is on his first world tour! I can't wait to see him live here in the states! Thanks for reacting to SHINee! I hope you do more of their content and their individual works, especially Taemin who was the first to debut from the group as a solo artist in 2014.

Oh my gosh I love SHINee Replay so much!!!! You guys have no ideal how icon this song is. It's consider one of the best debute in kpop history. I first discovered SHINee Replay in 2019 and instantly fell in love. The members are well known in the kpop industry!!! there's so much you guys need learn about the group lol Did you know they are friends with BTS and EXO. Since SHINee were so young when they debuted the same age as BTS and EXO members. Taemin the one with the yellow jacket and skateboard is the youngest in the group he's was only 14 years old in replay. Taemin a well known idol in kpop known as the Michael of Korea for his insane dancing skills he's also really good friends with EXO member Kai. I suggest you to do more reaction on SHINee they're are such a talented group. Very love around the world such loving,caring and funny human beings.

I love SHINEE. They’re literal icons and idols of idols. This song is considered one of the best, if not, THE best debut of all time in Kpop. I’d have to agree. It’s timeless and so nostalgic, gets stuck in your head. Also, this is a really sad fact but the first guy who sang sadly passed sway December 2017. I wasn’t into Kpop at the time until a year later but it was still really heartbreaking when I found out. He was such an amazing singer, one of my favorites voices ever, he literally sang in the background like throughout the whole song 😭 he was such an amazing performer, gone too soon :( Also, I recommend listening to Lucifer or Ring Ding Dong by SHINEE 😭 such iconic songs fr. I feel like you’ll like the upbeat to the songs ? Hopefully you do ! 🙏🏼

SHINee's fandom is called SHINee World or Shawol for short (pronounced Shy-wall or sha-wall) -- it's a mashup of the words SHINee and World. SHINee World is probably the fandom with the most idol members. I mean they are the group that almost all idols cite as one of their biggest influences and why they first started dreaming of becoming a singer and/or dancer. Name almost any group or artist in the Kpop industry, including senior artists, and you will discover that they are a fan of SHINee and consider the group or one of the members their role model. For a SHINee guide, I recommend "A DEEP DIVE INTO SHINee - Get to Know the Princes of K-Pop // Updated SHINee Guide (2022)." I also recommend checking out "SHINee's Impact in Music is BIGGER Than You Think. {{Deep Dive}} [15th Anniversary Tribute]" video from 2023, to really see just how influential SHINee is.

OMG! One of my favorite songs of all time. Awww memories! when Shinee debuted and Replay was released, my kpop friends and I argued about Taemin being way too young at 14 to be in a group...... but we agreed he is soo talented! Theyve accomplished so much in 16 years! Hahahaha

I'm super happy with this reaction.. shinee are my favorite band💎 Shinee debuted in 2008 with replay (still considered the best debut song today) and are still active today. They are an experimental group from SM. The group is made up of five members: Jonghyun, Key, Taemin, Minho and Onew (each member has a solo career). Replay is an iconic song together with Lucifer, ring ding dong, View, sherlock. Shinee have revolutionized the k-pop industry several times during their career (they have introduced musical genres, fashions and thanks to them dance practices arrived). They have a vast discography that touches all genres. Their discography has influenced many 3-4 and 5th generation groups. They are the history of k-pop

You will react to the song y si fuera ella Korean version. It is sung by the late 🥺 This performance shows what a great talent this world has lost 😔 Jonghyun committed suicide in 2017. He was suffering from depression. Jonghyun wrote many songs about his depression and that he couldn't cope but no one saw it 💔
