I've been a DM fan since 1981 as a teenager growing up in France. I met my wife in the US and proposed to her at a DM concert in 1990 at Dodger stadium in Los Angeles during this very song. We're still married 34 years later and still listen to Depeche Mode often.

The live version of Never Let Me Down Again or Personal Jesus, is on KZbin both full of energy just like this classic, their back catalogue is massive with many many classic 80’s & ninety’s choons ! They were at one time classed as the greatest rock band when they toured America ! They have a dvd out called 101 which a film crew & fans follow them on their massive late 80’s tour of the US ! As you can probably tell I’m a massive fan after first hearing them at the start of the 1980’s.

Oh Emma. Fantastic to see this. DM is a big rabbit hole to dig into. i hope you do. Far too many people overlook this amazing band for some reason, but those of us who know, know. I'm 53 and fell in love with them as a teen, and through all my musical development and experience, they're still my alltime favourite band to this day. Cheers.

In the 80s, u either listened to pop music... Madonna Michael jackson, or u listened to alternative/new wave/electronica. The 2 bands that were must? Depeche and The Cure! Tons of other bands in this vein to listen to, but those 2 ruled! And the 2 albums to buy were violator by Depeche and Disentigration by the Cure.

If you ever get a chance to see Depeche Mode live, take it. They put on such a wonderful show, and the fans are so excited to be there. It's a family gathering with dancing, singing, and sometimes crying (the song Home gets me every time, and expresses how I feel about the band and their songs, and what they did for me back when I was struggling mightily to find my place in the world). This band means so much to so many people. Hope to see you react to more (especially Home).

My best Depeche Concert ever was in Stockholm Sweden 1990. The audience sang every song, made the band stop and laugh many times. And half way through Dave asked "You dont seem to need us, you want us to go backstage?"

Depeche Mode is my favourite band, I recommend that you listen to the live performance of "I Feel You" during their exciter tour. I'd also recommend listening to their "Enjoy the Silence" performance from Exciter in Paris

It's deceptively simple. Martin Gore's best songs often employ unorthodox surprises in their chord sequences, (while still keeping the melody perfectly flowing). Like the final chord in the chorus of this song. Without those beautiful little splashes of colour they would indeed have been fairly simple songs. With them it becomes indisputably and inimitably Depeche Mode - moody, exquisite pop songs with a darkness to them; pop songs closer to real life than to a Hollywood fantasy. Add Dave Gahan's warm barytone, one of the great frontmen, and you have an iconic legacy band.

fantastic song + reaction! I've seen Depeche Mode about 5 times in concert since the 1980's :) Fave song by them is "Stripped" and the best performance for it is from the "101" concert film (imho, all the songs in 101 are the best versions of their songs)

Best songs are when Martin & Dave are harmonizing together such as Waiting for the Night.
