Roland Orzabal (Guitar and backing vocals on this song/he does lead vocals on other songs)& Curt Smith (short ponytail and lead vocals on this song) performs theyr songs live still today (plus has released an album as recent as 2022),and they still deliever on both shredding guitar riffs and unique vocals. They founded theyr band in 1981. It once actually also featured the members Ian Stanley and Manny Elias, but later on many basically viewed upon them as a "duo",although they always have a full live band with them in concerts. I believe they said once that theyr own inspiration for theyr music was global, they got inspired by too much to mention. Thats why they dont sound so "Brit Pop"-ish as many UK bands usually sound like. They usually got theyr very unique sound. Hollywood, are you thinking of Beyonces song Run The World? (Only she sings Who Run The World? Girls!) I can not remember any song that sounded like the one you were singing,so im thinking you have 2 songs mixed up in 1. 😁

Tears For Fears are a duo from Bath, England. They are Curt Smith Vocals and Bass, and Roland Orzabal Vocals and Guitar. Curt sings lead on this song, but Roland sings lead too, on some songs they both sing lead, their vocals blend really well together. The duo split up in the early 90's after 3 massively successful albums. Curt moved from England to the States where he started writing and performing songs with Charlton Petus. In 2004 Curt and Roland got back together after 10 years apart to record their 4th album, the aptly titled Everybody Loves A Happy Ending. Although they have stayed as a duo, they perform as a 6 piece, the other 4 members are from the US, so you could say they are now a US band. In 2022 they released their 5th album called The Tipping Point, the title track is about the death of Roland's wife in 2017. In my opinion, Tears For Fears are the best band to come out of England since the Beatles.

Tears for Fears are a British pop rock band formed in Bath in 1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, Tears for Fears were associated with the new wave synthesizer bands of the 1980s, and attained international chart success as part of the Second British Invasion.

One of my most favorite bands, literally sice I was a child, because back in 80s I was just a kid. I was always listening to their song, whenever they were aired on radio, even though back then I was too young to learn foreign languages (I'm polish), so I couldn't initially understand the lyrics, but I was all over their music. To date Orzabal's voice is one of the most unique male vocals I know, but Smith, even though mostly being a backing vocal was never really behind Roland. And that's something really uncommon, since normally there's always that one guy in a band, who's clearly identified as the "leading singer", but in case of TFF, they could both easily switch in that role, and it would still end up with song being a hit. It's a commonly known fact, that Oleta Adams rose in prominence after collaboration with TFF, so props for these guys for early recognizing such a great voice, as hers. Personally, "Woman In Chains", where she sings is one of my favorite TFF songs (and the whole "Seeds Of Love" album is a masterpiece). I'd recommend listening to live version of this song. Interestingly, while "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", "Mad World", and "Shout" became one of the most recognizable TFF songs all over the world, in Poland where I'm from, it was exactly "Woman In Chains" that became their major hit, and it even occupied highest positions of music rankings for some time. It's also one of these timeless songs, which were covered countless times across the years. Also, is anybody listening to Nine Inch Nails too? OK, so have you listened to Tears For Fears song "Prisoner" (from "The Hurting" album, 1983)? No? Well, then listen to it, and then try to tell me with a straight face, that you can't hear some influence on Nine Inch Nails music (the band was founded in 1988, just to clarify). It may be a coincidence, but if I didn't know any better, I could swear "Prisoner" is one of NIN songs...

I am a huge fan of TFF! I remember the summer of ‘85, when this song and the album it came from were released. I was 21 going on 22 and that was one of the best summers of my life! I was already a fan of some of the singles they released from their 1st album (“The Hurting”), as we used to dance to Mad World, Change, and Pale Shelter at our favorite clubs. But when SFTBC came out, they were the instant kings of 1985! INXS was also an important band for me that year but TFF were my favs. I was such a New Waver! But, I do want to tell you guys that TFF are more than just a singles band! They have songs that are straight up Progressive and even get into Prog Rock to a certain extent! Please listen to “Year of the Knife” for some of their more epic tunes! Excellent band and one that certainly Carrie’s on the flag that The Beatles handed off, from 1970 onwards!

Here's another song by Tears for Fears, if interested. "Tears For Fears - Mad World (Official Music Video)" (channel: Tears For Fears) --This hauntingly beautiful song is from their debut studio album called "The Hurting" released in 1983. Written by Roland Orizabal and by bassist Curt Smith. This song reached number #3 on the UK singles chart. It was the bands third single release and first chart hit and the B-side was the song "Ideas as Opiates" which was also hugely successful. I really enjoyed rocking with you fellas.
