Rapsodo provides 3 video playback options: 1) shot vision (down-the-line) from the device, 2) impact vision from the device, and 3) using your mobile device which can be set-up face-on or at any other view you'd like. I found having access two these different views along with data is a great way to improve... And, I know I'd miss this feature if I chose another launch monitor.

I had the rapsodo for a year and can say theres not many better devices out there for actually improving your golf, the cameras really give you the feedback you need to try and change. It’s all good having the numbers on club path etc but a lot of amateurs wouldn’t understand what they mean or what they need to do to change it!

With either launch monitor what is the shortest chip it will measure. Also could put an umbrella over the square launch monitor if your outside working on chipping and pitching to protect it from direct sun light so that it will work without damaging it.

I think with Rapsodo adding a lifetime sub for 400 made it a really good unit for people that have the room and can use it outdoors. If space is an issue the Square is a no brainer as I have one and it is way better then the OG skytrak i came from. I did like the Rapsodo but room was always an issue for me with the previous sub.

Bought square, main reason space. 2nd reason subscription. For my needs, hitting balls over winter and getting feedback it is enough for me. Also just applied update for issues with side spin/spin. Not tested yet.

Yeah, it is so common to hear space constraints I honestly should have mentioned that in the video, I just figured not many people are hitting in a space with less than 7ft behind them or 8ft in front of the ball, but Square can do that. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the review Jay. I have a Garmin R10 paired with Awesome Golf, and am deeply satisfied with its reliability, consistency, and general accuracy. Is the Square LM considered a step up in your opinion? The R10 now connects directly to GSPRO.

More testing to do, but based on everything so far if for indoor use only it seems to have better spin axis for sure as r10 can’t measure it indoors. It still isn’t perfect but they are doing updates so a little early to tell. It offers putting and short chipping along with official GS pro integration, and those features seem to be attracting a lot of people.

Another great video. If you are in touch with square folks can you let them know that there are still some issues that it would be great if they could address with another firmware update. Distances and ballspeed seem lower than pre update. Some club data is now missing (AOA). Also, it doesn’t seem as effective in estimating spin in unmarked balls. Thanks!

You can't compare units with infrared they interfere. I however have shown both quite significantly so you can watch both and compare my data which is pretty consistent.

That's a great question. I think the view it has of the ball behind a putter could make it tough. If the putter blocks the ball enough I can't tell if it would be able to get speed and direction, that is all you need is those 2 metrics. If they could get the right perspective to track even for a 1ft it could be possible I suppose? Thanks for watching!

I also have a question about the lighting requirements. Id like to add this to a home basement sim that Im in the process of building. The light I have downstairs is a very bright LED shop lights. Would that be an issue since it struggles with sunlight?

So super bright lights that would wash out the power of infrared I suppose could cause the issue but it is more of the direct light into the camera lens. The infrared being so close I think can eliminate most concerns of bright lighting, it is the direct light like sun into the camera of reflecting direct off a ball I think that causes the most issues. Jay in your opinion what makes square so much cheaper than other camera units? I have BLP and considering selling to avoid paying 500-750 a year in subscriptions to gs pro. I have to assume 3 cameras is better than 2. However, how is it 1k cheaper than eye mini lite? Do you think the quality and accuracy of the cameras or unit is 1k less

You must be just referring to how can they product a unit for this low of cost? It has to do with hardware quality for sure, that is why it takes marked balls. EYE MINI lite is also very unique, it has no onboard processing requiring it to be hardwired to a PC no ios or android. All of the companies find various ways to cut costs or find accuracy and features. Personally It think MLM2Pro does not have much margin at $699 for Rapsodo, I might be wrong, but I think the play is to make up margin in Subscription costs. In this case, Square found a way to get low cost hardware to read a marked ball if it is placed close enough in a smaller hitting zone etc. There are so many various approaches out there, it is interesting they can't get club speed with the unit as I think Rapsodo easily get's it using Radar. I hope all of that makes sense!

GSPRO connector being free after beta is a BIG unknown in a price comparison with SQUARE. View from behind is cool with MLM2PRO but the additional space requirement makes it more problematic (less ball flight poorer data) chipping and putting being an issue as well. Putting is half of golf a must have for SIM. Square can be used outside at a covered range just not in direct sunlight according to the manual

How does the free GSPro work with the Sqaure, I havent used GSPro myself so I assume you still need a separate subscription just for GSPro but the access from Square is then free? Or does the Sqaure give you total free access and no seperate subscription required?

