Short version: The owner of Wolf Tracer Studios, the animators, was/is a con artist who also happens to be a scientologist. When he got hired to make it, he used his scientologist connections to get his fellow believer Nancy Cartwright onto the project, and subsequently used her name to rope in the other actors.
