The Prodigy is Liam Howlett. That was the name he chose for himself when he was a bedroom producer back in the late 1980s. As he added others such as dancer Keith Flint to his live performances The Prodigy transformed into a group. It was only in their later incarnations that vocals were added to tracks which expanded Keith’s role. Liam remained the primary producer however.

Up until Firestarter Keith was one of the dancers in the band, but he got such a vibe for the tune he wanted a go at writing lyrics and the rest was history and pushed him to the forefront of the band, but it's Liam who is the genius behind the music and writes it all. As for the band continuing after Keith's death, they've just released tour dates for this year and new music will follow at some point.
@panasonicyouth19852 жыл бұрын
Even though Keith is now sadly departed from this world, his energy and spirit are what makes the Prodigy, and will always be a part of us the audience, and the energy that we give back! They just announced a UK tour for July to dedicate and honour the memory of Keith, and also to celebrate 25 years since The Fat Of The Land album which Breathe was on. The presale sold out in minutes on all dates of the tour. So its going to be very poignant, emotional, and cathartic to see these guys back on the road, for what is rumoured to be one of their final tours. So if you get a chance to see them in the States, make sure you see them before they call it a day! You won't regret it! Also Liam Howlett is the main guy behind the music, and one of the nicest dudes ever, as are all of them! Keith was the hype man and the wild one of the bunch who was also a respected rave dancer dating back to the late 80s / early 90s, and Maxim is the main MC and additional hype man. Though the other guy in the video is Leeroy who was also an additional dancer and hype man, but he left between the FOTL and Always Outnumbered period. Though it would be solid to get him back for this FOTL anniversary!

The 4 people in this video are all members... Liam is the blonde (the songwriter, producer)...keith is the reverse mohawk ( vocalist and dancer)... maxim is the black guy (mc and vocalist)... Leeroy is The dark haired guy (dancer, live keyboard).... Also the visuals are the correct video for the song but someone turned it into a fan made lyric video and overlayed lyrics on top of the visuals....
@prodigy84bg2 жыл бұрын
Leeroy did occasionally play the keyboards live, but that happened less than 1% of the time. It was very specific as he took over the keyboards when they performed a live track called Rock'n'Roll, during which Liam played some live drums. This was in the 1994-97 era, before they added a live drummer at the end of 1997. I don't want to discredit the overall role of Leeroy, as he's a founding member and I've also met him a few years ago after one of his DJ sets and he was a really cool guy, but his musical input with The Prodigy was minimal. I just want to point out that Liam is the main live keyboardist (99.99% of the time). Leeroy, on the other hand, was possibly the best dancer that I've seen and he has also produced some interesting music after he left The Prodigy.

The Prodigy was originally just Liam Howlett doing rave music in his bedroom. Keith was a raver who said if Liam ever wanted to play live gigs he'd be happy to be a stage dancer and hype man. Maxim (the guy with the cane and body paint) later joined as an MC (initially just as a guest performer). Firestarter was I believe the first time Keith really got involved with the music and definitely with the singing. It is essentially about him being the hype man on stage. Liam's always been the main producer of the music but surely took input from the other members

Liam Howlett, the blond guy, writes everything. The other guys, Keith, Leeroy and Maxim were originally around to bolster the live show with dancing and MC-ing. As they got more and more popular the other guys played more of a roll and became integral to the live shows. They also use a lot of live instruments in their live shows. I would describe them as electronic punk. They have headlined indie festivals and rock festivals alike. I have seen them live 5 or 6 times and they have never disappointed. The first time I saw them, Keith walked on the crowd in a man sized hamster ball! 😁 My favorite songs are No Good(Start the Dance) and Out of Space. All the best, Rich in Sweden.

Liam does not only write the music, but he can also play multiple instruments besides the synthesizer, such as the piano, drums, guitar, and bass guitar. Although he mainly relies on sampled instruments or collaborations, he has played those instruments in some of the studio recordings.