One HUGE thing Rapsodo has that i hope Square gets is pratice data. It has bag mapping, wedge matrix, dispersion charts, speed training, ect. I think Square with many updates has a very good chance at being great, but right now it seems lacking. Rapsodos latest update is reported as a game changer but its taken a year. If Square can do the same types of things it’ll be a steal at $600. I almost ordered Rap a month ago and saw Square video so now im undecided. Leaning towards Square hoping updates will add much needed features. Right now it appears Square is range or sim golf, nothing else. Oooof, what to do.

Buy both ... that would still be considerably cheaper than buying a f.i. Mevo+ and you have the best of both worlds. Sim play (GS Pro and putting) with Square and all the game improvement options with the MLM2 Pro...

Yeah, I think the basic software definitely has some work to be done, but as all software it usually evolves. I think the big factor is everyone likes that they can connect to GSPRO which has a lot of great practice features

Price aside, I do not think anyone is going to argue that the technical capabilities of UNEEKOR EYE MINI LITE are superior. No marked balls needed, larger hitting area, great accuracy, powerful VIEW software integration, etc. BUT, some might not have the PC to run it, so Square might be the perfect mobile solution for them with a phone or ipad etc. and they can't even run EYE MINI LITE, keep in mind it is a hard wired unit and requires a PC. Once again though like most, it comes down to some personal preference and user use regardless of price :) Hope that makes sense!

Pricing aside, meaning I have a gaming PC and don’t mind paying data subscriptions to use the EML, that’s the one to get, they are both primarily indoor units. I bought the Square though for multiple reasons. I don’t have a gaming PC, will get one soon however. The Square has zero 3rd party fees as of now. The Square has 10 courses to play, with 10 more coming. So I can play them now on an iPad set up to TV or just my iPad Pro. I did my update today and played the Square outside for about an hour today and it did fine. It’s an overcast day today so no sun. I plan to try this again with partial sun or under a cover to see if it works. Since price is a factor though, I was about to buy the BLP with ball and club Data, meaning $500 to $750 annual subscriptions and the used BLP is $2,000. I had the EML in the cart twice, yet bought the Square. So far I really like it, better than the Skytrak+. I figure pricing for the EML and computer is about $2,500. The Square comes in at under $700 and can use the iPad I currently have. The extra $1,800 will go towards other equipment.

I think it is part of their pricing model, if you look at the market many of the manufacturers and software producers have all gone to subscription. It is not for everyone, but I do not think this is going away.

Shoul've gone with mirrorless instead of DSLR jajaj JK, I completely agree with you, the whole subscription model is so anti consumer... for GSpro on rapsodo you need 2 very expensive subscriptions... and don't get me started on the price and availability of RPT balls... I own an MLM2Pro and love it. I used to have a Garmin R10 and the move to the MLM was night and day regarding spin axis accuracy. When my subscription to Rapsodo expires in September next year I'd like to make the change to the Square but it would be tough to do it until they get their spin axis act together. Would you agree that the Rapsodo is significantly superior in that regard?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I would agree that right now I even mentioned this in the video, it seems MLM2PRO would have the advantage on spin axis. But, Square is new and they already released one update on it so will be interesting to see how they narrow it down. Many of the OEM's need the player base testing to identify areas of improvement. I think it is the various swing speeds, clubs, etc. that bring out the factors. Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts!

I own an MLM2 pro, and have decided due to my space constraints I’m better off with an optical system. The question I’m running through right now is.. is it worth it to pay extra for a unit like the sky track plus for its features/accuracy or am I better off getting a square because the feature sets/accuracy would be close to parity with both of those units? Seems like square does a better job on putting and chipping, but sky track does a better job of capturing spin access on the longer clubs.

That is the benefit of a side unit, you can basically use them in a space that is safe to swing. SkyTrak+ is coming in at a much higher price point with a subscription as well, so I think that will probably have to be part of your decision. I will say that you are mentioning a good comparison that Square does putting and short chipping really well where SkyTrak can have the occasional miss even though I have mine working quite well, even the OG. SkyTrak+ at least as of now probably has the edge on longer club precise spin axis measurements based on my testing. Square of course is doing firmware updates for this so does not mean they can't get to the same level, but just trying to be forth coming based on my testing and you can watch that in previous videos.

Short enough, imo. I mean square got down to like 2 yards, nobody is chipping shorter than that. I think I got MLM2Pro down to just longer than that if not close to the same.
