They were on their way up and the lead singer did some shit that was kinda shitty and slightly racist toward Babymetal and the label buried them for a while. He apologized but they lost a lot of momentum.

They were fairly huge on the scene back in their heydays in the UK dunno about the rest of the world but just about anyone on the metal scene back then knew of skindred they've still got a pretty decent following these days just not as massive as they were back then.

One of the pioneers of that style Skindred & No Doubt have been influenced by is Fishbone. They mix rock, reggae, ska, funk, punk, soul, gospel and metal like no other. They are still putting out albums and touring. Now these songs are very different from each other but are still sonically Fishbone: "Ma and Pa", "Swim", "Everyday Sunshine", and "Party at Ground Zero". Those are a small sample of their diversity in styles. I hope you give them a listen as the music is so good.

Dunno if it's been said before, but,thier name comes from the styles of music they incorporated into thier stuff. Skin, as in skinhead punk, dred as in dreadlocks reggae.

Had the pleasure of seeing skindred live at Nova Rock in Austria June this year, and they killed it! One of my fave performances of the whole festival. One of the few bands my brother (reggae, jazz, motown fan) and me (metal head) can rock out together to. They bring a really diverse crowd together.
