There’s a great video on KZbin of Dio recording his verse in the studio. He wrecks it and one-takes it, blowing Jack Black’s mind and all the other people in the studio as well. He asks if they want another take and Jack Black is like “no, that was perfect.” And Dio’s like “ man, I was having fun!” Lol. And he says he likes his lyrics. Lol. You can just see Jack Black morph into his 12 year old self shitting his pants lol. It’s pretty heartwarming to watch.

Also, the song you heard on MTV is called “Tribute” the chorus goes “This is not the greatest song in the world... this is just a tribute... couldn’t remember the greatest song in the world, no... this is a tribute... to the greatest song in the world.” The music of the song is clearly implying that the song they’re referring to is Stairway to Heaven

I read an interview where he said that back in the day when Jack Black played Sean Penn's younger brother in the movie "Dead Man Walking" his band Tenacious D played the wrap party and Sean Penn walked up to him after their set and told him that they were really talented musicians and asked him why did they only play comedy songs instead of more serious stuff and he replied that they'd tried doing serious music and felt weird and that it didn't work so they decided to stick to the comedy stuff because that's who they are. I think it's an interesting insight and a valid take because even if the songs are funny and the lyrics and themes are ridiculous, the songs are still well written and they play and sing them like any other serious band. Dude's got pipes and they've been doing this since forever because "Dead Man Walking" is from 1995.

_Kickapoo_ is the origin story of the Tenacious D character Jack Black. It's an homage to a lot of rockers who did break free from small towns and oppressive upbringing. Real life Jack Black is completely coastal Californian, born in Santa Monica, grew up around Hermosa Beach and Culver City, and his family was very supportive of his creativity.

This musical scene is from the Jack Black movie Tenacious D, I suggest you watch it, one of his best movies. I seem to remember a part two call "The Pick of Destiny" or something along those lines. The character's of Kyle Gass and Jack Black always reminded me of the live comedy act "Flight of the Conchords" a must watch. BTW Jack Black other musical movie is called "School of Rock" also a great movie Back in the Early 80's, I was at my local record store and was able to obtain a "5 Finger Discount" of two albums "Moving Pictures" by Rush and "Bat out of Hell" by Meat Loaf. While I did feel guilty about it, those two albums had a huge impression on my musical taste moving forward. Michael Lee Aday aka Meat Loaf, comes from a theoretical background and thus his songs have a theater flavor about it. I hope you two check out the album "Bat out of Hell", one of my favorites of all time. Now for the reason I brought up Meat Loaf. On the "Bat out of Hell 2" album, there a song on there called "Everything Louder than Everything Else". The scene with the Father and Son in the Tenacious D clip you just watched has a similar feel to the song I just mentioned. Listen to it, you two will love it.

"The Pick of Destiny" was directed by Liam Lynch, who has his own YT channel called Lynchland. He's an amazing musician himself, having studied directly under Paul McCartney: some of his music is serious & other is funny, like "The United States of Whatever." I'm personally partial to his song "Defender" as his "band" The Sweet Electric. He's also directed videos for Morrissey, Queens of The Stone Age and even Weird Al, among others, as well as episodes of "The Sarah Silverman Program," and he created the show "Sifl 'N' Olly" for MTV in the '90s, which is friggin' hysterical. Highly recommend you look into his oeuvre.