The Prodigy = Liam Howlett (DJ) Keith Flint (Dancer and vocals) Maxim Reality (Vocals, Hype-man, etc) Leroy (Dancer) These men, through their music, helped me deal with some real emotional shit I was going through back in the 90’s. And I still blast their music up to this day!

I don't know you till your Firestarter react video. My heart is jumping when young folks discover my favorite band of the 90's. On midnight of my 18th birthday, i turned up the volume to max, started Firestarter on my little boombox and woke up my parents. "Mum! Dad! I'm 18!!!" The Prodigy will have a special place in my heart. Forever. Greetings from Germany.

Considering the fact you dove into Prodigy, probably number 2 in this genre is Pendulum. You should give a listen to Pendulum - Witchcraft (Live at South West Four, London)

Originally the prodigy consisted of 4 members when they 1st started off... Keith Flint (Dancer/MC/vocals) Liam Howlett (Synthesiser) Maxim (MC/vocals) Leroy Thornhill (Dancer) Then when they started to get a following and playing big gigs they got in a drummer, bass and guitar players, I can't remember all the names but Rob Holliday was the bassist. Think Sharky did vocals also. And it wasn't until the 3rd album "Fat of the land" that you really heard Keith's vocals as the 1st 2 albums was basically just phat as fuck dance tracks. 1 of the best bands to come out of the UK 🇬🇧 🙌
@prodigy84bg2 жыл бұрын
Rob Holliday was the guitarist between 2005 and 2017, but he left for a couple of years around 2007 when he joined Marilyn Manson. He also played the bass on some tracks, as The Prodigy don't have a dedicated bass player. Sharky wasn't a vocalist, but she was the original 5th member of the band and she was a dancer like Keith and Leeroy. Not many people remember/know her, because she was part of the band only for the first half a year after they formed. There is some rare footage from live performances in early 1991 where she appears on stage. She left before they recorded their first official video, but she appears at the end of their video for Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) released in 2005 for the 15th anniversary of the band.

Keith didn’t make the music. The music comes from Liam Howlett. Keith started as just a dancer for live shows
@stunthumb2 жыл бұрын
I remember back in the day, I said to some friends that Liam probably makes a ton of money compared to the other members, and they chewed my head off! - it's like Liam is one of the best, most prolific, well respected composers in music today, except it's overshadowed everytime.... I love Keith of course, but Liam deserves so much more credit than he gets by his fans.
@prodigy84bg2 жыл бұрын
@@stunthumb I cannot confirm this 100%, but from what I've read (and I've read quite a bit), they used to split the money evenly, even if Liam was writing and performing all of the music, while Keith and Leeroy were just dancing on the stage (initially). Liam signed the band's first deal with a label on his own and the other members didn't even feature in that contract with XL Recordings, so if Liam did indeed distribute the money evenly, he deserves mad respect. I think Liam is the most respected member by true fans of the band and he has always been my favourite member ever since I properly got into the band back in the late 90s. As any band, they did have some quarrels over the years, but they always described each other as brothers and the way they dealt with the money might be one of the reasons why they felt that way. On a slightly related note, it's so sad to see some of my other favourite bands, System Of A Down and Slipknot, have internal disputes over money, which resulted in the former not recording a new album since 2005 and the latter kicking a member out of the band. Situations like these make me appreciate The Prodigy and Liam even more.
@stunthumb2 жыл бұрын
@@prodigy84bg Totally. I can imagine it would be worth it to spread it evenly, just for the positive buzz that would give everyone. I guess Liam probably gets a lot of royalties that the others don't, but they may well split the touring funds equally, which would be great. When you hear something like 'Girls' used in an advert, I can only imagine Liam giving a sly wink and money-rubbing gesture. I'm a big fan of SoaD and Slipknot too - SoaD is especially sad, we all want more albums, and we all want these bands to stick together like the brothers they claim they are.
