It would've been better if she like, berated it or makes fun of him because his mom got it for him, maybe she like, throws it in some mud/steps on it. Then later she reads the letter about how special it was, feels guilty, and maybe tries to make a bear herself to make up for it. Then she gives it to him with an apology. He reveals the original bear is okay/was not ruined, but accepts the bear (maybe he made her one too? Idk)

I'm glad you explained the film's origin at the beginning, or I would have assumed it was some kid's pet project. "Look, I got different voice actors, and even made stuff in the background move sometimes!" Also the Santa-Cloud looks to me more like Baron Munchhausen, and everyone should know better than to believe stories about him! ;D

Fun fact: One of the producer's daughters said in an interview that the weird jumbled talking from the grandmother was a result of a corrupted audio file of the grandma's voice actress and no one caught the error in time.
