No they didn't. They were fed up with the label so they decided to write the most uglyest sounding short song to piss them off. But the label loved the song and it was released as a single. So it was meant to annoy but turned into a hit.

Having an accent doesn't mean you are speaking English incorrectly. You absolutely have an American accent, that doesn't preclude you from speaking properly. It's just sometimes people with accents use regional colloquialisms and ways of talking that aren't proper English - and this includes a lot of English regions, go listen to a Brummy or Scouse accent for instance.

You speak what's called "American Broadcasting English." It's the non-regional, non-accented American way of pronouncing things. In the 1930s-40s, it was popular for actors to speak in what was called the "Middle Atlantic" accent, which was a weird, contrived combination of American and British accents...think of how 1940s movie actors speak, in that overly dramatic way, and that's it. This was an amazing '90s song, and even though I was in my 30s and 40s in that decade, I still loved it!

English comes from England. There are many accents already there. Standard English, known as Received Pronunciation, is the clearest and easiest to understand, in my opinion. (Check out “English With Lucy” KZbinr) Everyone else has an accent that creates blocks in comprehension for anyone of a different accent. I’m Australian, from Sydney, so my accent is a bit different from native English speakers from other Australian cities and states. Your accent is definitely American, not English.

As a former singer in a band, who used to write all the lyrics for the songs we performed, I suspect this is one of those 'jam' songs that spawned from a guitarist saying, "I came up with this cool riff..." and pretty soon the tune was coming together and the singer was just singing gibberish before writing actual lyrics... and in the end the ban thought it sounded cool the way it was... lol. I did that all the time... we would hear a riff, build a cool chorus out of it, and I would just sing random stuff to get the pacing right before I plugged real lyrics in. A couple of times I got so used to singing the gibberish that it felt 'wrong' to now change it. That's what I suspect helped create this song.

I'm sure you'll have many suggestions for other songs from them and Gorillaz. My suggestion is Park Life, which is another banger and has a famous British actor, Phil Daniels, with the lead vocals. I once got brushed aside by lead singer Damon Albarn when they were headlining a gig. I was working at the front of the stage and he came off the stage to go into the crowd. It was awesome! I understand, they also were headliners at the Coachella festival in California back in 2013, along with The Stone Roses. Æ 🙏

Hey BP, for some reason there was a movement in the US to "Simplify" English, that is why you don't use the "u" in so many words, And use the "z" instead of the "s" for words like Realise/Realize There isn't a "Correct" way to speak English as there is no "Accents" to infer pronunciation, but there is a correct way to write English.

@ BTW, I don't buy the excuse they use for misspelling so many words. If Webster really wanted to simplify English, then why did he look at "neighbour" and think "we don't need that 'u' in there, it's confusing". It seems to me that the 'u' is the least of 'neighbour's' problems.
@Tommy-he7dx
@Tommy-he7dx Күн бұрын
@@emdiar6588 If you dive into the history of it, you'll find that Webster was a moderate, there were others that wanted to take the simplification even further, If they got their way there would be no "knife" for example, it would have been a very different dictionary. The one that i don't understand is the Substitution of "S" to "Z", like Realise/Realize, I don't see how that is simplifying

You have a very clear American accent. It makes me smile when some from the US think they don't have an accent. In the UK we have so many regional variations packed into a small area that everyone knows they have an accent. The blandest, most 'standard' English is BBC RP (received pronunciation) which these days is pretty much limited to people born into old money or those who went to the most exclusive and expensive schools. Stephen Fry is an example you might be familiar with. That is what was always considered 'proper English', with everything else being a regional variation.

Man, I absolutely love this song! I don’t know if you’re a car guy at all, but back in 2001, BMW hired several famous directors to make some short films (Called “The Hire”) featuring all of their vehicles. Absolutely zany, but really fun project, and Clive Owen was the driver in all of them. Guy Ritchie directed one of “The Hire” films called “Star”, which featured Madonna getting driven around by Clive Owen, while this song plays in the background. Absolutely worth the watch when you’ve got an extra ten minutes to kill! They’re on KZbin, albeit in low quality.

The lead singer and bass player for Blur went on to form the band Gorillaz. You can hear the influence this song has on the Gorillaz. Try their song Tranz for a cool 80’s throwback sounding song.

Received Pronunciation(Queen's English if there is no slang terms included): would be standardised English, used extensively on the BBC(news/radio) until about 15 years ago. BP, you speak English very well, for an American!

Oh dear I thought I could listen to this again without my border collie going apesh*t! Thought she would have forgotten it, but no. Those woo hoos woke her up and she’s gone crazy barking at me to knock it off. So had to wait for you to pause it to listen to your reaction! Don’t know what it is about this song, she doesn’t react to any other song like this. I like it but have to listen to it through headphones but she still hears it! ❤

I wouldn't worry about what is or isn't "proper" English. English, Scottish, Welsh, American, Australian etc - we all speak the same language and it's the regional accents which can create difficulties in understanding.

"proper" is classist bullshit anyway. If you can get your point across and be understood, that's all that matters. Grammar and proper is for academic situations.
