I've seen Slipknot live twice, and this song is an absolute banger. When they are yelling "Say it Again, Say it Again", the crowd chants back "WE WON'T DIE"

Vol.3 spent at least 3 straight months in the CD player in my truck when it came out. I spent most of my free time driving around, so I listened to this album hundreds of times just in 2004 and many times since. It's my favourite Slipknot album by a slim margin over Iowa.

"This is the year where hope fails you" No other way to start the year than listening to slipknots anthem to their fans. Edit: on the topic of slipknots "political nature" they leaned a lot more into that type of stuff for all hope is gone. Stuff like "gematria" or the song "all hope is gone" (used to start and finish the album respectively) really get across that message of how much politics/our divisions hurt us in society.

The album that this song is off was produced by Rick Rubin, but the first two were produced by Ross Robinson. The band have also said that they hated working with Rick, as he was hardly ever at the recording sessions and when he was he had very little input. If I remember correctly they said that mixer Greg Fidelman acted more like a producer on that album than Rick ever did, and ultimately got them through it. And yes, the fans were called 'Maggots' before this. In fact, the band had a very short-lived record label called 'Maggot Corps' around 2000/2001.
@Drivestort2 жыл бұрын
Corey said that, because Rick wasn't really involved in his stuff, mostly just listened to what he had and moved on. But Mick and Jim both said that they loved working with Rick, and he was very hands on with them.

Happy New Year Fellas 🎉🎉 In terms of the tight group that are the “maggots” it could not be any more true. I can honestly say it’s like that with rock/metal also, I’ve been going to festivals and shows now for over 30 years, and yes the crowds have changed over time, but I’ve never felt unsafe or unwanted at any rock or metal show PERIOD. This past year in 2021 I saw SLIPKNOT for the FIRST TIME. I was a fan from Self Titled Album aka Red Jumpsuits, and I was front row, surrounded by fellow maggots and I never felt so at home. Never doubted that everyone there had my back and we all jammed the fuck out hard, Slipknot was insane, will go again ASAP

This is probably one of my favorite slipknot songs both lyrically and musically. I grew up an outcast even among my family and I’m a very stand your ground and fight and do what’s right even when you’re standing alone person. Songs like this really speak to me personally. That’s probably why I really got into black veil brides when I was 17 or 18 and still really enjoy listening to them at 31. Another band that really speaks out on societal injustice and standing your ground is Rise Against I’d recommend checking out Help Is On The Way and Re-education Through Labor

I dont think yall quite understand how much fellow metalheads and maggots even more would come to the aid of a fellow metalhead/maggot without knowing who they are whatsoever. You are instantly family and we dont fuck around much like u could say "jugalos" persona is. We got you as much as you have us. Back then it was almost tabboo to even be listening to their shit that other artist called them all sorts of names. "Shitknot" being one so the following that did was such a cult following that noone would let slipknot open for them because over half the crowd would leave when their set was done. The ride theyve had is like none ive ever heard before. Cant wait till you know the complete story. Its great seeing how hype this got you! Reminds me the first time i heard it. Ok you want a political song by Slipknot check out Gematria( The Killing Name) the lyrics are so true and powerful. Its a musical masterpiece for sure

Would disagree with you guys mentioning phycosocial as the song that made them mainstream. Let's not forget "Surfacing" from the debut and the song "My Plague" from "Iowa", which was also one of the main sound track songs on the movie Resident Evil that year. My opinion their debut album made them mainstream but My Plaque being on a high end movie with a already bad ass soundtrack to the movie made the way for them.

Like they’re the heartbeat that keeps the maggots going… idk who told me that lol, but I’m not too sure the Google explanation is right or not… it’s definitely not as kool lol. But idk. 🤷🏻♂️🤘🏼

Happy new year dudes! Imma just say up front, this is my favorite Slipknot album and I still love and respect the art, but they definitely aren’t outcasts… they started with a “fuck the system and mainstream” an developed into “buy our masks as Hot Topic, our whiskey, and our pop vinyls”. They had a bit of a turning point. No shade or anything, it’s just a drastic change in their motive that’s hard to keep up with when looking back at where it all started.

i think paul really held the soul of the band together and now everyone's replaceable and it's more of a brand than a cohesive unit, ironic how they still have the barcodes on their outfits despite what they're supposed to represent

@@riyintocco I get where you’re coming from but the thing is tho the mainstream basically came to them, their debut album went platinum in a year making it the fastest selling album (or debut) in roadrunners history at that time. And then Iowa their attitude was even more fuck the industry but once again it was huge and they basically became a “brand” more or less. Even with vol 3 being your fav that’s the one where the old fans starting calling them “sellouts” since duality became their biggest hit at the time. I miss the original 9 too but I still feel like they have integrity when it comes to their music.
@riyintocco2 жыл бұрын
@@romaretaylor9953 oh yeah, that’s gonna happen with any amount of fame/attention. I’m not saying they were true to their message during v. 3, I just prefer that album overall. I’m a sucker for dynamic themes. Sure, the mainstream came to them. But they could’ve also said “no”. Not saying what they did was right or wrong, just observing it and choosing to not praise them for being outcasts. They definitely aren’t outcasts now. Maybe back when they started out, but if I can buy a Corey Taylor figurine… I consider that mainstream 😅 Edit: Craig never bought into anything (at least not publicly). That guy knows what’s up 🤙🏻😜
