🧏‍♂️ rapping in front of Deaf people (ft. Basick, Handspeak Korea) | social experiment
produced by JAYKEEOUT x VWVB™
Hey guys, it's Jay ◡̈v
In this video, I collaborated with Jiyeon Kim a KSL (Korean Sign Language) rapper, and Basick to show that Deaf can also enjoy and participate in 'art'. One thing I learned through making this video is that the 'uppercase D' Deaf is used to describe people who identify as culturally Deaf and are actively engaged with the Deaf community whereas the 'lowercase d' deaf simply refers to the medical condition of having hearing loss. If you are interested, please check out the link below ◡̈

Part of the proceeds from the KZbin channel JAYKEEOUT and creative brand VWVB™ will go towards future philanthropic projects and towards donations for those in need. Your support is always greatly appreciated. Thank you ◡̈

This is nice idea, and show the people how they can enjoy their own way but at the same time, but I kind of felt that, that deaf women got a bit kind of sad or offended that 2 songs were preformed yet she couldn’t understand anything, but when that women came I felt she really felt so happy and so excited., really hope people take good care of people like them.💜

I want to say Thank you for support the deaf community or aware of deaf culture. I would love to learn the Korean Sign language. I only know British, America, and a little bit of Japan sign languages from school or drama tv show. I would love to see a social expert on deaf people when they're customers, employees, or others. If you already have one and that's would be great! Also, I teach some of my hearing friends sign language which is easy for them to communicate more than via paper and pen. I love watching your videos!! Keep it up!! :)

This strikes my curiosity. I know deaf people can enjoy music by feeling the vibrations on a speaker and such, but what if you're watching a live performance like this? So when the KSL rapper came out, it clearly brought joy to them, but what is that joy derived from? Most hearing people would derive joy from things like melody/things largely attached to sound, but in this case, is it purely from the enjoyment of understanding the lyrics? So in that regard, would this feel more like poetry to them rather than music?

That's actually something really interesting that I didn't give much thought to until I saw this! I'd think deaf people aren't really used to the functional behavior of the portion in the brain that digests and configures sound, I'd feel like there'd be more of a stronger reaction associated with the part that controls sight. Maybe it's something in the chemistry of their brains that's been used to observing (via sight) to produce some sort of joy according to specific social cues--could be a different chemical hardwiring. If KSL is a language that they rely on for understanding, then similarly as those who can hear and then experience 2 senses as a result--eliciting chemical reactions from sight and sound, not just sight--KSL may somehow embody this with deaf people in a fascinating way. If you're not deaf I'd imagine that it might probably be hard to fully understand the concept, but one can't ever really know it all. This is really only a theory, not sure if it's true but it would actually be awesome if someone can look this up or research more in to!

it is the same as saying "if only every country had the same language". sign language isn't "one" language, it is a category where there are a looooot of type of sign language just as there are a lot of different languages in the world and a lot of type of english or spanish also, because diversity is life, and actually when I say there are a lot of languages in the world I Includ hearing and sign languages all together! So diversed I love it, it's amazing that way and I hope it continue to evolved and lot more dilect and languages be born or develop in the world! it is just wonderful!

A lot of events in the UK now have captions or a person signing live (not all of them, unfortunately). I feel that it should be a norm. I saw a shakespeare play by a HOH troupe, mixing different techniques (dance and sign language) and it had captions as well. They made a point to use sound for HOH people (using the vibration on the floor) too. The vibe was so different, it was very enjoyable. What struck me is that everyone was very engaged and enthusiastic, and clearly had animated conversations during and after the play but all you could hear the whole time was the soft noise of fabric from people's clothes as they sign.
