The greatest band ever. Seen this band 34 times. They broke up back in 2017. Forever will be missed. Dillinger Escape Plan live reaction would rule.

Mathcore is probably the closest you're going to get to pegging DEP down into a subgenre. And yeah Smokey was right: it's time changes out the wazoo. Also gotta get to Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants, Sunshine the Werewolf, and Milk Lizard

Smokey got it. Mathcore is experimenting with timing and time signature changes. They recorded an EP with Mike Patton on vocals also. First time i heard them was seeing them live opening for Dream Theater and Megadeth and my reaction was "what the hell was that?". And 7/3 doesn't exist Hollywood 😀

Going from Dream Theater to Dillinger must have been quite a culture shock.

The first time I ever saw (and heard of) them was when they opened up Leeds Festival 2002 on the Friday morning. Been obsessed ever since. Saw them many times, but am still so gutted I won't see them ever again!

I remember asking for this song years ago! It came around full circle! 😂 Dillinger are one of the most incendiary, formidable, challenging, confrontational, and utterly brilliant bands to have ever existed. This was the song that got me truly 100% properly in to them! As you can tell by my YT name.... it was inspired by this song :) I saw them first at Reading 2002 which people remember as the infamous 'poo incident', and then at Reading 2004 where they finally got banned from there for years... it was gnarly as fuck haha. Then I saw they were on tour in the UK with Poison The Well and Ephel Duath. They played the London Kentish Town Forum the night Dimebag Darrell sadly passed away, as Greg from TDEP announced it from the green room up top to the outside to the fans. So this show was dedicated to him. Little did I know that even though I ended up mainly going for PTW, I ended up completely converted to TDEP as an avid fan. And I also got accidentally set on fire during this show 🤣no eyebrows for two weeks god damn it! But for real, I have never, ever been to a live show where I honestly felt a true genuine sense of unpredictability and danger as I did at a TDEP show, it was truly the most cathartic, energetic, no holds barred experience you could ever witness as a music fan. Bloody hell I miss them!

THE masterpierce is "Farewell Mona Lisa". It includes all the crazy talents of DEP: math-jazzy-metal + sublime vocals and instruments + their unique creativity. Check that masterpiece guys.

Smokey is correct. Mathcore is time signatures all over the place. I do love the insanity of it all. One Of Us Is The Killer was on the safer side of insanity.

There's a great video of Dillinger Escape Plan doing a cover of Aphex Twins " Come to Daddy " with Mike Patton on vocals. The drumming on it is amazing.

Always liked this band. Greg Puciato the lead singer is part of a super group also called Killer Be Killed with Max Cavalera (Soufly/Sepultura), Troy Sanders (Mastadon). They have changed drummera a few times thou. Might be worth your time to check it out also. Keep up the good work guys!
@paulgreen2401 Жыл бұрын
@ryanm5909, Sadly I couldn't get past Troy Sander's vocals (I only like a handful of Mastodon's tracks). Better Lovers is a new supergroup, featuring Greg Puciato (vocals), and members of Every Time I Die, and Fit For An Autopsy (Haven't heard any of their stuff yet). Their first single, 30 Under 13, is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioaQn6qNqt5-jsU.

"43% Burnt" should be your next move IMO. It's theire emblematic song and sound. And this is eventually where the magic happens live (understand 'total chaos'). You could check their live at the Virgin Megastore back in 2005, even only the 30 first seconds, just to understand what a mess they where live :D

YES!! More Dillinger pleeeeeeease! This song is off the 2nd studio album and One of Us is the Killer is from their 5th album which was 9 years later. It's also a different drummer. They do shift between styles from metal to jazz and can also be quite poppy. Above all, they are totally uncomprimising, original and the best live band I've ever seen.
@IPDS666 Жыл бұрын
their hearts probably beat in different time signatures by this point

It may come as a surprise but they also have some really catchy pop/rock songs too. I love this band so much.

you guys need to check out earlier stuff, 43% Burnt is prob the most common introduction. way more chaotic. they've changed drummers, singers and bassists multiple times, the only steady member being the guitarist\primary writer. they're heavily influenced and trained in jazz, which explains the odd timing etc.

@misadventuresofcrow Жыл бұрын
Just to throw it out there -- one of the major influences of this style of metal is FREE JAZZ (no set chords or time signatures). The Dillinger Escape Plan has been described as "punk jazz" before ;) In some sections you can hear a basic riff idea iterated a ton of different ways -- different bar lengths, different patterns, etc. Good examples of this can be found in the opening riff of "43% Burnt" and the middle section of "Variations on a Cocktail Dress" (the technical riff during the section without vocals).

DEP is a genre all to themselves. Nobody else does what they do. I would recommend the last album they made, 'Dissociation' as the most well rounded record they made. IMO it has the most easily understandable and melodic songs and also the craziest, weirdest, heavy songs of their career. Also the EP 'Irony is a Dead Scene' they did with Mike Patton.
